Recent Favourite Combinations [Foundation, Makeup Removal & Hair!]

Hi hi!

It's starting to feel so rare that I am able to blog ramble on a weekday. Even during the weekends, I hardly have any time to just sit and attend to blog matters, but when life catches up with you, I guess I just can't get out of it. So for those who have noticed the recent 'absence', I do apologise, and I hope that the usual blog spam will happen soon. I hope. I hope. Because I have so many things to share!

Just want to feature a few products which I have been liking lately, they are a little all over the place and I think that's the way I prefer to present this entry. Hope you enjoy - there's some skincare, makeup and hair!

First off, we have this set of makeup removal and cleansing products. I have been using the Shu Uemura clear brightening gentle cleansing oil. I feel like this compliments my current (still Lancome) skincare rountine. It cleans off my makeup completely, and it is very lightweight. I didn't like the deep pore cleansing oil so much (the pink one btw) but this I really love. I don't think I need to go too much into the efficiency of the Shu Uemura cleansing oils, and I always have one or two of them in my stash. If you are looking for something that really takes off the heavy duty makeup after a long day, this is really a great performer.

As you know I usually keep 2 - 3 facial cleansers in my bathroom. While I love my creamy foamy cleansers, I also like to try out 'alternative' cleansing products. Namely cleansing balms - they are very big in the UK - and I like the idea of a cleansing balm. It is supposed to be very calming, cleansing and when used with a muslin cloth, even exfoliating. I have heard great raves about the Emma Hardie amazing face cleansing balm. I ordered mine from feelunique and here's the product information -

I don't use it with a muslin cloth though -- but I have just ordered some from feelunique in a separate order, and I shall try it out soon. I really love this - it is so soothing, and so luxe and smells really awesome. Even I just massage this into my skin, it just leaves my skin feeling so soft, and clean after rinsing. It looks a little messy from the picture below, there's this layer of oil (Moringa I think) and smells really relaxing.
This is always sold out at feelunique, so grab it while you can!

And another item which I recently discovered is the Ettusais peeling milk - this is a gentle exfoliator that doesn't have any scrubby beads. I have this for quite some time. When I got to learn about its properties at a Ettusais event a couple of weeks ago, I came home, and quickly took it out to try.
Basically it is a milky liquid that you rub onto dry skin, and it will rub off the dead skin cells. I particularly like to rub it around my nose area, that seems to be the most 'tough' area, and after I rinse my face, the skin feels super smooth. I usually follow up with a extra nourishing mask or face cream, cos that's when the skin is in the best condition to absorb products. Highly recommend this product if you are looking for a different sort of skin exfoliator.

Next, a couple of hair products. I have other hair products to feature -but I will mention those in a products I have used up entry. But here, we have a new shampoo which I have been using and loving for the past couple of ... days. haha. I saw this earlier in the week while I was at Guardian. It is Ancient Secrets Moroccan Argan shampoo. And it is only about $11 or $13 - very affordable. So far, I love everything about this shampoo. It leaves my hair super soft, not weighed down at all and even more shiny. I normally don't use any conditioner after shampoo cos I like the squeaky clean hair feeling after shampoo. This leaves my hair clean without being 'too squeaky' if you know what I mean.

And one some days, when I feel like I need to make my hair look a little more sleek, or when I want my hair ends to be more tame (esp after a big DIY blow dry), I will rub a tiny drop of the TONI&GUY Shine Gloss Serum just at the ends of my hair. It is a great lightweight hair gloss serum, that makes your hair super shiny, and also tame flyaways.

These are some cheek products which I am rotating this week. Finally, I am able to tear myself away from the URBAN DECAY NAKED FLUSHED palette. I decided to break out the Guerlain 4 seasons terracotta bronzer in 00 Nude - it is the perfect bronzer for my light complexion. It gives the perfect amount of warmth to my skin without being visible. The powder is so smooth, and it blends into the skin just amazingly. I would compare this to my DiorSkin Nude Tan bronzers - very natural, and very very fine quality. They are very similar with their quadrants of pale bronzing shades. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Next, is a scary bright red blush - I just have to dab ever so slightly into this blush - MAC Devil powder blush - it is a pro only shade though. It makes my face looks healthy, and I just buff it into oblivion onto my cheeks, so I end up with a very naturally warm flushed cheeks - you can't even tell that I am wearing a RED blush.

