MUFE Rouge Artist Natural & Intense [Nudes & Reds Swatches, Comparisons & LOTDs]

This entry will feature the second edition of MUFE's rouge artist lipsticks.  Dany Sanz, wanted to showcase the profusion of colors in this collection.  More than ever before, ROUGE ARTIST is a real artist's palette in which makeup expresses itself and turns into an experience.  Beauty becomes one with creation in an array of lipsticks in every tone.

I have one each from each series, the ROUGE ARTIST NATURAL and the ROUGE ARTIST INTENSE to showcase here.  I already own a couple of the Rouge Artist intense lipsticks, and they are really smooth and some of the most pigmented lipsticks in my collection.

What's the difference  between ROUGE ARTIST NATURAL & ROUGE ARTIST INTENSE?

Rouge Artist Natural

  • Avant-Garde Lipstick, Sheer Transparency
  • It is inspired by a return to naturalness, a key trend for spinrg 2012, focusing on fresh, vibrant tones in wardrobes and vanity cases.
  • The result: an astounding choice of shades that are as striking as ever, in an ideal sheer texture to spark inspiration.
  • Lipstick becomes playful with fashion colours.
  • Dresses lips in crystal clear shine.
  • Naturally enhances the radiance of the lips.

Rouge Artist Intense

  • Supreme pigmentation, supreme coverage, immediate seduction.
  • Real lipstick, with lasting hold.
  • Object of desire and femininity turns lip makeup into an art form.
  • Melt away texture, and extreme colour result.
  • A formula saturated with pure colour pigments, a creamy formula and dazzling shades in a variety of finishes, matte, satiny or pearly.

Comes in 100 shades! (WOW)

From the most classic to the most extravagant colours, from the most natural to the most sexy.  A hint of nude or passionate red.

I have two shades here:  some product close ups.

MUFE Rouge Artist Natural No.5 is a NUDE BEIGE. My lips but better shade.  It is nude, but the kind of nude that will suit most skintones, it is not the concealer like kind of dull pale, but a glossy natural looking lipstick shade.

MUFE Rouge Artist Intense in the shade MOULIN ROUGE - and well, it is a sexy seductive red, like what the girls of Moulin Rouge would wear on stage during performances.  It is a true red leaning with cool undertones.  I think it suits me, deeply intense red.  Takes a little bit of guts to pull this off for sure.
I can imagine my sister rocking this lipstick, because she is all about the red lips.

It was just lipsticks GALORE!

That's all, and I hope this has been helpful!

NEW MUFE La Bohème Collection for SS2012 [Photos & Swatches]

Now available at Sephora and MUFE stores.

MUFE's Spring collection is all nature and gypsy inspired, and sees a new eyeshadow palette which is made up baked eyeshadows (made in Italy). The La Bohème palette contains six eyeshadows, which are all shimmery and quite smooth. The baked powder technology ensures fine, intense color particles for eyeshadows with 50% pearly particles and a paraben-free formula. The colors are a little bit sheer, and you can build up the color intensity by either using it wet, or adding more layers if desired.  The packaging of the palette is dressed in MUFE creator, Dany Sanz’ favorite patchwork patterns.

La Bohème palette S$59 (LE)
"Enriched with mineral powders and a high concentration of pearl, La Bohème Baked Eye Shadow Palette includes luminous shades with a lightweight texture and a silky feel. Apply dry for a natural-looking result or wet to intensify the color and finish."
  • Lagoon Green
  • Natural Green
  • Beige
  • Parma Violet
  • Brown
  • Coral
There are also two Rouge Artist Natural lipsticks released in this collection, Bohème - a soft peach-beige, and Folk - an iridescent red-coral.
The lipsticks retail for S$35 each and are limited edition.

"Rouge Artist Natural's ultra creamy formula hydrates the lips with a natural sheen. Enriched with nourishing properties, its smooth texture glides on effortlessly and its colorful pigments compliment the lips with a transparent finish. These fresh and romantic shades add the perfect touch to your favorite spring look."

Next, there is the La Bohème Aqua Eyes which is an award-winning, waterproof, smudge-proof, and fade-proof eyeliner that doubles as a vibrant eye shadow.

"Now available in a rich brown, matte-finish formula, this bestselling eyeliner has become a favorite among all women who fear the dreaded raccoon eyes. Formulated to glide on effortlessly and withstand the most extreme conditions, it stays put on eyelids without melting for precise application and intense color throughout the day."

