About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. The haul that took 2 months

HI everyone! I am super excited now.

*You may want to skip the following LONG story.*  but the short story is my nail polish haul finally arrived.

Sometime in March, I ordered 9 bottles of nail polish from ebay, a power seller at that.  Each bottle, plus shipping cost me an average of $5.50 each.  Which isn't cheap, but I can't get them in Singapore, and the OPI colours usually cost way more than $5.50 each.  (All $$ in US dollars btw) But I waited more than a month, and the package never arrived.  i refrained from leaving negative feedback as I was somehow very sure the seller did ship the package.  It was more likely that the package somehow got lost in the mail.  Or whatever.  But I contacted the seller 3 times, and I never got any reply.  Til one fine day, 2 weeks back, I left negative feedback on every single item which I didn't receive.  Which means she/he got 9 negative feedback.  That was my last resort, and I was prepared to never get my items ever.

But that finally got a reaction from the seller, who contacted me almost immediately, and appealing for me to retract my feedback.  My response was unless I received my refund OR have the items re-shipped and I receive them, I would not retract.  And lo and behold, they all arrived this evening.  I am happy.  I will, of course, now have to contact the seller again, and try to retract the negative feedback.  Gosh.

I also ordered another bunch of nail polish at transdesign.com (recommended by the lovely Misschievous), and  am expecting another nail polish haul in the next 10 days.

    END OF STORY.

Now for the pictures.  Since I have already applied nail polish, I swatched them on my little sister's fingernails, no base, no topcoat, just 2 coats quickly applied.

    1. China Glaze For Audrey    ---  I will do an overview of all these peppermint, pastel teal colors soon.

    2. OPI You Blue My Mind   --- I will also compare all the metallic blues in my collection. (Chanel Blue Satin, MAC Naughty Nauticals)

    3. China Glaze Devotion  --- Purplish Silver Metallic colour

    4. Orly ---Charged Up

    5. China Glaze --- Grape Juice

    6. OPI --- Do you Lilac it *** again I will do an overview of all my Lavender nail polishes.  Right now this looks like MAC Rose Romance Love & Friendship nail lacquer.

Grape Juice is from CG's Summer Collection, Purple with Silver Glitter.  I also ordered a couple of colors from this collection in my transdesign haul coming on the way.

Do you Lilac it is slightly darker than Done out in Deco.  Will show some comparisions soon.

Charged up -- Purple blue shade.  I like the cream finish.  And this reminds me of Essie's Mesmerise.

    7. China Glaze --- Cashmere Creme

    8. OPI --- You Tickle my France-y  *** Watch out for my overview of nude nail polish colours.

    9. OPI - Malanga Wine ** This is my 3rd or 4th bottle.  Most classic red. ever.

Cashmere Creme - looks blah in the bottle, but is a nice shimmery nude shade.  Like a very pretty lipgloss color.

This is from the OPI France collection last year, I already have You Don't Know Jaques and Parlez Vouz OPI.

Some of the pictures are quite blur, and I do apologise.  I will post more nail stories and reviews over the weekend.

    Thanks for reading!!

Haha. Fierce indeed, nobody messes with my hauling. Serious though.... only if the situation calls for some extreme measures.... otherwise I would much prefer to resolve issues amicably.

Good for you! I would retract those comments but don't be too kind if you write something else up. She shouldn't have been so non-responsive and hard to deal with. Well, marvelous haul. Very cool! Smiling

I'd be honest and say you got it eventually... but do say how long it took before you got them... If it had happened before and you'd known... you'd have chosen another seller.

I can't wait for the blogs about these polishes!!

    5/19/09

CCee - have never bought from this seller before... and I guess despite all that waiting, I believe it was a fluke.... and doesn't mean the seller is bad, after all, he/she has 100% positive feedback b4 I left my negative ones. Smiling

I have never paid $26 for OPI in Sg even at the salons. That was definitely a rip off, but at least you love the color. Smiling
