About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

LOTD: GA ETK #15 Black Copper & YSL #148 Tea Rose

Simple quick wearable smokey neutral eyelook.  [These are pretty much the essential keywords in most of my LOTDs, right?]

I am liking in particular how flawless my skin looks this morning.  Could be due to a few possible factors:

    1.  I masked the night before with my Dior One Essential Ultra Detox mask

    2. I also used my Clarisonic before the mask

    3. My 'spots' have gradually faded, thanks to my Lancome serum duos [Genefique & Visionaire]

    4. Chanel VitaLumiere Aqua is a pretty darn good foundation to fake flawless skin

    All products used:

Base - Missha CBY BB Cream, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, Ettusais Loose Powder

Concealers - DIorshow skinflash 003, and Lancome Renergie Eye Multiple Action [the concealer]

    * I didn't have to conceal my spots this morning, they were all even-ed out after foundation routine

Cheeks - Clarins Mosaique Bronzer, MAC Comfort MSF, Cle de Peau Vintage Palette III

Lips - Tom Ford Blush Nude, YSL #148 Tea Rose

Eyes - Etude House eyeshadow primer, Soap & Glory Arch de Triump (the highlighter end), GA ETK #15, Loreal liquid liner

    Nails - Chanel's Nouvelle Vague

which matches my new iphone case

That's all, thank you for looking!

*I have a ton of goodies entries to post but I have no time to take pictures & swatch!

LOTD: NARS Mangrove Eyeshadow & More

    Hi!

If I look especially tired and blah in these pictures, that'sbecause my eyes are rather teary, and I can feel a bout of cold/ flu coming on --- not fun at all.  And I had some probs putting on the lashes on my left eye, and that explains the veins popping red.

So maybe not the best day to try out NARS Mangrove eyeshadow, which is a --- and I take the color description from Temptalia ---"mustard yellow with just a tinge of green"... and from nars website, "magnificence of this tropical tree, captured in the softest yellow laced with lime".

I was debating whether to pair this color with my MUFE No92, or a coopery brown, or the smokey peacock blue from the Rajasthan duo.  In the end, NARS China Blue won out -- it looks greyish black for some reason in the pictures.

On the rest of my face:

Foundation: NARS face primer, NARS Firming Foundation, La Mer powder

    Cheeks: NARS Madly

Lips: YSL Rouge Pur 148 Tea Rose

Eyes: NARS pro shadow primer, NARS Mangrove, NARS China Blue, NARS Abyssina, MAC Feline, MAC Signature Blue super slick liner

** I am also growing out my brows for a little project with my friend **

I really like Mangrove, and I think I want to try it with the peacock blue from the Rajasthan duo next time, or with MAC Plummage e/s which is a matte peacock blue/green color.

    More pictures:

    and this particularly blah shot:

and since we are here, I showed this nail color combination on twitter a couple of days back:

(darker shade - MAC Dry Martini, lighter shade - MAC In the Buff)

    * ignore the truckload of dry cuticles and general yuckiness going on around my nails... I haven't had a proper manicure at the salon.... I think in at least 6 months....*

That's all, and thanks for looking!