Available in one shade, and limited edition.  Retails for S$33

Gypsy – matte black-brown

And lastly, I also received the new EYE PRIME which is an eyeshadow base, I don't have news yet as to how much this is, but I shall update as soon as I get more information.

Photos & Swatches below:

I have done a look using all the products here, and shall post that very soon.  Coincidentally, it is quite similar to the model's look in the promo image, except that I have a nude lip while she is wearing the redder lipstick.

Sarah featured this collection on her website recently (link !)

Joey also shared some beautiful images from this collection (link !)

Hope this has been helpful, and thank you for looking.

LOTD: Stila's Natural Eyes Palette

Hi hi,

Another 'detailed' LOTD where I talk you through the products which I am using in this entry.

Instead of another neutral brownish eye makeup look using this palette, I went for a greyish dark smokey eyes, with classic nude lips.  You can definitely re-create this look with any another brand of eyeshadows... since the colors here aren't terribly unique anyway.  If you have the Naked palette, all the colors are in that palette too.

I first primed my eyes with UDPP, and then I dusted some of the blending colors (indicated in the picture below) on my crease to build a contour shade.  Then I used a tapered brush (MAC 226) to apply and blend the 'lids' shade all over the lids.  I blended this quite high up, and as this color blends upwards, it goes into the matte blending shade, so this gives you some gradient of colors, and no harsh lines.  To deepen the look, I used the matte black shade on the outer corners of the eyes.

I heavily rimmed my eyes with Stila's Smugepot in Golden Noir, and finished off with two coats of mascara for lower lashes.  I used rather natural false lashes on my upper lids, because since the eyeshadows are already quite dark, any 'big lashes' will not show too much.  I just wanted some definition to my eyes.  I also cleaned up around the eyes by dusting away any fallout, and using NARS Nico to subtly highlight around the eyes area.

Here are the colors I used:

Close up of eyelook

Foundation/ Cheeks:

I used mainly Clarins face products in this LOTD.

I wanted to create a very flawless and slightly glowy look, and  I didn't want any blushes to compete with the eyelook.  I used Clarins Beauty Flash Balm as a base - which tightened my skin just a little, and make it look smoother, followed my Clarins Skin Illusion foundation in 104.  I used my usual concealers (Shu Uemura pro gel cealer, and MAC Prep+Prime highlighter) to hide away any imperfections.

I also did not want to look too bare and pale, so I dusted Clarins Mosaique bronzer on my forehead, sides of my face and also lightly on my chin.  This is turning out to be one of my absolute staples, whether it's summer or rainy, regardless the season.  I then used Dior's Aurora bronzer on my cheeks for some natural color.  I also used Giorgio Armani Micro-Fil light pink powder as a glowy highlight just at the top of my cheeks.  I am falling in love with this loose powder, it gives just the most subtle and glowy pearlescent finish to your skin.  It is simply divine.

I applied MUFE Rouge Artist Intense lipstick in #22 which is a creamy matte nude color directly from the tube, and then I used my fingers to dab and blend out the color.  I didn't really like the matte effect, so I slapped on some Clarins Color Quench Lip Balm 01 over it.  It adds moisture and some sparkle to the lip color without changing the original color of the MUFE lipstick.

Overall, this is really a classic smokey eyes that is easy to create in a short time.  The application and blending of the eyeshadows is really simple and effortless... I have never been into complicated placement of colors, often preferring to blend one main color all over my lids, and pop some blending and/ or outer colors if I am feeling a little fancy.  Other than that, with just a dense fluffy brush, and a beautiful shade, you can pretty much do anything you want with just simple tools and skills.  Practice makes perfect (not saying that I am, but you get the drift) and you just find out along the way what works for your eyeshape and what type of look you want to achieve.

Summary of all products used:

Base: Clarins Beauty Flash Balm, Clarins Skin Illusion liquid foundation, Ettusais Mineral Loose Powder

Concealers: MAC Prep+Prime highlight, Shu Uemura Pro Gel Cealer (my HG concealer for the past few months)

Cheeks: Clarins Mosaique Bronzer, Dior Aurora, GA Micro-fil Light Pink Loose Powder

Lips: MUFE Rouge Artist Intense #22, Clarins Color Quench Lip Balm 01

Eyes: Stila Natural Eyes Palette, Stila Smudge Pot Golden Noir

Haul: MUFE Goodies

Last week, I met up with Sarah, Kas and Joey for dinner and some shopping at MUFE [they are located at One Raffles Place on the 4th floor].

