About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

No ads, no paid links etc please.  I am in charge of all content and pictures here.

I am not a makeup artist, nor do I have any professional training in makeup.

Giveaway: Estee Lauder Travel Exclusive Palettes

    Hi everyone!

I haven't done a giveaway in ages, so here we go!  Recently I received a couple of Estee Lauder travel exclusive palettes from the Estee Lauder Travel Retail office, and rather than swatch and feature, I thought I would do a feature and giveaway instead.  I won't be swatching the palettes, so two lucky winners will be receiving these two gorgeous palettes in their pristine condition.

These Estee Lauder travel exclusive products are available at most travel retail outlets, so the next time you travel and fly out of your cities, do keep a lookout for them.  They are designed to be compact, and contains a range of colors to cover your makeup looks for your travel journeys.  And you get to try out and purchase these at duty free prices, that's another bonus!

Let's take a closer look at the palettes - and why you would love to own them!

Prize A - Ingenious Colour Palette with Detachable Compacts

This is an all in one palette, with a face powder, four lip colors, mascara, four eyeshadows and a powder blush.

Applicators are also included for easy usage on the go.

I like that the face compact powder and the lip palette has their own clear covers, so the palette remains sanitary and clean.

Prize B - Limited Edition Colours Lipstick & Eyeshadow Palette

This is a palette containing 5 lip colors and 5 eyeshadows, in a very compact palette.

It comes with a luxe velvet pouch that also holds 2 brushes for easy application.

How to take part in this giveaway:

I will keep it open for a week.  Closing date is 22 September 2012.

I will randomly pick 2 winners.

You can enter up to 3 times everyday.

Nails Story: Estee Lauder Pure Color Tempting Melon

    Hi hi!

Recently I can't seem to get enough of this type of peachy pinky coral color.  I used to think they aren't very flattering on me, and they probably look a little too girly for my liking.  But this color seems to be all the rage, and I think I got quite used to the shade, and start to 'appreciate' them on my fingernails.

I probably have 6 - 8 of the similar shades from a few brands...and I can do an overview eventually.  So if you want to see a comparison, I will do that soon.  The trick to looking for a wearable, easy on the eye kind of coral peachy shade is to pick one that doesn't have too much white pigments in it, you can probably tell very easily by the texture, and the undertones.  Also pick one that looks pinky and salmony in color.

And I think that Estee Lauder's Tempting Melon is a good example of a very wearable, flattering coral pinky shade.  Haven't heard anyone talk about this trendy shade from Estee Lauder... and if you are looking for one... I think you will love this color.

The formula is great, and the brush makes for a smooth and easy application.  I have only own one other Estee Lauder polish (in Blue Dahlia) so I can't comment on the lasting power..but it's nothing a good base and top coat can't solve. I am really enjoying this color on my fingernails now.  And I think I might want to try out more nailpolishes from Estee Lauder (especially their reds - super classy!).

    More pictures and swatches:

Hope this is helpful, and thank you for looking!

    Hi everyone

Just a quick sharing with you about Estee Lauder's special event that's going on at The Paragon Atrium from 24 - 29 July.  During this period, you will be treated to a series of makeovers and workshops, and find the look for you and your lifestyle.  I was there yesterday with Joey [JoeySpace] and checked out what's happening and waiting in store for those who signed up.

Lots of makeover stations, a special area for workshops, photoshot set up, and also a retail area - and lots more Estee Lauder customers getting themselves dolled up by the Estee Lauder makeup artists.  We didn't opt for the makeover, but we took a quick shot at the photoshoot area, and got a printout for each of us on the spot (after perhaps 15 minutes).

But anyway, in case you are making weekend plans, here are some details which you might find useful:

    the Makeover

Choose a look that suits your lifestyle, with professional hairstyling by Vive Hair Salon, and a 6R makeover shot of your new look by Picture Works

Registration cost $120 (fully redeemable for Estee Lauder products at the event)

    the Workshop

seats are limited - registration is $120, fully redeemable for Estee Lauder products at the event

    colors for your reference

from my thumb to little finger

    LOTD: Color Block Lips

    Hi!

Been wanting to do this forever, and finally got to it... I would actually and really wear this look out.

The color block lips - I think it is possible to make it wearable.. like I did here.  Keep both the shades equally bright, but complimenting.  You don't want a pale nude with a bright red.  And if halfway through you feel self-conscious about the two different colors, purse your lips together, and you get a new color that looks equally great.

Kept the eyes simple but rather defined, and rest of the face very clean and fresh.

    All products used listed below.

Foundation: LRP Cicaplast Pro Recovery Skincare,  Illamasqua Skinbase No4, La Mer Powder

Lips: Estee Lauder Wild Fire [bright orangey red], Chanel Rouge Allure Super [bright pink]

    Cheeks: Tarte Amazonian Clay Tipsy

Eyes: UDPP, MAC Dazzlelights, Two Faced Eyeshadow Palette Socialite [coppery brown] used all over the lids up to the crease

Liners & Mascara: MUFE Aqua Liner No12, Anna Sui Perfect Mascara on lower lids

    More pictures:

The Chanel color is very much washed out in the pictures.

That's all, and thanks for looking!
