About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

No ads, no paid links etc please.  I am in charge of all content and pictures here.

Giorgio Armani Face Fabric Second Skin Nude Makeup SPF12 [Photos, Swatches & Application]

I had purchased my latest GA foundation - the Face Fabric Second Skin Nude Makeup -  from the newly revamped and open DFS Galleria.  This is the face fabric foundation, and it costs S$65.  I got mine in the shade 1, which is the palest shade.  It was love at first swatch - the texture feels silicon-ish , it is like a liquidy creamy powder (yes, I know it sounds crazy but it's true) type of product.  The texture is so light, and when it is fully blended out, it leaves a silky powdery finish.

The only drawback is that it has only a light coverage, and I don't think it is going to be setting any records in the longetivity department.  I am just totally suckered by  the amazing texture and finish, and it is something totally unlike any of the foundations in my stash.

Actual product description from the site:

“Fabric is the reason for my success.”

Giorgio Armani translates his skills in texture and layering into its unique range of cosmetic textiles, a wardrobe for face. Face fabric is an invisible makeup with a 3D Micro-fil technology.

Its unique Micro-fil™ formulations bring lightness and fluidity to makeup, allowing infinite blending and layering to enhance the natural glow of the skin.

A subtle, neutral palette is accented with two shades - porcelain and apricot - to be used alone to create a healthy-looking glow, combined with any of the shades to boost the color, or alone to sculpt or highlight the complexion. For normal to oily skin, providing sheer coverage.

    swatches

    the powdery smooth finish

on my face - without any primer

even though it has light coverage (my marks still show through)

but it smooths out my skin, and randers my pores significantly less visible

whatever I need to conceal, I can use my concealer

you can see how light the coverage it

there is overall evening out of skintone, and a slight matte radiance

the finished look - well, if you can call just the foundation & some lip balm finished...

I didn't set with powder, no brows, no blush

I applied Dior Lip Balm for some moisturising effect and color.

I might give this an updated review, in terms of the lasting powder, and all that details in a later entry.

I hope this is helpful, and thank you for reading.

LOTD: Armani Eyes to Kill Intense in No.6 Khaki Pulse

    Hi hi,

I got one more Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill intense eyeshadow recently, all thanks to Jolyn who went to HK recently.  This is in the color #06, and it's called Khaki Pulse.

For more Eyes to Kill entries, click on the following:

    LOTD with #04 Pulp Fiction

Swatches of various Eyes to Kill

    LOTD with #03 Pupura

This is a easy to use color that you can build up to a smokey intense metallic smokey eyes, or just a light sweep all over the lids for some definition and natural colour.  It's 'natural' but not boring.

If you want a precise and intense application, use a paddle type of brush to apply the product [eg MAC239 type of brush] and if you want to blend out the edges, or just want a light sweep of color all over, use a fluffy dense brush.  [eg MAC 217 type of brush].

I recommend using a eyeshadow primer underneath for maximum lasting and crease-proof power.

Color is more vibrant and shimmery in real life.

Sorry for the recent half face pictures, my other eye is a litttle nasty, you see what I mean in the last pic there.   And I feel I am getting so pouffy!  Argh.  Holidays are here, and I need to detox and de-fat myself.  :(

    Everything else on my face:

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm, Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation, MAC Cheeky Bronze, Oriental lip balm, MAC powdersurge on lower lids, shu uemura pro-gel cealer

How I apply this product to achieve the look:

I use a primer first, which is the UDPP.  Then I apply a flesh colored eyeshadow all over browbone for some subtle highlight.  Then I packed on the color on my lids, just making sure the color is the most intense nearest to the lashes.. and it gradually blends/ fades upwards to the crease -- using a fluffy brush like MAC217.  Once you are happy with the blending, you can go back and intensify the color on the eye but using a MAC239 to pack on the color.

The multi-dimensional colors --both warm and cool toned metallic shades makes this neutral color very chic and again, makes it looks like you have spent time to achieve the overall effect, when it's really just slap it on and go.  :)

See that corner of my eyes, it is kind of raw at the moment!  :(

Got a manicure and pedicure today, and these are the colors I brough along with me.

on my toes is a MAC nail polish, the name escapes my mind right now.

