About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

No ads, no paid links etc please.  I am in charge of all content and pictures here.

I am not a makeup artist, nor do I have any professional training in makeup.

Chanel Illusion D'Ombre 84 Epatant [Swatches & Comparisons]

So, I didn't go crazy and buy all the Chanel Illusion D'Ombres when they were first released last year.  This is because these are all permanent products, and there isn't a rush to have to get them all at one shot.  There were at least 3 shades which I was very keen on, and I started with a peachy neutral shade in Emmerville 82, and in the recent Metro 20% off sale, I got 84 Epatant with the help of my friend who is a cardmember.

The usual retail price is S$58. S$52 sorry, my mistake.

Epatant is a beautiful multi-color shimmery creams shadow, it had olive khaki tones, and is neutral (but not earth tones).   I think it looks great on its own, or you if want to make it more intense, use it over a black base, or if you want it to look more green, apply with a green base underneath.  The shimmery goodness of Epatant is amazing, and I highly recommend this shade.

I usually use products like this on its own, with a regular eyeshadow primer to prevent any creasing.  Emerville is able to last me the whole day without any fading or creasing.

    More photos and swatches:

I know the picture below is blurred and extremely close up, but you can see how shimmery Epatant looks, and the olive khaki tones.

Here is how Epatant looks like in comparisons to other pots which might look remotely similar.

I am not suggesting any of these are dupes, but you can see the different textures.

Which is your favourite Illusion D'Ombre?  If I get more of these, they would be the Illusiore (purple) and/or Mirifique (black).

That's all, and hope this has been helpful.  :)

Chanel Cravings: Fall 2011 Makeup Collection

    All image credits CAFE MAKEUP

So I was innocently browsing the web after my jog this evening, and I popped over to one of my fave makeup sites, Cafe Makeup, and guess what, I came across these sneak peeks of the upcoming Chanel Fall collection.  And we are barely done with the summer collection!  Gosh.  This whole collection is just gorgeous!

Please check out Cafe Makeup for the full list of products and pictures!  I am just highlighting those I am lemming for right now.

Let's make a list of the items I know I definitely would be getting:

    Les 4 Ombres in Prélude

[this looks similar to Mystic, so I have to check it out in person before I decide for sure]

Six shades of a whipped gel eyeshadow, Illusion D’Ombre, which have a shimmery effect:

again, I want to swatch them in person, in case they turn out like the MAC big bounce eyeshadows.

But the colors I am lemming for are

Illusion d’Ombre in Emerveillé [peachy color]

Illusion d’Ombre in Epatant [olive goldish color]

Illusion d’Ombre in Illusoire [taupe mauve color]

Illusion d’Ombre in Fantasme [shimmery white]

And the 3 nail polishes are my definite must haves:

    From L to R

    Graphite, Peridot, Quartz

you can see swatches of the 3 nail polish HERE.

but I don't think she does any credit to the colors...there is only one picture, and not a super clear one at that.

Let's hope the colors do look as lovely in real life too.

and let's throw in this lovely blush too!

    Joues Contraste in Rose Écrin

What are you lemming from this collection?

I think they will be released July/ August.  Can't. Wait.

    Chanel Fall 2011 Makeup Craves

Everything in this collection is suckering me in.

Most of all, the Illusion d’Ombre - which are not permanent, apparently.

    Says Peter Philips:

Épatant, a gunmetal shade from his new-for-autumn Illusion d’Ombre cream eye shadow collection, which he mixed with two of the range’s other shimmering shades in white and black to create the focal point of the look. “They come with an applicator, but I prefer to use my finger,” Philips said of the mousse-y pigments, which can go on thick for opacity or sheered out for transparency. “You can actually use it as an eyeliner, too,” he pointed out—dipping an angled brush into the sparkling onyx pot and scrawling it across the upper lash line. A similar smudged line was drawn using Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner in Ébène below the lower lash line before Philips whipped on a few coats of its Inimitable Waterproof mascara in Noir.

    Product information:

[only including the ones I know I will definitely be purchasing]

Eyes: Illusion d’Ombre in Epatant, Mirifique, and Fantasme

Nails: Le Vernis Nail Colour in Graphite

    [available July/ August 2011]

Full article/ blog entry which I came across this lem-worthy and droolsome collection HERE.

Full video of the Chanel A/W 2011 runway show HERE.    Beautiful soundtrack too, features a 1987 track by The Cure called A Forest.

Meanwhile, sometime closer in the near future, I am wanting these:

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy  - currently available

Soleil Tan de Chanel  Bronze Rose - summer 2011 collection