Note that I have just shown below very very light swatch - this is a really pigmented blush, and I always proceed with caution. Hehe.

And next, I am loving this pair of base products.

I have been trying out and loving the MAQUiLLAGE Perfect BB Base. It is very smooth, and lightweight. I love how it evens out my skintone. I will give this a full review in a separate entry, so you can see how it applies on me.

And finally, I recently ordered the Revlon Nearly Naked foundation (at drugstore.com via spree). I just eyeballed the shade online...and it turned out to be a just perfect match for me. I could probably go half a shade lighter, but it's nothing some setting powder can't fix.
Like the name suggests, it feels like nothing on my skin, and yet it makes my skin look very smooth after I applied it over the base. And it lasted on me very well throughout the hot and humid days. I would even compare this to NARS Sheer Glow in terms of the consistency and finish. Highly recommend this foundation. And it is so affordable!

Just want to rant about something I came across today. I received an email from a certain company, asking me where's my blog entry for xxx product, because she didn't see it on my blog....well, that's because I haven't posted it yet. (DUH)
Was it intentional? No. I simply have no time to be switching products all the time. When I am busy, I always just fall back on whatever is on my table. I don't recall signing up for deadlines when they want to send this xxx product to me. I will mention it when I am ready to feature it, after having used it. I have never subjected myself to some deadline crunching blogging/ reviews and I have a million of other blog entry ideas of my own without having to accept "FREE" products to sustain my blog. For some reason, I got very peeved by this kindly email reminder. I am in a good mind to send back this xxx product, and tell the person that when I am ready to try it out, I would jolly well fork out my own $18.90 to buy it, and use it if I want to.

Well, that's just a temporary mood damper..I would just continue doing whatever I do, and ramble on whatever comes to my mind.

US Swap Goodies [Maybelline & Revlon]

A couple of weeks back, a very lovely reader, Kay, offered to do a swap with me, and this is what happened. I just want to thank her again, very very much, super fast and efficient. Her package is currently on its way to her right now. It's an unusual sort of swap, because we both asked for very specifc items. I was trying to be very very good... and so....obviously not everything is mine, I got 2 more girls to take part in this swap with me, so we can help one another get everything that was needed.

She also very very kindly included two brand new Rock & Republic eyeshadows in the package, I have never tried R&R before, so I am really quite excited to check these out!

Many Revlon goodies, some of the Lip Butter - we just happened to choose shades which are not available here in Sg. New Revlon eyeshadow quads. And also the LATEST Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadows!

It is FEBUARY already! *disbelief*

I thought I will give an update on some recent stuff which I have been loving lately. Not really full reviews, but a few quick points about each item. Some are old products, and some are recent additions.

Collection2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer 01 FAIR

I can see why this product is so highly raved in the UK beauty community. Really deserves the hype! I have been testing this under my eyes lately, and it is quite amazing (I mean to just brighten up the undereye area, since the shade isn't really a undereye corrector shade).

Brightening Effect
Lasting throughout the day
No creasing even though used under the eyes
Gives awesome coverage, thick but easy to blend out by dabbing over my skin

Illamasqua Skinbase SHADE 04

A little goes a long way, flawless finish
Need to buff buff buff!
Smells nice, lasts the whole day
A little shiny though I can put up with it, and just blot my oily T zone.

The following are items which I keep grabbing for when I do my makeup everyday.

Loose Powder - CHANEL Ultra Fine Translucent Loose Powder

This loose powder is different from my usual CHANEL translucent loose powder (which comes in different shades) it is like the HD version of a loose powder, ultra fine, much like the MUFE HD powder. I was just trying to rotate my loose powders, and decided to use it more often.

Highlighter - Cle de Peau Vintage Palette III

I like to dust this powder all over my face. It smells awesome, and gives a faint nice glow.

Lipglosses

Chanel Extrait de Gloss in Genie and Glossimer 287 I think the name is Morning Aurora? I layer them together, and the color is just a very natural slightly orangey pinky shade. It is creamy but not sticky.

Revlon Lipbutter Creamsicle

Great pale shade which is still wearable.

Cheeks

Soap & Glory blush, Dior awakening blush

Perfume

Jo Malone Nutmeg & Ginger - Clean, not too spicy,

Nail Polish

SpaRitual Nail Polish remover, lint free cotton pads

Nails Inc topcoat and basecoat

Makeup Remover: I purchased 2 bottles of the Hada Labo Hydrating Makeup Remover at Watsons when they had a promo, heard great reviews about it. I think it is great for removing my daily makeup of Foundation, Blush, and any little eyeshadow etc. If I have full face makeup, I would still reach for my Shu Uemura or Fancl oil cleansers.

