FAQ & DISCLAIMER

About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

    December Faves

Ok, I know this is kind of early, but I think nothing much is going to change in the next few days, and we know how hectic it is going to be with all the year end stuff to do... so I shall get this up first.

For the most part of December, I had my lash extensions, and hence in the eyeshadow aspect, I wasn't very adventurous though there was sooooo many new products which were acquired this month alone from all over the place --- cos it was all about the lashes, baby~  haha.  So, it is not surprising that my Dec faves consist mainly of face products, cos suddenly (or maybe I should say it has been a long time desire) the foundation is all important.  I was spending time on achieving/ faking a flawless complexion (touching up all the spots with concealers, using primer to cover pores, etc etc).  So in the process, I re-discovered old products, and also bought new ones.

These are stuff which I am loving this month.

    • MUFE HD Powder *got this so long ago, I don't use it enough, but these days, I just dust this lightly over my face just before I leave the house.
    • MAC Studio Finish Concealer NC20 - mine is super old, and more than half gone, and I have not used it since I got my Studio Sculpt concealer, which I also love.  Just that I popped this into my bag the other day for touch ups, and I realised I forgot how effective this is.
    • Essence of Beauty foundation/ concealer brush - I am sure many of you ladies also have this brush as part of the set.  Seriously, even if I have to pay $19.90 for this brush alone, it is all WORTH IT.  I lurve both the ends of this brush for concealer and foundation.  Not streaky, and blends foundation and concealers well.
    • Gosh Darling 134 lipstick - nice creamy nude lipstick. Doesn't make me look washed out, and not too beigy.  Enough said.  :)
    • Spoolie brush - I got this in a pack of 5 or 6 from 'Chameleon'  (sp?) -  cos this is so good for combing my lash extensions~
    • And you know this is coming --- RMK Creamy Base -- I am recommending this to everyone I meet.

I am also loving my Shu Uemura face architect foundation, forgot to include it in the picture.

I rotate among too many blushers to name a fave for this month.

    What are your Dec faves?

September Faves & my red red lips!

This is my Sept faves entry.  Actually I have been good this month.  I didn't haul much at all. Except for the Shu Uemura Foundation and Mario Bedascu drying mask (overdue review I know!).  Today is the 2nd of OCT.... and well.. my next entry will be a little haul from the latest MAC collections. Keep a lookout!

I apply my foundation with my fingers these days, it is just faster, and I feel like it goes into my skin better.  And I have also started using the Beauty Blender with my Shu Uemura cream foundation (which is even better than the Essence of Beauty brush which I showed before).

In terms of eye products, I just sweep one color all over the lids and a neutral color and line my eyes.  That's all.  The neutral color is usually All That Glitters, or Tempting, or Style Snob, or Satin Taupe, or Nars Mekong if I want a deeper look for the day.

Ok, so here are my faves:

NARS Laguna Bronzer (I apply this with the Coastal Scents huge paddle brush for all over glow and a bit of contouring around the cheeks)

MAC Studio Sculpt NC20 Concealer (so creamy and thick, loves)

MAC Dirty Plum blusher (looks purple, but goes on so pretty and more pink)

Loreal Super Liner (this is my HG liquid liner, always my fave but I just opened a new tube lately and have been using it everyday)

Essence of Beauty foundation/concealer duo brush (love this to apply my concealer, and the larger end just to clean up my face, blend, etc etc etc)

MAC 116 brush (love love love this for my blushers!)

So what are your faves this month??

    Red Lips Alert!

Went out the other day with my aunt and cousin, and she (my aunt) always wear red lipsticks.  Just for the heck of it, I borrowed her red lippy (didn't notice the brand or name), and smeared some over my lips and walked about the mall.  I felt like a clown.  LOL.  But it's kind of cute.  So here is a ridiculous picture of me with the red lipstick, red shades I was trying on at the mall, and my own shades hanging on my shirt.  Haha.  So what do you think of red lips on me?

    Red Lips: Yay or nay?

And yes, that's my bro in the background, looking quite bemused.

That's all, and thanks for reading!!

Essence of Beauty Brush Set & Maybelline Pore Zero Base

    HI!

I bought these sometime last week and never got to post them like a little haul entry, so here they are:

And nope, I have not used them yet.

I got the brush set from magicaltannsu.com -- click here to check out other goodies from her store.  Click here to find the specific place in her blog to buy the brush set.

Diana and icyabstract bought the same brush sets too.

And I happened to be at Expo for a lecture when I realised it was the first day of the JL expo sale.. bumped into my sister there! But boo, she says no staff discount.. but the savings are already good enough. So I picked the Maybelline Angelfit Pore Zero Base With spf25.  Think I have swatched it at a Watsons before.. but the price kind of put me off (usual price $19.90) but I got it at the expo for about $12.  So... that made it easier for me to just grab and go.

Since I have not used any of these items.... that ends this very quick little haul entry.

    Thanks for reading!!
