About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

LOTD: Lancome Color Design Palette Bronze Armour

    Hi hi!

Currently totally admiring and loving this metallic bronze eyeshadow palette which my gf Jolyn gifted me sometime ago.  Glad that I finally pulled it out to play with, the quality is simplying amazing, and I love all the shades in the palette, and how they work so well together.

This is the Lancome Color Design Palette in Bronze Armour - which I believe is a US edition palette (shame, right?  Because I think our local editions of the Lancome eyeshadow palettes just somehow lack the pow-wow factor).

In my LOTD, I used all the shadows as labelled in the following picture:

1 - The pale peachy shade all over my lids

2 - The warm amber shade on my lids

3 - Medium bronze to blend into the crease

4 - Pale champagne shade which I dabbed lightly just under my brow bone

5 - Dark brown which contains multi-color shimmer bits, it is brilliant and I used it to define my eyes

A close up of the sparkly and metallic goodness -

Swatches - no base - awesome, right??

A close up of the eye look, I didn't go crazy with the crease color and the outer darker corners - which I would have done if I wanted a more smokey look - but I was going out for a work meeting (on a Saturday! Horrors) and I didn't want to dazzle work people with my makeup..but hey, it's a Saturday!  I did apply a black liquid liner closer to the roots of my lashes, to help the falsies blend in.

And the overall look - love the warm golden brown on the lids, and the colors all work so well together.

    All products used:

Face - Lancome Regenerie CC Cream, Lancome Teint Miracle Cream foundation, Lancome Teint Miracle Loose Powder

    Concealer - Laura Mericer SC-03

Lips - Lancome L'Absolu Nu 311 (deep red, 2 layers and dabbed off excess)

Cheeks - MUFE Mat Bronzer, Lancome Blush Highlighter, MAC Cheeky Bronze MSF

Brows - Shu Uemura pencil, brow manicure

Eyes - NARS primer, Lancome Color Design Palette Bronze Amour 101 (color placement refer to pictures above, I followed the guide as shown)

Lashes - Katy Perry Eyelure 'oh so honey' and Lancome Hynose Star mascara lower lashes

Thanks Jolyn for giving me the palette!  LOVES!!

    Thanks for reading!

YSL Spring Look 2013: La Laque Couture 35 Bronze Pyrite

    Hi hi!

Today I am sharing with you one of the two polishes which will be released with YSL's Spring 2013 collection (the collection is due out early Feb at their ION store, and maybe a week later at Tangs Orchard).

Bronze Pyrite is a very metallic pale olive shade (why it's called bronze, I am not sure) but it certainly has the pyrite element - a search on google image on 'pyrite' yielded pictures of similar hued mineral substances.  Which is part of the inspiration for this collection - featured earlier in this entry.   It is a pretty unique shade in my stash, leaning in between silver and olive.   It also looks slightly different under different lighting situations, at times it's really pale and metallic, and when indoors, the shade becomes richer, and more dimensional.

The consistency is perfect, it is opaque in one coat - which is a good thing when these very foiled metallic polishes are concerned.  The paddle shaped brush allows for a very self-leveling application, and the brush strokes are not very visible when viewed from a distance.

This is another set of pic I took on a different day, it was cloudier and the color looks more olive-y and has a slight green tinge.

Just to compare another YSL 'Bronze' shade nailpolish - Bronze Aztec - which is way darker, and contains multi-color shimmer.  Both shades are just gorgeous, and the formula is impressive.

I am very happy with my YSL polishes, and I definitely see myself picking up Jade Imperial when the collection launches.

Hope this review and swatches have been helpful, thanks for looking!

    Jindie Nails "Live out Loud"

    Hi hi!

This entry features an indie nail polish brand, hand crafted and imported from USA.  You can purchase Jindie Nails polishes from Meimei Signatures (click here!).  The shade I have here is called Live out Loud - and I love the white based glitter polish, having seen similar ones from many girls I follow on Instagram.  The formula on this is very smooth and creamy - it is rather opaque in two coats, but if you want it very white, I suggest painting a thin coat of white followed by two coats of the polish itself.  However, I do like the milky creamy look of just two coats on its own.

Love the color combination of the glitter bits, they apply and distribute very evenly, I didn't have to work too much to 'arrange' and make sure that the glitters are evenly spread out on the nails.  And the white base did not cover the colors of the glitter bits, which is a good thing.   It is such a playful and cute combination, and definitely something different.  I think there are a couple of other white based glitter polishes from Jindie Nails.

FYI - The full sized bottles contain the usual 15ml of product, and retail for S$15 (inclusive normal shipping) - the tiny bottle you see here is a sample sent to me for review.

    and one more shot:

That's all I have for this entry, thank you for reading!