Spent more than an hour swatching and playing with all the colorful pigments, aqua liners and lipsticks, before I decided on these items for myself.  I did get several other items but they are for my sis and a friend, so I shall only swatch what I got for myself.

Eyeshadow in #148 Satin yet matte looking rich taupe color.  I wasn't paying attention to this eyeshadow, til Kas swatched it and she literally gasped at the texture and color payoff.   And it looks like a color which I would use all the time, so I added that to my little basket of items.

Aqua Liner in #11 a dark red metallic shade.  I already own 2 of these liners and I really love how they last and stay vibrant the whole day.

Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick #37 a bright reddish pink color.  I was toying with #38 and/or #40 (one is a bright pink, and one a bright orange)  but I compromised and got something in between.  The texture is rich and creamy, and the payoff is, like the name states, intense.  Loves.  And then I realised I prolly have several dupes at home from my YSL Rose Dahlia, Chanel Super/ Genial etc etc.  But this is really creamy, and lasting.

Swatches of all the MUFE Aqua Liners can be found in my entry HERE:

Will feature these beauties in a LOTD soon, stay tuned!  :)

Thanks for looking!

Makeup Heaven Part 8: Sephora on Las Vegas Blvd - MUFE Galore!

The Sephora store on Las Vegas Blvd has a huge MUFE section inside, it stocks all the pro items [ie special effects stuff, hair stuff, colors etc etc], and so I thought this deserves a special entry of its own.  Also I swatched all the new MUFE Aqua  Liners in case you are interested [didn't bother with swatching the white/ clear one though].

The store has a beautiful facade, because it is part of the Venetian building, which is very 'ancient Roman' style architecture -- and best of all, it is just a 5 minute walk from the Palazzo past the gondola and a while stretch of high-end shopping.  Also the Madam Tussaud wax museum is located above the Sephora.

There are also 2 more Sephora stores located further down the strip, and at Town Square.  But this is my absolute fave one.

I bought these two Aqua Liners, #14 and #12.

Check out how they glisten in the natural lighting, and with the multi-color shimmers!

I have 2 or 3 more parts of Sephora heaven to be posted, stay tuned!

Thanks for looking!

BASICS: Cream Concealers & Brushes

Hi hi!

This entry will be about the cream concealers I am currently using.  I think I go through phases with my concealers--sometimes I use the liquidy tube types, and sometimes I favour these pan cream form of concealers.....anyway,  I mainly use them for covering spots, and not so much under the eyes.  I also have another stash of creamy concealers in a tube, but I would not be showing them in this entry.

I shall go through each one, like how long they last, whether they smear off, and the color/ texture etc.   Hope this would be useful for anyone who is looking for a lasting smooth coverage cream concealer!

Makeup Forever Camouflage Cream Palette

[5 x 2g]

These colors are also sold individually.

From L to R: No 11, 13, 14, 15, 17

I like that this palette has a variety of concealers and correctors.  As you can see, I mainly only use the first color there, and it's great for most of my zits, I hardly need to blend or mix with the other two shades.  I like that it also comes with two corrector shades, which are the peachy one, and the green one.  But I don't have extreme redness on my face, so I don't need to use the green shade much at all.  I used to use the peachy shade for under my eyes in the past, but somehow after I stopped doing that.

It lasts throughout the day, and also is handy for quick touch ups.  In terms of blending, somehow this is not my most favourite - it seems almost a little too dry.  And I always use this palette with a little tiny brush for spot concealing.

Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda 07

Concealer Palette

2 concealer shades, 2 neutraliser, 1 translucent powder

[4 x 1g]

* you can find this product locally HERE at under-twenty20*

I have this for a long time, and it's one of my fave, because it contains almost the exact same shades at the MUFE palette, without the green one.  I love that it has a powder pan, and it's super finely milled, perfect setting the concealer.  I like to have this with me all the time, in case in touch ups, and to cover any redness of zits.  It is also easier to blend than the MUFE one, and is thick enough to cover zits and spots.

