About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

    LOTD: Mainly Chanel

    Hi hi!

Decided to do a quick smokey eyes, that goes along with Chanel Glossimer in Sweet Beige (featured here).  I tried to keep everything to within Chanel...so here's what I ended up with.  I think it is quite a defined by natural enough smokey by my standards.  I have a pop of color on my nails, using Chanel's Suspicious (featured here).

Haven't used my Chanel Mystic Eyes in ages, so when my gf purchased this yesterday (or was it Friday?  The weekend zoomed past in a blur!) I got reminded of it.

Here are all the products I used:

Base - Chanel Sheer Illuminating Base, Chanel Perfection Lumiere (used a mix of 10 and 20 Beige), Chanel Loose Powder (the regular one, not the ultra fine one - this is one of my all time fave loose powder)

Cheeks & Bronzer - Chanel Bronze Rose (one of my most fave cheek color product, released 2011 Summer)

Eyes - NARS eyeshadow primer, Chanel Mystic Eyes quad (darkest shade on my lids, medium brown shade to blend, and the lightest pink as brow highlight), NARS Larger than Life pencil in Via Venetto

Lips - Chanel Glossimier Sweet Beige

    Nails - Chanel Suspicious

This is one of the rare times you see me lining my lower waterline...and the trick is not to line all the way into your inner corners...for my eyes that is.  So that you won't end up making your eyes look smaller, and also avoid any kind of dirty messy situation at the inner corner of your eyes. I tried to smudge the lower line with the darkest brown from the Mystic Eyes Quad.

Overall, a rather 'fall' look, and I tried to cosy up by wrapping a light skull print skull (current season, Zara).  Can't believe it is August already!

I had a lovely lovely weekend (that probably started since Thursday) hanging out with a lot of my beloved friends and family.  Lots of dinner, shopping, and caught the Dark Knight at the IMAX theatre last night.  It was awesome, and everyoe should go and watch.   Looking forward to a short week this coming one, and also get more blog entries out while I take a break.

Hope you enjoy the look, and thanks for reading!

Chanel Fall 2012 Vernis: Frenzy, Vertigo & Suspicious [Photos & Swatches]

    Hi!

This entry will feature all the Chanel Fall 2012 vernis, I bought all 3 of them - the colors were too yummy to pass up.  There is Frenzy - nude grey, Suspicious - bright pop of deep reddish pink and Vertigo - dark sooty purpley brown.  I won't be doing any comparison swatches in this entry, but I have paired each shade with the Chanel Mat Velvet topcoat for some variety.

Firstly, we have Frenzy - you are looking at 3 even coats for full creamy opaqcity.

This is natural glossiness, without any topcoat.

    with matte topcoat

I love the muted matte look.

    Vertigo, with topcoat

2 even coats for full color payoff.

The shimmer and sheen in this is very subtle, so it looks almost just like a purpley black brown shade.

I am thinking it looks like a darker version of Paradoxal (I should have painted Paradoxal next to Vertigo...but oh well).

    without topcoat

    Vertigo - matte

Suspicious is really a deep reddish fuschia, but it is looking a little warmer (more red) in my pictures

You can get away with one coat if you are in a hurry, but I painted 2 even coats.

I didn't use a topcoat, but after Seche Vite, it is very glossy and ultra smooth.

and with the matte topcoat - looks like of like marzipan.

My fave would be Frenzy, followed by Suspicious.

Which of these shades have you picked up?

Hope these swatches have been helpful.  Thanks for looking!

Chanel Fall 2012 - Glossimer 297 Sweet Beige [Photos & Swatches]

One of the items I bought from Chanel Fall 2012, the glossimer in Sweet Beige (I blame it to the 20% off at Metro that got me feeling just a bit more impulsive).... but anyway, it is a really pretty shimmery nude gloss that is quite intensely pigmented.   Chanel glosses are not sticky, and the shimmer bits are just quite gorgeous..across the whole color range.  It is nice to keep a couple in your collection, because they are really quite fine in quality, and contains abit of product given the price you pay for them.

    Lip Swatch

And here's how it looks like as a whole look.

More details on this look in a later entry if you are keen on what products I used (mostly Chanel).

Highly recommend you getting Sweet Beige~

That's all, and thanks for reading!

Chanel Fall 2012 - My Top Picks

    Hi!

Just want to quickly share my top picks for Chanel Fall 2012.  Detailed swatches and thoughts will be followed in later entries this week.  I think this is my first major Chanel haul this year.  I skipped on most of the Chanel collections earlier this year (notably Spring and Summer) but the Fall collection really got me.  I knew I wanted all three of the vernis.... especially Frenzy ever since I set eyes on it from the runway shows.

I quickly swatched them last night, Suspicious and Vertigo are opaque creamy almost one coater, while Frenzy takes 2 even coats, or even 3 if you want it to look very intense (as intense as this soft pale nudey grey can be).

I also impulsively picked up the Glossimer in 297 Sweet Beige, it is beautifully creamy and opaque and the shimmers in it, are just too gorgeous.

    A quickie lip swatch.

It is very wearable, and I love it!

Metro is still having a 20% off storewide today (Saturday 4 August 2012), so go out and GRAB them now.

The new single eyeshadows are super pretty, and the quality is awesome, but I can't justify any more eyeshadow purchases.

The quad (premier regard?) and Rose Initiale blush are both skippable in my opinion.

I hope this is useful, and thanks for looking!