LOTD: WnW Comfort Zone Palette Look One [Greens]

I was playing around with the WetNWild Comfort Zone palette and came up with this look. I used the following colors:

My initial thoughts on the eyeshadows:

And yes, I am using my Real Techniques eyeshadow brushes! They are really soft, and great for blending. I actually only used one brush "base shadow brush" throughout this eye look.

Very pigmented, as the pictures show.
Slight fall out especially during blending, when I use a fluffy brush
Best to apply over a base [I used NARS Primer] for the eyeshadows to adhere to
All colors are super shimmer, which look great in real life. I might balance the shimmery finish with a matte/ satin highlight if I wear this look out. Or use the browbone color as a sweep of color all over my lids. Everything shimmery isn't my style.
These shadows remind me of my sleek palettes!

August 2010 Faves (Plus What We Did One Hot Afternoon)

Hi hi,

I've put together a bunch of stuff which I have been using a lot (relatively) this month. In case you aren't aware, I don't wear a lot of colors during the week (lack of time to slap on the eyeshadows etc)... and so my weekday routine mainly consists of foundation, brows, cheeks color and the ocassional sweep of eyeshadow all over the lids. 90% of the time, lipstick is not even part of the routine.

But I have been using some other stuff quite consistently, so they deserve some mention in this entry.

Here goes:

1. Lipsticks: Revlon Nude Attitude, MAC Blooming Lovely, OCC Lip Tar Hush.

The MAC lipstick can be a rather unwearable shade of purple on me for daily use, but I have accidentally found a way to work it, and that is to tone down the purple hue with Hush. Both color blend into a pale lilac color that is not too cool toned, so they have found their way into my bag almost all the time this month. And on the days I worn Blooming Lovely on its own at work, I received compliments on what a pretty and unique color it is. As for Nude Attitude, it is just a 'something' which I feel so easy to slap ohttp://retailtherapy.onsugar.com/10749373/editn regardless of what look I am doing, it is just a neutral warm nudey color... nothing very striking, and so that makes it easy for me to wear.

2. LUSH BIG Shampoo. You are looking at an empty tub of this shampoo. I prolly only use this once a week but my younger sis loves it so much too, so between the two of us, we finished this shampoo (which I first bought in June 2010). I am glad I bought a back-up, and another back-up is coming my way soon courtesy of my gf who went HK for work recently. It smells amazzzzzing, and I like the very 'stripping' clean effect of this shampoo. I have another hair product from Khiels which I want to feature too, but I have thrown away the empty bottle.... and I will feature it prolly in next month's fave entry. (I am kind of obsessed with that product though, so will definitely buy it again!)

3. NARS Laguna Bronzer. I like this all over again when I was trying out all that nudey/ contoured looks which I have been playing around with this month. It gives, for me at least, a subtle bronzed look without looking like I have applied a bronzer--- if that makes any sense. I usually use my MAC138 brush to apply this product.

4. Max Factor Lasting Performance Foundation. I am using this like my Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation --- meaning I have to mix it with a little of my Chanel Pro Lumiere to 'darken' the color a little. If you can get your hands on this foundation, it is really worth looking into -- a cheaper alternative to the EL Double Wear. They provide almost the same quality in terms of coverage, texture and lasting powder. On the days I wore this foundation, my face looked fresh the entire day without touching up.

5. Chifure Makeup Base Milk. I will be using up this base before I venture into other primers out there (though I am seriously tempted to re-purchase my RMK creamy base, I am itching to try other brands too). It blends and dries to a very soft and powdery surface before I wear my foundation. I also find it does help in keeeping my face less oily for a few hours.

6. Chanel's Paradoxal Nail Polish. It is an interesting color, and though I wasn't very very very crazy about this color in the first place, I have received compliments whenever I wear this color, so it deserves a mention in my faves entry. Furthermore, I have applied this color more than once this month, which speaks a lot about how much I like it (subconsciously I guess). And I have also applied this color on everyone I have come across (my 'regular' people who come to me for 'express' manicures... you know who you are.. haha).