Shu Uemura Pro Gel Cealer

5g   $48

medium light beige

This gel concealer has a very unique texture.  At first swatch and touch, it feels rather dry, and seems almost cakey.  But it sits very nicely on your skin...it doesn't bulge at all.  Sometimes I have to cover a spot on my cheeks, and even after I dusted blush and powder over, the concealer is still intact.  It is also a good match for my skintone.   But I won't use this under the eyes, it would be too thick.   This is probably quite similar to the MAC studio sculpt concealer, in terms of overall finish.  And did I mention, it is super opaque??  Awesome!

shu uemura nobora cream foundation

This is a foundation, but I prefer to use it as a concealer.  It is thick, and creamy, and perfect for touch ups on the go.  I don't need to set this cream foundation, and it sits nicely on the skin without being cakey or dry.   But it is discontinued....so I don't think you can find it anymore.

Again, this is one of my fave cream base products.  The shade is a great match for me, and it lasts for a good period of time.

L nobara cream foundation

R pro gel cealer

And a comparison of all the concealers here...all the colors are very similar, especially those I use for concealer [as opposed to neutralizing or correcting].   I love them all, and just grab for whichever is nearest to me.  I always have the Sonia Kashuk or the Shu Uemura in my bag especially on long days.

As for brushes, you want to use the tiniest brush to precise application, and to make sure you don't end up with a patch of concealer on your spot.   Think of it as photo-shopping for your skin.  Fingers can be too 'rough' and blends out the product too much.

Always set cream concealers with a light dusting of powder to seal the product, and make sure they will last longer.

Shown here are 2 eye brushes from Real Techniques, and also a MAC 194 brush for if I want to cover any larger patch.   I have also featured art brushes before for concealers.  You want to use synthetic brushes, because they are much easier to clean.

Other recommendations of similar products:

MAC Studio Sculpt concealer [I love love love this!]

MAC Studio Finish concealer

Laura Mercier secret camouflage concealer

That's all, and hope this has been helpful to you!

Haul: MUFE "Happy Birthday FacesBySarah"

Kimberley & Jennifer were still in the store making their purchases! Sorry didn't get to take  group pictures with you girls!

This is a special haul entry, because we got an amazing deal at MUFE today, 30% off everything, because it is Sarah's BIRTHDAY!  Sarah is an amazing makeup artist, and you can see her works and join her FB group HERE!  So just want to say a great THANKS to Sarah for giving us this chance to stock up on our fave MUFE products, and also for many others to try products from this great brand.

Here is what I bought - even though there are many more items I wish I want to get, I told myself, I must not buy anymore point (eyes, cheeks, lips) products, and stick to the base products.   Three modest items in all.  Even though it was a little crowded at the pro store today, we all agreed that the staff there were very helpful, and attentive despite having many groups of people to attend to.

Prices before 30% discount

  • Super Matte Loose Powder #1    $59
  • Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick #22    $38
  • Lift Concealer #3   $39

The super matte loose powder is a re-purchase.  It is a fantastic setting powder, but I never got to re-purchasing it, because I am rotating too many powders currently (for example, Laura Mercier, La Mer, Chanel, NARS, Dermablend, Everyday Minerals...you name it, I got it! LOL).  But with the discount, well, I just thought might as well.

Seriously, I swear, my previous super matte loose powder is a PINK one...but this is like...a pale beige? Hmmmmmm, and it didn't come with a sponge?  Oh well.  Regardless, it is super finely milled, and by using the press-and-roll method with your powder puff, it gives the most flawless finish to your foundation.

Next, is a Rouge Artist Intense lipstick.  Yes, I don't need another lippy, but Sarah is always raving about this range of lipstick, so I think I got to try it out for myself.  Got a predictable nudey shade.  The texture is creamy, and the color is pigmented.   And now I just realised --- is this going to be the same as the MAC Viva Glam Gaga II which I have recently ordered??  Oh well!  Dang!  :p

I think I have almost every type of concealer from MUFE now (except for the HD concealer)!!!  This is the Lift Concealer, it has a very gel like, light consistency.  But the coverage is pretty industrial.  I think this is great for both under eyes and spots.   I intend to use this on its own, or mix and match with my other concealers.

My tube concealers (not including those in a pen, in a palette, and in pots.  Gosh!!)

Swatches - you can see the difference not just in the shades, but also the formula/ texture.   I like to mix and get the color which I want.

And some more pictures while we were outside the MUFE pro store.

That's all, and thanks for looking!

LOTD & Haul: Great Saturday!

Met quite a few of my onsugar buddies today for a day of events and fun times!  I have already posted the Niu-Er event previously, and this entry shall be about the other random stuff which happened too.

