About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

We Went GAGA [over a few things]

Last week, my whole bunch of buddies and I went to the Lady Gaga concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium (SIS).  We had bought  the tickets the day they were available for sale, there was such a frenzy, everything was sold out,  more shows added, well, it was just kind of crazy.  We ended up with the cheapest tickets available, and literally sat all the way at the top of the SIS.  I think the organisers had planned for a 3 day stint the whole time - but only revealed the second and third show when the first show was sold out in what, 2 hours? and caused a SISTIC system melt-down?

Regardless, the show was a blast, it was a full-length concert as compared to her informal gig I went to 2 or 3 years back when she only had one album out then.  Elaborate sets, costumes, audience bantering --- everything --- Lady Gaga is indeed a consummate performer, and she had the audience hanging on to her every word and movement.

    Totally enjoyed ourselves.

My very quick LOTD for the night:

can't recall the foundation I was wearing already, but here's what else I had on my face

red lipstick - Chanel Rouge Coco Cambon

eyeshadow - Le Metier de Beaute Corinthian eyeshadow

cheeks - Nars Luster (I think so, or else it would be a Chanel Bronze Rose)

My hair was quite messy, because I was trying to section my hair and curl it in a very systematic way, but half way through, the sections got loose, and got mixed with the hair that's already curled.  Duh.  So I ended up grabbing whichever sections I could and curl them anyway.  Tip to myself: try not to curl freshly washed hair - it gets straightened out faster.  Still, the wavy-ness lasted the night, and I really think I should do it more often.

sidenote: I am really loving my long long hair!  I have been putting off the trimming of my hair (except for my fringe) for more than half a year and I am just trying to grow it out as long as I could without the ends looking limp.

quick snapshot I took with my i-phone

cropped and added a color filter which I later posted on my instagram

Besides Lady Gaga... this Zara black tweed blazer got me all frenzied too... it was love at first try.  The blazer fitted me perfectly, length was great , shoulder fitted me, and it has a 'make me look 5kg lighter' look.  So, I had to have it... and after sleeping on it, I went back to make the purchase the following day.

Here are some snapshots I took while trying out the blazer.  It is very lightly lined with chiffon inside, and very lightweight, so it would be great for air-conditioned places...and yet won't make me look ridiculous if I had to head out in the hot sun.

a couple more snapshots from the ZARA website,

and how I paired it whilst trying it out again at the store a second time

(with a neon yellow tunic tank - love how the long tank pops out at the hem)

    LOVES

and I saw this Bershka zebra print scarf, super cute, and it is super big, and I love the bright yellow background.

so, it has to come home with me. :)

What made you go gaga lately?

LOTD - Wavy Hair & Little Fashion Haul

    Hi!

Now that I spend less time on my MU routine, I have more time for .... HAIR.  Hence the effort to curl my hair, and here, I used my GHD flat iron to create the loose waves.  I didn't use much hair products, so after a couple of hours, the waves sort of straightened out. I still need to get the hang of curling my hair with a straightener, because some parts are more curly while others are very lame waves.

On my face: Shu Uemura Nobura cream foundation, MAC Studio Finish Concealer and MAC Azalea Blush.  Forgot to use lipstick today.

And I bought this pair of jeans today, at Bershka for $59.90, which is quite cheap.  I am quite big  and tall in case you can't tell from the pictures, so my clothes are usually US10 or UK12 or 14 depending on the cutting.   The pair of heels (maybe 2cm high) are from New Look, which were on sale, and I paid about $20 for them.  I think they are cute for going out.

On a side note, I think I need to do a REVISED Christmas wishlist.

    Thanks for reading!

    Little Fashion Haul from Bershka

    Hi hi!

Wondering town after a gruelling day, had a much needed latte, and BK, and walked to ION for a bit, and saw the doors of bershka open!!  So I had to go in, it's like a funkier version of pull & bear, sizes run small though, I find. I really like their style, and always wanted to shop there ever since I went to the stores in Barcelona 3 yrs back.

However I did manage to pick up a few items and I want to share with you. 1 big bag and i small bag.

The star of today's buy is the faux leather jacket, in bomber style. The cut and details are very nice, in a glam rock way.  For $129, I think it's kind of reasonable - and it makes me look 10kg slimmer.  We love that!  Haha.  Besides, I think I can still get away with wearing it and not look ridiculous, and it goes with dresses, leggings, jeans etc etc.  Then I got 3 singlets - besides my stash of white tees - I can't stop buying singlets of various lengths and cuts.  These cost $11.90 each, and I got one each in Black (for my friend), Grey and White.  Then at the cashier, I saw this canvas bag, which I like to carry around to hold my random stuff, and it's $4.90.

This is how the singlet looks like - I can even wear it jogging if I am wearing a sports bra under.

The bag.  I like such bags, it's more presentable than those supermarket recycle bags or those nylon jappy types which costs a bomb.

And I tried on the jacket with some dress at Zara later on, and here are the results:

I like such faux leather jackets.... I wish we have cool weather all year around, it would be my everyday item.  I own one... but it is kind of too thick, and a little too big, but good for actually wearing during winter abroad cos I can layer all I need.  Case in point: this pic below, worn with 4 layers of clothes under the jacket.

    I heart Paris!!

And this wraps up  my little fashion haul.  Thanks for reading!!

Note to self: buy contest prizes this weekend!!!