7. EA Eight HourCream. I confess that I sneaked this into my bag from my sister's stash. It wouldn't be too much of an exaggeration if I told you she has a CARTON of this hand cream stashed somewhere. There are a few tubes of this product (already opened) in my room, the big ones to the smaller tubes. And this is one cream that smells so refreshing, you just feel like inhaling the scent to feel fresh again. And the cream is not oily nor sticky and the effect really last on your skin. So if there is anything that will convert me into a regular hand cream user, this product would be it.

And lastly!!

8. HM Grey Tee & Ray Ban Aviators. I wear this grey tee maybe 80% of the time I go out, go to sleep, lounge about at home, go for driving classes etc etc etc etc... I own about 5 or 6 of this same exact tee in my collection, so there are always clean ones to rotate. And our crazy weather here really call for a pair of hardcore shades, and I have been loving my Ray Ban aviators. These aren't my first pair of RB aviators, but I like the very slim gold frame, it is so light and clean (doesn't clash with any outfit), and fits into my bag very easily (unlike my oversized shades that come in bulky cases). And the color of the lenses have a pink tinge to them, and also they have a subtle mirrored surface, so they really cover my eyes (great for no makeup days) when under the bright sunlight.

On Wed, Kas and I went Chanel hunting, and we trekked our way in the HOT HOT sun to Marina Bay Sands...both of us felt kinda like tourists making our way to the area, stopping for yummy milk tea at Eskimo, keeping a lookout for signages and all that, and it was a really super super hot afternoon, yet we cam-ed our way to MBS, hoping that the Chanel store is open, hoping that we can check out the Khaki nail polish collection. I gave a little woot of discovery when I spotted the Chanel wording in the distance (or was that just a mirage after walking in that scorching heat?) ... and when we approached, excitement gave way to anti-climax because it won't be open til THIS SUNDAY. And this happened after the MAs told us the store is opening 1 Sept... oh well well. We shall see how this whole thing turns out... cos I am really keen on getting the nail polish, and apparently, there is long reservation/ waiting list going on. FYI, this collection is also only exclusive to the flagship opening of the Chanel Store at MBS.

Despite the disappointment, I guess it was still kinda fun to check out MBS briefly -- we lost interest in the place -- sleek and chi chi as it is, and promptly hopped into the cab to town for the Tangs sale as soon as it was confirmed we were no where near getting any Chanel that day.

Yup, shopping at Tangs was a lot more productive (and therefore bad for the purse) but we shall get to that in a while. I have so much to sort through, but it is not as though I bought a ton of stuff...kind of irks me that things just aren't in place and I don't know why.

LOTD: Simple Smokey Eyes & Glowing Skin with NARS Albatross

I tweeted this LOTD picture in the morning, just before I left the house. Hence the rather rough quality of the picture.

Face - SANA Pore Putty Base, NARS Sheer Glow (Deauville), MUFE Super Matte Loose Powder (Light Pink)

Cheeks - Illamasqua Tremble, NARS Albatross to highlight

Lips - Thin Layer of Revlon Nude Attitude (hence can still see through my own lip color)

Eyes - NARS Smudgeproof eyeshadow primer, NARS Cleo, NARS Abyssinia to highlight

* I used the Maybelline gel liner as a base, it is old and a little dried up but good enough for a dark base, I won't use it as a liner anymore. So that's one way not to waste your dried cream liners.

Lashes, Liner and Lenses - Cosmos No42, Loreal Superliner, Geo Lenses Nudey Grey

I sometimes like to do these subtle smokey eyes to make my eyes look bigger, and a little different from my usual neutral browns and taupes.

So after hearing about the new Revlon collection, and how the colors are super pretty, I was very excited to see the new collection out today while I was at John Little. I wanted to check out the nail colors and lip glosses. I was about to grab two or three lipglosses today when I stopped myself, cos they aren't that 'drugstore' rates at $18.90 a piece, plus I am not a big gloss wearer. But I have heard great reviews about their color and consistency. And they didn't have the lilac shade which everybody is raving about. I saw Peach Petals though, and it is really nice and pretty.

Finally, I grabbed the nail polishes instead. While they are all very on trend this season for the nail colors, I must say they are all colors which I already have in my crazy stash. There was a pretty pale lilac, pale pink, hot pink, teal shade much like Catch me in the Net... and I bought Minted and Grey Suede which I have already seen on Yummy Mummy's blog. The nail polish retails for $11.90 each.

