About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

No ads, no paid links etc please.  I am in charge of all content and pictures here.

I am not a makeup artist, nor do I have any professional training in makeup.

NARS Spring 2013 Palettes [Photos & Swatches]

    Now Available at Tangs Orchard

For Spring 2013, NARS debuts a new limited edition palette,
based on top-selling, universally flattering, must-have shades of the season.
Steal the scene with a flash of aubergine or shift into neutral territory
with this season's shimmery taupes. Elevate any look to an advanced level of artistry
with four evocative eyeshadows (Night Star, Gstaad, Kuala Lumpur & Coconut Grove)
and NARS iconic Orgasm Blush and Laguna Bronzer for cheeks

    S$86

a hasty swatch of the shades in the Happening palette - I already own all the shades in this palette except for Gstaad,
so I don't think I will be purchasing it.  This is a great NARS starter kit for those who wants to own their iconic shades.  Very wearable, and great value!

I don't have swatches of Foreplay, but they contain four permanent shades - again, great value.
The size of this pan is like a bronzer size - IF I remember correctly.

    Gold Member (the gold one)
    Desire (hot pink, matte)
    Armour (dark pink)
    Orgasm (peachy pink)

Inspired by NARS’ best-selling blush, Foreplay is Orgasm “deconstructed”.
This includes the original Orgasm blush (bottom right), together with the individual elements
of the original–a matte fuchsia pink, a matte coral, and the shimmery gold highlighter.
Layer the iconic original with shimmery gold highlighter,
or intensify either the peach or pink by adding the matte tones
    S$68

Travel Exclusives: Bobbi Brown Palettes & Clinique Chubby Sticks [Photos & Swatches]

Bobbi Brown has introduced several new travel retail exclusive sets, within make-up and skin care.

I have previously mentioned the Hydrating Set, which contains a 50ml Hydrating Face Cream and a 15ml Hydrating Eye Creme. Both are enriched with mineral water and algae extract and are said to leave skin looking refreshed and renewed. Started using the eye cream a couple of days ago and I am liking it so far.  If you are a regular user of Bobbi Brown skincare, this is definitely one great set to pick up the next time you take off for your holiday.

Three colour palettes – two for eyes and one for lips – are also rolling out worldwide. The Day to Night Shadow Palette features both matte and shimmering shadows, offering a versatile selection of shades suitable for either day or night. Greys and mauves predominate. The set also contains an eyeliner and a double-ended brush.

As its name suggests, the Nude on Nude Eye Palette contains four neutral shades, plus a double-ended brush. This is complemented by the Nude Pink Lip Palette, which features a collection of lipsticks and lip glosses to flatter all skin tones. They can be worn alone or mixed and layered for a customised look.

Following the successful launch of CLINIQUE CHUBBY STICK MOISTURIZING LIP COLOUR BALM, this year Clinique are launching a TRAVEL EXCLUSIVE CHUBBY STICK TRIO, containing three full size chubby sticks in these popular shades:

    • Mega Melon

    • Woppin’ Watermelon

    • Super Strawberry

CHUBBY STICK MOISTURIZING LIP COLOUR BALM’S highly moisturising formula uses a special blend of decadent butters, oils and antioxidants to help protect and pamper lips with immediate and lasting moisturisation. Infused with Shea Butter, Mango Seed Butter and Jojoba Seed Oil, CHUBBY STICK MOISTURIZING LIP COLOUR BALM delivers a surge of moisture in a sleek stick leaving lips soft, supple and soothed.

Packaged in a playful, shade-matched crayon-esque carrier, the balm-like formula provides stay-true colour and buildable coverage. To apply, simply twist the base to expose more balm and twist back down before replacing the cap. Available in eight mouthwatering shades, ranging from nudes to pretty pinks and deep purples, it’s the perfect addition for any occasion. Don’t leave home without one of these pout pleasers in your purse.

I will not be swatching the Chubby Sticks, but I already own Whoppin Watermelon, and you might recall my swatches and LOTDs where I am wearing it.  The Chubby Sticks have a great moisturising formula and gives a juicy sheer touch of color on your lips.  It is great for travel, and this set is LE, so do grab it if you have been wanting to try them out!

Meanwhile, enjoy the photos and swatches, and I will be featuring them in future LOTDs soon!

    Look what I FOUND?

I thought of naming this entry FOUND!! (insert whatever is found), but that wouldn't be very original, would it?  Haha....

But I was at SASA (Wisma Atria) just now, and I came across this US brand The Balm, and it is abit like Urban Decay/ Two Faced -- you know, cute products, names, packagin etc... And if I am not wrong, Linn has their Shadow Lady eyeshadow palette?  MakeupbytiffanyD also made a couple of tutorials using that palette. I didn't check out prices though---too focused on taking sneaky pics with my phone.  The whole set up looks very new, and well stocked so I think it is a recent addition.  Have you checked it out yet??

The little 'palettes' are mainly blushers, or eyeshadow/blusher combo.

Yup.  So that's a quick update! Hope you this helpful.

    My Customised MAC Palettes

    Hi!

Read adorebeauty and facesbysarah "breaking" news on the new MAC customised palettes...which I felt is a marketing gimmick to get people to spend a lot of money at one time. If you go to the local MAC store at Taka, there is no stopping you from picking a palette (S$25?) and picking out 15 eyeshadow in pan forms (S$21 each), and that way you are also customising your own palette, right?  So... it is just a 'fresh' way of telling people to spend a bomb.  :p

Regardless, and just for fun, I am doing this, and I invite/ tag everyone to partake in this lemming exercise!! Haha.

The rules? Pick any palette you wish to customise, or do all three like I have done. But you can't choose colors which you already own in your collection (*But I cheated and picked Carbon e/s) Personally, I would rather take my time to choose the colors rather than get them all at one time. But IF I am a professional MUA, then it makes sense to get everything...

    First, we have:

and if I could only choose FOUR:

And why not get SIX new blushers?

Yup!  So, share what your customised palettes would look like!!

    How I decorate my palettes

Ok this is completely frivolous of course.

I bought the stickers from a Japanese household stuff store, you know, where everything goes for $2 each. (Daiso)

I really like the stickers above.  They are sort of poofy, and check out the huge heart shaped ruby thingy!  Totally cute.  And the whole set costs only $2!!!

As for those below, I bought them from another shop which sells party supplies, but the quality isn't so good, and they are super tiny!! @By the way are make up related, hence i just got them.  Compared to the wicked ones above, they look really lame now.
