About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

MAC Lightscapade MSF [Photos, Swatches & Comparison]

I managed to get the MAC Lightscapade (darn the spelling I got to check each time I type this word), and let's not even talk about saying it right!

Anyway, this is one of those rare 'collectible' MAC MSF which was released a few years back, and has achieved that 'cult status' similar to the likes of Stereo Rose, Petticoat, Light Flush, New Vegas.... But once the collection hit the stores, and I saw some of the haul entries and videos, there was a lot of talk that the new release product isn't as pretty in terms of the veining of the previous one.

From what I remember and have seen before on other blogs, the original Lightscapade has more obvious and differentiated veining, but the new one seems to be just a pale mineralised powder.  You can barely see the veinings of baby blue, and pink...but the rest of it is a pale pale pastel beige/gold.   I do like the newer MAC MSFs as they aren't chunky glittery and have rather nice and smooth texture.

My Lightscapade may  not have the same beautiful veining as the original, but it is still super pretty nonetheless, especially when swatched and applied.

And special thanks to Jerlaine for helping me to purchase the powder! :)

Here are some swatches, and also a couple of other similar shades in my stash to compare with:

    • NARS Nico is the 'darkest' and blends into my skintone, indeed, I have often use this pressed powder blush all over my face if I need to freshen up my face quickly.  It is not too shimmery, and is a great all over face powder, even though technically it is a blush.

    • NARS Albatross is the most yellowish gold, it is as smooth as Lightscapade, as you can see, both give different types of cheek/face highlight effect.

    • Guerlain Pressed Meteorites is the smoothest, but also the sheerest among the four I have compared.  It's not a bad thing, as I often use it to give my face a very subtle all over glow.

    • Lightscapade is not too cool nor warm toned, and I think it will suit all skintones as a pretty cheek/ face highlighter.

And while I was going through my stash, I saw another pretty MSF... which is Perfect Topping from a couple of years back.   It reminds me of Benefit Sugarbomb... that kind of pale cheek color, which is very flattering and easy to use.  I normally use Perfect Topping if I want some sheen to my cheeks (it is very very smooth) and also if I need to tone down a too bright blush or blend out the edges of my blush.

A couple of close up shots of Perfect Topping MSF

You see why some beauty junkies are out to collect these MSFs, because they often have such beautiful veinings!

Do you have a favourite MSF or you love them all??

    Thanks for looking!
