MEGA Haul !

Hi hi,

Guess my surprise when I came home just now and found these 2 packages waiting for me to rip open!   I shan't ramble on... it is late, and I think my brain cells are dying on me as I am typing this.

Firstly, we have the Lorraine necklace.  I bought the sterling silver in 42".  And you can click HERE to find out more about the sale.

This tee, btw, I grabbed it at Zara today.  Random!!

And in the other package, it's a pair of cell phone covers -- one for me and one for my sister..... I bought them online from this ebayer.  soooo Bling, so pimping, and tacky....me likey!!  Each costs US$17.99 and FREE INTL SHIPPING!!!

And this last item is random.... was about to leave, and chanced upon this NIXON stylish earphones!!  They have an array of colors.. I choose the black & silver one.  This earphones retails for S$69.  And you can find them at Wavehouse (sentosa), and TANGS.

Ok..... thanks for reading, and if you have any questions, leave a comment! :p

Unexpected Package (NYX haul)

So right after I hit post on my previous entry, this package arrived at my door step.  Merry Christmas, I say!

I bought these items from an ebay seller.  Click here for her store.    Shipping was fast, took maybe a week, and the prices very reasonable.  She has some of the NYX palettes which are not available on Mascara page... and if you read The Yummy Mommy Blog (the makeup merchant aka Holly), and also Lollipop26 have raved about these palettes.  So, I jumped on the NXY wagon.. I have never used NYX eyeshadows before, so this is something new!  And I also got one eyeshadow base....I am kind of rushing through this, as I have to head out soon... so no swatches.  I will update when I have used these products.

She threw in a freebie for me, a nail polish! Woot!

Romance Palette on top, and Catwalk at bottom

Thanks for reading!

YSL Rouge Volupte No 1 & 19 (from ebay)

I bought these 2 lipsticks from ebay.com.sg, and the seller is of course, based in S'pore.  This saves me a lot of money on postage.  I spent a total of $65 (registered mail) for these 2 lipsticks, and considering that each is selling for $42 in the stores (or used to), I say I got a fair deal.  I also made sure I purchase from a reputable seller (her user name is germ1123), and the whole process is very smooth sailing.

I got myself No 1 which is Nude Beige, and No 19 which is Frivolous Pink.

Here are some pictures:

From left: No 4 Sweet Honey, No 1 Nude Beige, No 19 Frivolous Pink, No 7 Lingerie Pink

No 4 Sweet Honey shown below is more 'tan' than No 1 Nude Beige.

No 1 Nude Beige is a really pretty nude color, I think this will quickly become my FAVOURITE nude/ skin color lipstick.

No 7 Lingerie Pink is a peach toned pastel pink.

No 19 Frivolous Pink is more pink, but still very wearable depending on your skin tone.

Yup, hope this comparison is helpful. If you get the chance to swatch them in real life, you find that the color may look harsh and unflattering, which is what I thought months ago when I first tested them at the counter. However, on the lips, the color blend in nicely with your lips and look softer.  This could be due to the silky creamy texture of the product.

Beige & Black nails

I used OPI colours for this fun look.  Hmmmmm I am supposed to be clearing some work.... but obviously SO NOT getting started.

Kind of Chanel-inspired you might say.

Black Oynx and Bare it in Trafaglar Square.

I am also looking at nail supplies online.  Maybe I can do my own gel nails and infills so I don't need to go to a salon to have them touched up regularly.  I am pretty good/skilful with nail stuff in general, so I am quite confident I can pick up the skills quite quickly.  The kit even comes with a DVD manual and it is exactly the same as those used in the shops.

I am on a nail polish spree lately.  Bought 2 more OPI a couple of days ago, and I hauled big time on ebay for China Glaze colors.  Yipeeeeee.

Ebay stuff - Coastal Scents products at even cheaper $$

I bought the Coastal Scents 10 pc blush palette and 3 duo stipling brushes (aka the MAC 187) from this ebay seller, and if you want more information check out this youtube video.

The prices are way cheaper than Coastal Scents. And I don't think they are fake stuff or whatever, cos I am sure CS bought their stock from some mass produced place in China anyway, which is where this ebay seller is from (well, she is in Hong Kong to be exact)  and Singapore is nearer to HK rather than US... so I guess the shipping is cheaper and faster as well.

*update on prices:

10 colour blush palette -- CS ($16.95)   ebay ($7.99)

Pink Duo Stippling Brush -- CS ($7.95)  ebay ($3.99)

Shipping --- CS ($16.85)    ebay($12.97)

Total savings --- CS ($57.85) minus ebay ($32.93)  = $24.92!!!!

Love the colors on the palette, and I don't think I own any colours which are comparable... yet.  I think.

The brushes, well, I would say the texture is more similar to the MAC special edition (SE) brushes which you can feel is more synthetic, and less dense.  I also wash these brushes.  There was a bit of shedding, and a lot of color washing!!

I will prolly post updates when I have the chance to use them for some time.

The shipping is very fast (it is not THAT cheap, but still within reason) and still overall cheaper than if I order from Coastal Scents the cost of each of the items are cheaper than the listed prices on coastal scents website.

