About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. Haul! (Clarins, Chanel, MAC) Plus What We Did Today At Lancôme

    Hi everyone,

today I did a little of everything, went a-hauling, met my sister, hanged out for the whole afternoon with several other beauty bloggers at the Lancôme Teint Miracle media launch event.

Let's get the hauling and rambling out of the way:

Clarins is having a 20% off their regular priced items and  various other GWP promotions going on only at Robinsons from 8 - 12 Sept.  So I took the chance to get a couple of items which I have reviewed --- yes, I bought and paid for these products, because I really do like using them!  :)

First is the Face Lifting serum, (S$98 before discount) which I enjoyed using, and if you are a first time purchase, you are entitled to a 3 pc gift set, which you can see in the pictures below, it consists of body firming cream and neck cream etc .

Next is the Hydra-Luminous flawless powder foundation, (S$55 for the refill before discount)  my sister is actually stocking up on this foundation.  I have also reviewed this foundation, which you can check out here.  I will be featuring  my sister using this product in an entry over the weekend so you can see how it works on someone with a different skin tone and type.

Next, we went to Chanel to check out their  new range of lipglosses, and this is my first Chanel lipgloss!  This is their Rouge Allure Extrait De Gloss (S$44)  I want to finger point at Joey, who got a bunch of these glosses and showed some lovely swatches on her blog, and also Sarah who twittered tempted me when this range of glosses were released.

The packaging of these rouge allure glosses are like their rouge allure lacques, in a solid black glass ( or very tough plastic?) tube.  You can't see the color of the product inside the tube, unlike those they put out for testing.  The applicator of this gloss is also a flat paddle shaped one.

I got the color Genie, because it is such a pretty peachy coral shade, which goes well with my YSL RV Peach Fauborg, Illasmasqua (Sonnet and Obey) and also my NARS lipstick!

Am really impressed with the creaminess and non-stickiness of this gloss!  :)

Here, we have a lone pair of MAC #35 false lashes (S$22 a pair), I have been wanting these for the longest time, and finally got it today.  It is not very curved, but I like the messiness and clusters of lash hairs.  Will wear these lashes and the chanel Genie gloss in my next LOTD.

Next, the sister brought home from work a signed copy of the Kevin 'lao shi' makeup books (another one is not pictured).  I was browsing it today (if only they have printed English subtitles inside!!)   and am totally amazed by the before/ after transformation of the everyday women in the book.  More importantly, there was a lot of emphasis on base products and everything is all featured by brand, product type... ooooo dangerous reading!!!  May cause lotsa lemmings!!!

And today, a few of us spent the most part of our afternoon at the Lancôme media event, which is for the launch of Lancôme Teint Miracle which I have already blogged about and reviewed some time back.   I shall share with you some pictures taken at the event.

Ok, I was being prepped for a little video demo and sharing my thoughts on the product, which was why I went barefaced save for the foundation which is the whole point of the event.  It was a little nerve wrecking having to speak in front of the crew, but hopefully post production would be able to salvage whatever was done 'live'.

The other bloggers who were able to attend the event included Iris (rouge deluxe), Mag (makeup stash), Shirleen (womenlovebeauty) and Kas (shine shimmer sparkle).    Since we were there rather early, we have plenty of time to relax and spent some time chatting with one another before the rest of the guests arrived.

Shirleen's and my blog entries were featured in their presentations, and we also did a little filming sharing our thoughts on Teint Miracle.

Last  but not least, we had loads and loads of fun taking pictures and making goofy faces.  :)

That's all, and thanks for looking~
