About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

LOTD: A Party Look with Lancome [and a mini giveaway]

    Hi hi!

I did a quick look featuring the Lancome eyeshadows which I mentioned in the previous entry.  The eyelook is quite the usual, I always go for a defined smokey look most of the time, playing with the texture and color placement.  I also like to go for brighter lipcolors these days, to look more awake somewhat.

The Liner Plume is extremely easy to use, I love the long brush (to reach into the inner corners of the eyes perfectly) and while it didn't swatch the most jet-black, when applied on the eyes, it is super black and intense, and it dries quickly on the eyelids too.

Here's what I did on the eyes:

    1. Applied P 102 Sable Enchante on the browbone.

    2. Applied P 204 Perle Ambree on the lids and crease.

    3. Intensify the look by adding S 207 Fil D'argent on the lids.

    * the eyeshadows are very soft, and easy to work with.  They remind of the Burberry eyeshadows (which are a tad creamier), but in terms of the colors and payoff, very similar.

    4. Line upper eyelids with Liner Plume 01 Noir.

    5. Mascara on lower eyelids with Hypnose Dolleyes mascara.

    * the overall color is darker in real life than these pictures show *

On the rest of the face - all Lancome, as you can see.

Face - Pro Base primer, Teint Miracle liquid foundation, Teint Miracle loose powder -- foundation review here

Cheeks & bronzer - Blush Subtil palette in Nectar Lace --- feature entry here

Lips - Absolu Mat Cashmere 300  --- feature entry here

Eyes - NARS Primer, P 102, P204, S 207 and liner plume Noir (featured here) , Doll Eyes mascara (featured here)

And now for a little giveaway, I had purchased this set of Lancome products at the JPO during my recent trip there.  It contains

    1. Full sized Lancome Hynose Doll eyes mascara 01 So Black

    2. Mini Crayon Kohl Noir

    3. Mini Rouge in Love 322 Coral in Love

To win this set, leave a comment below with your name/email, and answer a simple question, and I will contact the winner before I go off for my holiday.   It is open internationally.

LOTD: Simple Eyes with OCC's Anime Lip Tar

Hi hi, this is a look loosely re-created from Sam (Pixiwoo)'s latest tutorial. Click HERE to watch it.  In the video, she created a winged liner look and used OCC Anime lip tar.  Since I have this lip tar, and have not used it, I thought today would be great to try it out....The color is scarily BRIGHT.. even by my standards... it puts colors like Super, Genial all to shame in its intensity, and thickness.  There is no way you can 'thin' out the color... or adjust the opacity like in Photoshop.  LOL.  Definitely not a color I want to rock on a bright Saturday morning.  I took a few pictures, and then cleaned it off.... and went for a boring..... nudey color instead.

On my eyes, I have MAC Gazette Grey eyeshadow.  I used Illamasqua Tremble blush.

On a more technical note, I don't know if any of you noticed, I have been switching cameras in the last few entries.. (the nail swatch fest, the US haul entry, and tutorial), because my Canon G-11 is with the youngest sister for her photography class, and I was switching between my Canon IXUS85IS and Canon IXUS95IS..... I quite like the real-ness of the IXUS95... and my trusty 85IS never fails me to take quick and fuss free shots.. but I still like my G-11 for the flip-out screen.. it leaves your hands free when you want to take self-portrait..:p

Revlon's Nude Attitude over Anime stained lips.  Haha!

LOTD: Nars Eyes & Chanel Super Lips

    Products used:

Foundation - Sana Pore Putty Base, Maquillage Long Lasting Stick Foundation, Cover Girl Pressed Powder, MUFE Concealer Palette

Eyes - MUFE #15 Aqua Cream, NARS Lola Lola e/s blended all over lids, MAC Brule e/s on brow bone

Lashes, Liner, Lenses:  Palz (ardel 120 dupes), YSL Faux Cils on lower lashes, Loreal Superliner, FreshKon Mosaic Velvet Blue

Lips - Chanel Rouge Allure Super, MAC Electric Cherry Superglass

Cheeks - NARS Laguna, NARS Mounia

The Superglass glitter bits stuck to your lips the whole day, even after I rubbed my lips with tissue paper when I wanted to touch up.  They add a soft touch to a lipstick, and if you are familiar with the 'glasses' that MAC puts out, they are sticky, and you kind of don't want hair streaks across your face, especially when you are rocking serious color like this.  All in all, I say this is a novel product which will make you very happy if you are into dazzling lips.

And since it is the holidays, I rocked a little temporary tattoos,  I placed them on my inner arm, to be a little discreet.

    Thanks for looking!!