Everything is packed nicely, check out the layers of bubble, foam and styrofoam packaging around my palette!!  Nothing was broken, and everything arrived in good condition.

The picture above shows my MAC187 on the left (it is dirty!! I know...) and the new one on the right.  It is less dense as you can see, and looks more 'synthetic'. I bought 3, cos one each for me, and my 2 sisters.

If you want more information and pictures about this palette, check out temptalia, lots of pictures and and reviews.    This is going to be such a FUN palette!!!

Ebay Haul

Hi hi!  Remember the ebay stuff I bought last year?  They arrived today! So it's haul time...... :p

I got quite a few items, but they are quite cheap, all are from NYX except for a Max Factor eyeshadow trio.  Somehow in Singapore, I think the range of NYX available is super limited, whatever they have look so weird in terms of the colors (all shimmery pastel eyeshadows, the odd lip stuff here and there).

Everything is all nicely bubbled wrapped.  I bought my stuff from mssskel and this is the ebay store. This is really cool for me, because I paid a flat rate ($6) for all the items instead of the usual deal which requires you to pay additional shipping per item.  And all the items I got were less than $3 each!!

From L to R Thalia, Lala, Vitamin and Goddess

NYX Jumbo pencils - L Milk, and R Cottage Cheese.  Milk is a matte white color while cottage cheese is a frosty white.  I have seen Milk being used as a base for white eyeshadow looks, and it is really a good sticky base for the white and pale eyeshadows.  I might post some pictures of how I would use this product over the weekend.

NYX Lip Pencils

Swatches - Top L Mauve lipliner Top R Natural lipliner, Bottom L Milk jumbo pencil, Bottom R Cottage Cheese jumbo pencil

MAX Factor eyeshadow trio in 300 Ravenous.  Apparently this eyeshadow can be used wet or dry.  I will do a look using this trio and update over the weekend.

Without flash.  Black, copper, and gold color. I can totally do a metallic smokey look with this product!  Loves it!

What is left of the year...

Hi!! Just some quick updates, and a look of the day coming up.   I was thinking of splitting this up, since it's like a mix and match a few updates... but I think I shall do EVERYTHING in one single post, but I sort of put in headings with the larger fonts.  Please bear with me, and thanks for reading!!

New stuff I bought: 2 matte eyeshadows from MAC in Carbon, and White Frost.  I got them in the pan version so I can pop them into my palette immediately.  They are just the basic black and white eyeshadows, nothing much to say about them.  I had actually wanted Gesso which is a matte white, but it wasn't available.

I am hoping to find copperplate e/s which is a matte2 colour.  And I reorganised my MAC neutrals palette... I think at the rate I am going, I may need to split them into 2, for highlighting shades and another for the browns, greys and blacks.

I also bought some NYX stuff on ebay recently, the shipping is really cheap, I paid a flat fee for whatever I am buying.   I think I got 4 or 5 of the round lipsticks, a MAX FACTOR eyeshadow trio and 2 NYX Jumbo eye pencils in Milk and Cottage Cheese.  Will update when they arrive.  I saw on lollipop26's blog about her ebay haul, and so that's how I found the ebay seller.

I also cleaned my brushes today, and I am trying out a little new trick.  After washing them (with baby shampoo), I wrapped my face brushes, well the goat hair brushes actually, in paper towels.  This is to retain the shape of the brush, as goat hair brushes can get quite fluffy and frayed.  Hope this goes well.  I normally leave my brushes to dry overnight, to make sure they are really dry and clean esp the dense kabuki brushes.  Thanks to MissChievious for this tip, who is by the way, a brilliant make up guru!!!

In the background are my mummified brushes!!  I usually put them all near the window which is airier (is that a proper word?), and also I tilt the brushes slightly so the moisture doesn't flow 'backwards' into the brush handle.  And I stand the kabuki brush to keep its shape.

My Fave brush of the moment below: The BE max coverage concealer brush!!  I use this as a concealer brush. Duh... well because I have not used this brush at all when it came with my BE starter kit last year.  But I think this brush works like a dream with cream formula.  It blends well and I don't have to stick my fingers into the concealer pot.  I can see this being a foundation brush too, but kind of small, it is like the MAC190 brush, but mini version.

Look of the day! Which is quite neutral, and I used matte colors, except for the ilght and highlighting shades.  I used Plummage and Carbon on the outer corner, blended it with Wedge, the highlighting colors I used are Dazzlelights, and White Frost.  On my cheeks, I used Petticoat.  On the lips is Lollipop Lovin'.

Sorry, I just had to pick up the call while taking this picture.  See how well I can multitask.  Haha..

I also used Waveline fluidliner on my lids and the Loreal super liner closer to the lashes.

Side note: My dad just gave me $100!!!  Yippeeee... and I am heading out right after this, my bf is already waiting outside... so I better finish this.  :p  Maybe I can get some shopping done on this last day of 2008.

And if I don't post again it will be 2009, so before I leave... I just want to say HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone.  Wishing all of you happiness, good health and lots of love!  Cheers!!!

About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.