[edit] thanks to Jennifer, it's Soiree!  :)

on my fingernails is a combination of Essie Topless & Barefoot with Kisses & Bises

    [Essie swatch entry HERE]

I have a couple more GA Eyes to Kill which I have yet to feature, but instead of just doing haul entry, I will only feature them when I finally got to using them in LOTDs.  Stay tuned!

    Thanks for looking!

LOTD: Armani Eyes to Kill Intense in No.4 Pulp Fiction

Armani Eyes to Kill Intense in 4, Pulp Fiction

steely cornflower (blue-purple) *as described by Karlasugar

It is amazing, I can't stop raving about the Eyes to Kill Intense eyeshadows.  They don't crease, they are multi-dimensional, the quality is great, lasts the entire day, I have nothing bad to say about it.  The packaging is awesome too, I like the fact that each pot comes with a little flat cap thingy which you can press back into the product to keep everything compact and smooth.  When I saw these, I was like to the heck with the powder eyeshadows... I got to grab them (even though I had no intention to buy any Armani eye products - was eyeing mainly the face and cheek products).

I didn't have to use any color base, and as you can see in the picture below, this ONE shade alone creates the look of the crease, shimmery lids, it adds depth, color and pop all at once.

Swatches and haul entry, click HERE, and HERE.

    Products used:

Foundation - Lancome Pro Base, Armani Lasting UV Foundation, La Mer Powder

    Lips - Nothing!!

Eyes - NARS Primer, Armani Eyes to Kill Intense #4, Heavy Rotation (??) liquid liner

    Blush - Benefit Bella Bimba

Haul & LOTD: Giorgio Armani Cosmetics

hi hi, I am pretty excited about this little haul entry.  Going to try out these products for the day...and if I like them.... I might go back for more.   I went to the Armani store at Charter House (at Central), in case you are wondering.   I will start with the LOTD, and the haul part with the product pictures at the second half of this entry.

This LOTD features all the Armani cosmetics I bought on Friday.  I would have gotten more, but it seems the stuff that I tried out were mostly OOS.  That was also the day they launch the Eyes to Kill Intense eyeshadows...and they are gorgeous!  I am using this product on its on (with NARS primer on the lids), and it really reminds of MUFE Aqua Cream, but more shimmery, equally pigmented and easy to blend.

    Products used:

Foundation - Lancome Pro Base, Lasting UV Foundation, La Mer Powder

Lips - Illamasqua Sonnet, topped with Maquillage PK715 Glossy Rouge

Eyes - NARS Primer, Armani Eyes to Kill Intense #3, Heavy Rotation (??) liquid liner

Blush - Armani Sheer Blush #5

And on to the product pictures!  The BA was helpful enough, not pushy, and readily tried products on my face, especially the base and blush products.  I am contemplating the pressed powder, and the lipstick ---- but I restrained myself, seeing as I just received/ hauled more than 10 lipsticks in the past 2 weeks alone. The main thing which I wanted to try is the Lasting UV foundation, and I was easily matched to shade #4.

In terms of prices, they aren't that expensive (as I had imagined, and also relatively speaking), comparable to NARS, Guerlain makeup in Hong Kong. Burberry makeup is a tiny bit cheaper.  The Jill Stuart blush is HKD340, while the Armani blush is HKD250, so you go figure.

The foundation is very smooth, and I dusted on some powder to set it as I will be out and about the whole day... but it feels and looks just fine on its own.  In terms of colour, it is also a perfect match for my fair neutral skintone.   The blush, I chose a dusty rose/pink colour, because...argh, the one I wanted and tried on was OOS.  What the heck, right?  After trying it, only to find out, almost every blush shade is OOS.   The cream eye shadow, I first dabbed on and spread over my lids with my fingers, and then went back to blend, pick up more products using a MAC 217 brush.  It is gorgeous smokey purpley sparkly gold color.  In love!!

That's all, and thanks for looking!
