About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

    OCC Lip Tars Batch #4 [ARRIVED] & Extra Lip Tars Up for Sale

    Hi hi,

    so the mega order came last night, and I was quite excited to check them out and get them ready for mailing out today.  Also got the sister to help me with checking that everything is correct...there might be a little mix up here and there, but everyone got the colors they ordered with the exception of a couple who got their ALT colors (phew).

    A few more people have yet to give me your mailing address, I have emailed you earlier, so please reply asap!

    As I was packing the items, and snapping pictures, I think I like Trollop more and more, and kinda kicking myself for not ordering it.  Among this whole batch of lip tars, I only got Trick for myself.   duh, right?  for all that logistics and organisation... heheh. But I think I already have all the colors that I want and would use.. and so didn't think I would like Trollop too.

    Here is one pathetic swatch of the only one lip tar I got:

    Trick is a browner version of Hush ( is which more pinky) and it goes on lighter on your lips, even though it looks brownish in on my lips. It is a beigy nude, well, or tanned beige.  I think very it's good, because you definitely get nude lips that are not concealer pale nude beige. Put it this way, if you are a fan of nude lips, you need to have Trick ---- and I think it suits a range of skintones too.

    Here you can see the different undertones of both hush and trick.  Again, I would to highlight that trick looks a lot darker in the pic than in IRL.

    And I decided to snap pics of all the different colors that were ordered for our viewing pleasure!  And ironically enough, I forgot to take a pic of Trick.  Hahaha.

    Hi everyone, I have decided to open this spree right now, due to the overwhelming response from the 'preview' entry which I posted a couple of weeks back.

    I saw Enkore's video on the swatches of the 6 NEW FALL COLORS, and he mentioned that the colors will be out 20 AUG 2010.  This gives  me some time to collate all the orders and payment, make arrangements for shipping etc etc, so I can place orders as soon as possible when the new colors launch.  So if you want the new colors, check out his video for the swatches and names, or also Temptalia's entry on the same collection, because the new colors will not be on the website til 20 Aug 2010.

        Haul! OCC Lip Tars, comparisons, swatches, mixes!!! [Batch #1 Arrived]

        Yay!

        So glad that my very first time as spree organiser went smoothly.  The package was shipped out of NY on 1 July and today is 8 July, so it took about ten days from start to receipt of the package.  And meanwhile, the interest for the OCC Lip Tars have been mounting, and I feel confident enough to open possibly two more batches!  The link and info will be at the end of this entry.

        I  bought 3 lip tars for myself, while the rest will be on their way to their respective owners!

        Shall let the pictures do the talking!

        And I know you want to see actual lip swatches, so here goes:

        *** I swatched everything with my finger.  No  brush, no lip liner, so please pardon any wonky lines. ***

        Hush -- Perfect nude, and to lighten the brighter colors.  I don't find it soooo nude til I look pale and deadly. If you are into nude lippies, you NEED this.  Yes, Clara, you need Hush!  :)

        Momento - Coquettish Pink/ Plum, according to the OCC site.  Not too bright, but definitely very pigmented and gives real pop of color. For those afraid of colors but want to try out something brighter within the safety zone, try Momento.

        Pageant - this is a lot brighter and dramatic.  The description is Beauty Queen FUSCHIA, and you get FUSCHIA!   Can be easily toned down with Hush.

        And some of you asked about mixing the colors, so I tried a bit:

        And if you are curious, does Pageant look like Anime??  Anime is supposed to be vivid and NEON pink.  I say Anime has that blue tinge that makes it neon and brighter  than Pageant... but my pictures cannot capture the difference!! Boo.

        And have you seen Kandee Johnson's perfect hot pinkl lips tutorial?  She showed how to do gradient lips to make them look fuller.  So I tried it out while doing all the swatches. I dabbed some Hush in the centre of my lips!  Ta Da!

        And lastly,

        I highly recommend these lip tars.

        *** I swatched everything with my finger.  No  brush, no lip liner, so please pardon any wonky lines. ***

        Hush -- Perfect nude, and to lighten the brighter colors.  I don't find it soooo nude til I look pale and deadly. If you are into nude lippies, you NEED this.  Yes, Clara, you need Hush!  :)

        Momento - Coquettish Pink/ Plum, according to the OCC site.  Not too bright, but definitely very pigmented and gives real pop of color. For those afraid of colors but want to try out something brighter within the safety zone, try Momento.

        Pageant - this is a lot brighter and dramatic.  The description is Beauty Queen FUSCHIA, and you get FUSCHIA!   Can be easily toned down with Hush.

        And some of you asked about mixing the colors, so I tried a bit:

        And if you are curious, does Pageant look like Anime??  Anime is supposed to be vivid and NEON pink.  I say Anime has that blue tinge that makes it neon and brighter  than Pageant... but my pictures cannot capture the difference!! Boo.

        And have you seen Kandee Johnson's perfect hot pinkl lips tutorial?  She showed how to do gradient lips to make them look fuller.  So I tried it out while doing all the swatches. I dabbed some Hush in the centre of my lips!  Ta Da!

        And lastly,

        I highly recommend these lip tars.

        Playing with OCC Lip Tars (Swatches & A Couple of LOTDs)

         

        Hi hi!  All about OCC Lip Tars in this entry! I have decided to open a mini spree for buying OCC Lip Tars... seeing how there has  been enough interest going on around here for me to do so.  The 'spree' order entry will be up in the NEXT entry!!!

        I only have 3 of the lip tars which I ordered from Gwen's spree sometime back.  I went for the bolder colors, and I think my fave would be Grandma.  I got the blue one, in RX just for the fun of it, and maybe as a Halloween costume look (though I don't know what will be my theme this year yet).  So here are my lip swatches and color description:

        These lip tars are hyperpigmented, and if you use them like a gloss... then you will not get the desired results.  In fact, it would be a big mess.  You just need a tiny amount on a lip brush, and paint it over your lips.  I did not use any lip pencil to line my lips, and just kind of free-handed the lip shape with the firm synthetic brush I used.

        They are also meant to be mixed to create the exact color, or create new colors to suit your whim and fancy.  I think Temptalia attempted  the  mixing of colors on her website.  But I am not so adventurous, and I prefer to just get colors which I can just use on its own.

        And so, just to show you how they look like, on an actual LOTD.... the rest of my face is pretty much bare..I have foundation and all that on... but no color at all that distract from the pow-wow color of the lip tars.

         

        So, if you are interested in getting these lip tars, do keep a lookout for the next immediate entry! :)