Some quick swatches ---- I applied them rather hastily, but otherwise they aren't too streaky, and 2 or 3 coats will give you true color.

And I know many of you would be wondering how these colors compare to others in the market already, so I shall showcase some similar shades:

Chanel Novelle Vague, MAC Peppermint Patti, Essie Mint Candy Apple, Essie Turquoise & Caicos, OPI Garguatan Green Grape

And closest dupe is Essie Mint Candy Apple --- though it is 'whiter' than Minted.

And Grey Suede is a light greige color Edit: no, it is a NUDE color, with subtle gold shimmer, barely noticeable, and the first color that comes to my mind is OPI Tickle My Franc-y. I forgot to include Essie's Playa de Platinum in this following picture, and so you get to see only Chinchilly.

Tickle my Franc-y is more nude and flesh toned, without the subtle shimmer that comes with Grey Suede.

That's........ not all!!!

Haul! Illamasqua, Sephora by OPI & US Drugstore

Hi hi,

This entry is devoted to some US makeup items which Iris (of Rouge Deluxe) helped me got while she was in the US last week. I also met Kas today to do a little exchange of some more MU items etc etc this afternoon... so all in all, lotsa of math, and oooohing and aahhhing at the colors and stuff we got. I must thank both girls, in particular, Iris for helping to get these stuff!!

First up, more Illamasqua blushes. I guess now you know why I didn't go all nuts with the NARS hauling in HK... that's cos at the back of my mind, I was thinking of these babies coming on the way.

Illamasqua lipstick in Obey. If I have to point a finger at this haul, it's got to be Dara (belle du jour nyc -- check out her May faves video) , and yup.... so yup, I am suckered as usual.

Next, are some Sephora for OPI nail polish. These retail for US$9 each. I got 2 colors from their summer collection, which are Havana Dreams and Rumba Romance. The other two colors I got most likely cos the names are irrestible to pass up. It's all about Me is a bright deep pink, while Shopping Frenzy is the same pink with a magenta sheen.

Next, we have the L'oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base. Again this is raved about in Dara's May Faves video. The texture is rather creamy and nice, and smooth. Want to try this out sometime soon. :)

And I got a back up of Covergirl Oil Control Pressed Powder. My sisters like to use this too, and I am almost hitting pan on the first one I have... and so, yup, this is a very legit purchase.

And lastly, a much talked about item in the beauty community, is Revlon's Nude Attitude (matte). Love this color!! Not concealer washed out nude... but really my lips but better color.

And random, haha hhaha... after one week, my tatt is still intact..... either the tatt is very 'long-lasting' or I never wash myself properly in the shower! LOL. Go figure.

LOTD feat. NYX Palette & Recent YT people I like to watch

Hi!

Another LOTD... nothing new in terms of technique and colour, but I want to show a look using the NYX palettes.

On my face - RMK creamy base + MUFE mat velvet + La Mer Power, MAC Studio Sculpt & Shape, MAC Conjure Up, MAC Studio Sculpt concealer

Lips: YSL RV No7, and later on I used Revlon Pink Pout to touch up

Eyes: NYX Catwalk Palette (and no, I didn't use a base for the eyeshadows)

*The next pic, though blurred, I am kind of proud of the 'sculpt' contoured line going on. Yeah!! Finally learned how to do my contouring? Haha.

The next few pictures are taken after I got home. I didn't touch up at all (except lipstick) and I blotted my face once while I was out.

And some You Tube people I recently subscribed to:

pixi2woo you might recall Tanya, who modelled several times in pixiwoo's tutorials. She is also a MUA and she recently started doing tutorials. She does more of the younger celebrities inspired looks (like Hilary Duff, Mary Kate Olsen etc etc) which the pixiwoo sisters don't normally do. It is amazing how she fills in her brows -- watch her videos, you will know what I mean.

amarixe very sweet and pretty girl. Easy to listen to and watch, though her OC accent can be a little off putting after too long.

Hi!

It has been raining non stop the whole day, but I have to head out to my cousin's house this evening. Will be popping by town to grab a couple of gifts with my brother and sister, and this is what I am going to wear. And I also want to check out Watson's promotions, as you might have read from Diana's paparazzi entry. :)

Thought my golden toe nails match the slippers?! Haha. It is raining, and I am reluctant to wear slippers out, it just seems super slimy and gross. I will most likely change into a pair of black flats instead.