Foundation: Chanel Sheer Illuminating Base, Clarins Firming Foundation #103, La Mer powder

Cheeks: Guerlain Blush G Serie Noire

Lips: Lancome gloss

Some of my accessories for the day:

Alexander Wang Studded Bag

And here are some random stuff I bought:

The Body Shop has their promotion again, and this is when I stock up some shower shampoos.

And we went to Zara, and I bought this long sleeved slubbed jersey tee, which I can pair with a black pants or pencil skirt for work.  I like the chic shade of grey. Also available in a deep red and white shades.

And I also got these two brushes from Amy who recently ordered from Coastal Scents. I paid S$15 for these brushes.

Yup, that's all, I had such a great time today, going for the MUFE sale, and the Niu Er talkshow.  We had dinner together after the talkshow, and it was just non-stop laughter the whole time - Kas, Amy, Joanna and Jerlaine.  The MUFE haul entry will be up next.

Thanks for reading!!

Weekly Makeup: January 25, New Shoes & Freckled Ramble

hi hi,

I skipped last week's weekly makeup.  Don't know why... but whatever!  Over the weekend, because I am doing all the LOTDs, I ended up with a overflowing tray, and I was kind of too lazy to put the 'extra' stuff away.  But I am 'settled' into my daily routine again, and put away the nice extras which I don't have time for in the morning.

Here are the main items (brows & concealers are pretty much the same, so I didn't show in pictures):

Foundation: Mixture of Chanel Mat Lumiere 20 and Max Factor Lasting Performance in 100

Both have very similar formula, but one is a tad too dark/ beigy, and one is a tad too pink/ whitish... so I will put a drop of the Max Factor into my Chanel foundie.  And both are long lasting foundations, so they are really very similar!

Concealer Brush Rave!! I love using this angled art brush for my concealer.  It is synthetic, and cost only $3!  Gives the most precise application, perfect for applying the product onto the tiny spots of imperfections on my face.

The rest of the products, on the cheeks:

I am just feeling kind of 'cheeky' this week, trying to be fancy and all, so I piled on 3 products!

MAC Cheeky Bronze MSF, NARS Luster  (which is similar tone to Cheeky Bronze but much finer) and then lightly contour with MUFE Mat Bronzer #02.

This is the result of the 3 cheek products on my face.   Note, this is foundation after around 9 hours of wear, albeit it was a pretty cooling day, and I didn't perspire much.  I had to blot twice though, as usual, which probably explains the redness around the nose.

And no I didn't wear this to work, it is just a grey cami I wore underneath my blouse, and the twisted straps are part of the design.. and gosh, can you see the freckles on my shoulders?? They have been there for years, and I don't even expose my bare arms to the sun much at all.  How on earth do the spots appear there!!   The spots don't really bother me, because I hardly look at my shoulders, and well, as long as they don't spread any more... I guess I ain't going to do anything crazy to try to remove them.

A close up look of the spots

Any of you with the same spotty issues?

And lastly, just to show 2 pairs of shoes which I have been wearing to work lately:

One is a recent purchase, a pair of Converse slip-ins.. they are sooooo light, and so easy to wear (no fuss with shoelaces) I knew they would make great everyday work shoes for me.   They are a little damp right now, because I just walked home, and it was raining so bad, even the super big brolly I had didn't help prevent my pants and shoes from getting wet.

And another pair of shoes, I got them from ASOS last year, they look kind of manly, but very comfy, and makes my pants/ shirt outfit look smarter.

It came looking this seasoned, very worn look, which I love!  And they aren't very expensive, I think they cost around S$60 max.

If I am wearing a skirt or dress for the day, I usually just wear my black flats from Topshop or American Eagles.  These flats are super nice for driving about too! But sad to say, ever since I got my license, I haven't been driving as much as when I was learning how to drive (oh man, why are car prices so exorbitant here!!!)

I am also currently on a crash diet, yup, that's the only thing I can call it, for a week, it's a wreck on my social life, no dinner meetings, no outings, no cravings!  It's my personal mission to lose some kg before the new year season starts, and time is running out.  I will settle into a more sustainable routine (ie regular exercising after next week).  Yup, I know crash diets aren't really effective, but I just need to get "into the mood" again after slacking about for too long.  Clothes don't lie! :)

That's all, and thanks for looking!

ps  It's Wednesday already?!  I so cannot wait for next (short) week!

About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.