LOTD: Applying & Blending Cream Products (feat Maquillage Stick Foundation & MUFE products)

OK, this entry will feature all the products which were mentioned in THIS haul entry.. mainly the MUFE products which I bought yesterday.   A few of you are curious about the application and texture of the Aqua creams and HD blusher, so I thought I would do a super quick look with the products.  I am not a professional, obviously, and I am just sharing with you how I would use the cream products.

At the same time, I am also trying out the Maquillage foundation and blending it using my fingers instead of a brush.  Note that in this look, I am not going to set my foundation at all---- in line with the whole cream/ dewy look.   I am keep powder products to a minimum here.

Step ONE: Already applied foundation and concealer.  Everything blended out with my fingers.  I am only concealing my dark eye circles and not the blemish spots -- too lazy for that.  The concealer I am using is the MUFE No1 palette.

I pumped the HD blush on my finger tips and dotted it all over the area of the cheeks I want the color.  I can be more generous with the amount I used, cos it is such a natural flush color.  Then I spread it out lightly, and then rub gently into my cheeks.  Easy!

STEP TWO.  Applying the Aqua Cream.  I used mainly my finger tips again, and then blended it out with a MAC 226 for more precision.  I am using mainly the #15 all over the lids and #14 just a little on the crease.   I did not use any base like TFSI.  Seriously, it blends so easily, and the finish is just like any look you would get with an eyeshadow.  LOVE this product.  Can you imagine popping it into your bag and doing your MU anytime, you know, like if you have no time to do your makeup, and want to do it when you reach your office or something.. or when you are travelling you don't want to risk breaking your powder eyeshadows in transit etc etc.

UPDATE: I am touching my eyelids now, and it doesn't feel creamy, or sticky..... and so I think that it is unlikely to crease at all.

STEP THREE: Applying the lip color.  Pretty much self explantory in the pictures shown below.. and I tried out two lipsticks for effect.  I know many of us are nude/natural lipstick fans, so I tried one end result with GOSH Darling, and the other one for my 'summer trend' bright lipstick end result.

On  the rest of the eyes, I used a brown liner, applied false lashes, and also smudged a little Aqua Cream #15 under my eyes for subtle definition of the eye-shape.  The only powdery stuff I used is some MAC Solar White e/s on the browbone to highlight.   I also used whatever is remaining on the smudgy brush to fill in my brows quickly.

Yes, I am wearing Geo Lenses in this entry!  Thanks to Amy again, for helping me order!  :)

Well, that wraps up this entry, and I hope it has been helpful to you!

    Thanks for reading.

LOTD: Clean Skin with Neon Lips (Feat. Maquillage Stick Foundation & OCC Grandma)

    Products used:

Foundation: Maquillage Stick Foundation (click HERE for how I apply), La Mer Powder, MUFE Concealer Palette No1

Cheeks: MAC Solar Riche & MAC Instant Chic dusted very lightly

Lips: Exfoliate lips with a cotton stick dipped with MAC Honey Salve, and then applied OCC Lip Tar in Grandma with a benefit synthetic brush, and also a tiny tiny bit of MAC Pink Grapefruit lipglass on top-- but it is hardly noticeable, I used so little.

Eyes: Chanel's Mystic Eyes Quad (I used only two colors), Lashes from Palz, Loreal Super Liner

With a clean face (focus on flawless skin), little eyes and cheeks color, I think this is the season to rock the bright lips trend.  Anyone, seriously, can pull this off.  Life is too short to worry about not trying out new stuff and playing with new colors!

LOTD: Neutral Eyes and Bright Coral Pink Lips (Chanel's Genial & MAC's Instant Chic)

    Hi!

I bought a new Chanel lipstick, from the new summer collection, it is a Rouge Allure.. I swear  I am turning into a chanel lipstick addict.  The packaging, the colors, the texture, omg.  Anyway, this is a almost neon bright coral pink.  I will explain the whole deal about this product in a haul entry later tonight.

    Face: Foundation routine

    Cheeks: MAC Instant Chic (LE)

Lips: Chanel Rouge Allure Genial (LE)

Eyes: Chanel Mystic Eyes Quad and a little of Shu Uemura White Rainbow pat into the inner corner of the eyes

Liners and Lashes: Loreal Superliner, and Palz lashes

I am into trying out these bright lips lately, they are so in for the season, and every brand is releasing all these yummy colors.... Love them.  Life is too short not to try out new lip colors, and that also explains why I am going to be using ALL my lipsticks instead of keeping them in storage.  At least if I don't get to finish them in their lifetime, they got some exposure, and make me happy!  Cheers to that!!
