About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

No ads, no paid links etc please.  I am in charge of all content and pictures here.

    Review: Clarins Extra Firming Foundation

Hi, this is an (overdue) review on the Clarins Extra Firming foundation.  I was wearing this foundation consistently everyday for about 2 to 3 weeks, but didn't get to properly talk about it til now.

For product information and prices, click THIS ENTRY.

I wear the shade Ivory 103, which you can see below:

And this is a picture of me wearing it this morning - it's not the best picture, early morning, harsh flash, but I will try to explain to you the effects of wearing the foundation.

Here are my thoughts during application:

    • The foundation smells GREAT, kind of fresh floral powdery.
    • In terms of coverage, I would say this is a medium coverage.  The texture of the foundation is smooth and creamy.
    • It blends nicely into my skin.  It takes a little while to settle into the skin.
    • I set the foundation with loose powder.
    • Overall finish is rather flawless, not thick, and it stays fresh throughout the day.  Not a flat out matte foundation, there is slight dewiness, not anything crazy shiny - I would say, luminious?  This is very useful, cos you want to look more awake than you really are in the morning.
    • Makes my skin look smooth too.
    • Oil control is so-so.  I have to blot a couple of times throughout the day to keep shine away.
    • I apply the foundation with my fingers most of the time.

And here is how I look like after about 10 hours - it's quite humid today.  No touching up, and I blotted ONCE.  I must say my face looks fresh than it actually appears in this picture.

    • Foundation lasts decent for me throughout the day.  I like it as a great everyday foundation.  It is not overly rich, did not break me out at all in the 2 - 3 weeks I was using it everyday.  I still use this most of the time, but I got distracted by other new foundations along the way.
    • Some parts which I concealed probably look worn off in the above pic, but that's the concealer, not the foundation problem.

Would I recommend this foundation?  Yes! Especially if you want a foundation which promises a natural skin firming effect as it contains oat sugars, and also a light reflecting one for skin luminising properties.

The foundation retails for S$55 each.

Hope you find this review helpful, and thanks for looking!

NEW: Clarins Extra Firming Foundation SPF15

Well, this is a foundation for slightly mature women.  You can never start too early as far as anti-aging is concerned.  I have started using the Dior Totale Capture, and now this is another foundation targeted at firming and improving the skin texture.

Clarins Laboratories have formulated Extra-Firming Foundation SPF 15 which is an exceptional, new foundation formulated with anti-ageing benefits to enhance the complexion and care for your skin.

    “Light-Optimizing+” complex

Wrinkles and fine lines are optically “erased”.

The soft focus effect is optimal due to the presence of microspheres that reflect light in all directions. This multitude of light reflections immediately creates a blur that optically “erases” imperfections.

    Unrivalled radiance

The refractive index of these microspheres is similar to that found naturally in skin. It captures, diffuses and magnifies light, delivering exceptional luminosity.

Oat sugars - for a natural skin-firming effect

Part of a new generation of tightening agents, oat sugars are extracted from the plant kernel. They help firm, smooth and define features without leaving skin feeling pulled or appearing frozen.

Day after day, features are refined and skin becomes firmer-looking.

The texture is light and creamy.  Both shades seem to suit my skin tone, but in the following face shot, I am wearing 103 Ivory.

First impressions: Medium buildable coverage.  Slightly dewy finish. Brightening luminous effect on my face.  If my skintone appears yellowish in the pic below, that's because I am facing the setting sun.

You know I am a big foundation junkie by now.  I will post more thoughts/ detailed review and/or application methods etc this coming weekend, and give you my 'verdict'.  This is going into my makeup tray for the week.

That's all, and thanks for looking!
