About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

No ads, no paid links etc please.  I am in charge of all content and pictures here.

I am not a makeup artist, nor do I have any professional training in makeup.

NEW Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup [Preview & All Swatches]

Last week, a few of us got the chance to preview the new Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup at a classy and intimate press eventneedless to say, there was an air of anticipation for this special preview, and we were not disappointed.  Hosted in a scenic getaway villa at Capella, we were wowed by an afternoon of GA elegance, luxurious setting and treated to new GA products which will be launched later this year for Fall 2012 and Holiday 2012.
The star of the event is the Maestro Fusion Makeup - a new revoluntionary foundation (click here for the official information).  There was a makeup demonstration by a GA Spokesperson, followed by some informal discussion about what women are looking for in foundation (and makeup in general) and finally of course, time to test out the makeup products, and mingle with the other invited guests.
Here are some shots of the makeup demonstration - we could see how the foundation blends into the model's face like second skin, it doesn't look like she has anything on her face after application, but yet there is a subtle change, a radiance and a glow that wasn't noticeable before.  The GA spokesperson used fingers to blend the product into her skin seamlessly and evenly.
Here are the end results, the eyes are kept quite natural, but a soft smokey look that goes with the flawless skin (no setting powder was used).  This is followed by slight cheek contouring (using a taupe eyeshadow mixed with the foundation itself, and blended into the sides of the face with the hands).  A bright pop of color on her lips (this range of 'matte' glosses will be released only early next year) to complete the effortlessly chic look.  Me likey.
Beautiful GA makeup all lined out on the central table in the room.
This range of special edition glosses will be released next year.
The texture is divine and the colors are all gorgeous.
It feels like the texture of the Face Fabric which I have reviewed here.
    A matte intense gloss.
I fell in love with a few of the shades.
    and eyeshadow palettes
and finally, the swatches you have been waiting for.
We were told 8 shades would be available for the Asian market.

I swatched every shade on display at the event.  (One shade, 5.5 seems to be missing)
Quite a few of us were matched to shade #4, which is a light neutral shade.
Because the foundation is so adaptable and blends into your skintone, we all were able to wear the same shade.
I am also #4 in my other GA foundations, in case you are wondering.
and one last shot, taken outdoors (by the lovely pool!)
The Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup will be released Oct 2012.
I will be doing a detailed review and feature closer to the launch date after using it for a length of time.
Also watch out for a few GA LOTDs in the coming weeks, featuring several other products which I received during the press event.
    Very excited.  :)
Hope this sharing has been helpful, and thank you for reading.

NEW Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup [Photos & Information]

    Fusion Makeup SPF 15

    Weightless perfection More than foundation

Ten years ago, Giorgio Armani changed the face of make-up creating Luminous Silk foundation, a lightweight, silky fluid that brings a natural glow. Since then, weightless textures that you can blend and layer indefinitely to enhance your radiance became the signature Armani Glow.

The expectations of women have always been at the heart of Giorgio Armani Beauty Research. The quest for transparency and coverage in a foundation seemed up until now practically unsolvable.

In 2012, after eight years of research, Giorgio Armani Cosmetics introduces a new revolutionary foundation.

    More than foundation

An unforgettable and unique texture created by patented Fusion Technology. An ultra-fine oil-pigment suspension that perfects the complexion.

This high slip fluid spreads evenly over skin for a blendable, faultless complexion worthy of a professional make-up artist every time. Maestro instantly ignites skin’s natural luminosity. No make-up feel guaranteed.

“It’s a whole new generation of foundation that feels incredible, looks invisible and makes skin appear luminous every time. Anyone can wear it!!!”. (Linda Cantello, International Make-up Artist for Giorgio Armani Cosmetics)

Fusion make-up Breaking the rules of formulation

The creation of a blendable ultra-thin oil-pigment suspension

Traditional foundations are usually emulsions with water in oil containing fillers; those fillers can produce a visible masking effect. Maestro was created with five out-of-the box principles, delivering a result never seen before:
    – a water and powder-free base

    – totally non-comodogenic
    – 5 time-released oils evaporating gradually
    – smart pigment technology
    – an easy, fast, fresh and flawless application with an unforgettable sensory feel

The Fusion make-up technology delivers the thinnest color film that blends perfectly and corrects skin imperfections without buildup.

5 oils, an exceptional selection – the perfect alchemy

Oils are necessary for pigments to spread on the skin surface.
Giorgio Armani Cosmetics evaluated the different oils on the criteria of density, volatility, nutrition and blending.

Five volatile, semi-volatile and non-volatile oils have been selected one-by-one to create a precious clear mixture totally miscible presenting a time release action. Evaporating at different rates it provides an optimal combination of application slip and non-greasy feel, but with a moisture and comfort sensation all day long. The volatile “dry-oil” awakens skin with an immediate feeling of freshness, a cushiony oil provides a featherlight, glide-on textural sensation and a perfectly even distribution of the complexion perfecting pigments film.

The non-volatile complex, including extracts of the lotus oil, which has anti-free radical properties and hydrating agents, remains on skin surface.

    Maestro vs. traditional foundation

    Characteristics of a traditional foundation:

    – emulsion – 20% water in 80% oil. Foundation allows for a unified spreading

of the fluid in order to avoid spots of color. BUT:

    – highly pigmented: 15% pigments. Pigments are contained in powdery phase that can create a mask effect.

    Characteristics of Maestro:

    • –  waterfree oils: 60% time-release translucent, non greasy oils for a fresh feel,

      a non-greasy finish and a pure color.

    • –  11% pigments for skin tone perfection. No powder so no mask effect.

    • –  low surface tension: for the fastest, easiest application.

      Extras:

skin surface perfection due to soft particles selected to provide the thinnest

correcting film and an extraordinary sensory feel.

    Observation on an electronic microscope

Fine lines and blemishes blur away in a bare-faced luminosity.

    Tested and approved by women

Blends into skin on application: 100%*
Easy to wear, you forget that you are wearing make-up: 100%*
Easy to apply, gives rapid and perfect make-up result every time: 98%* It’s a pleasure to use this make-up product: 95%*
    Natural make-up result without make-up feel: 95%*

    Drop-by-drop application Made-to-measure coverage

An elliptical shaped bottle and luxurious, black lacquered dropper delivers the fusion make-up drop by drop for custom-controlled make-up application. The liquid, ultra-fine texture immediately blends into the skin on application.

Easy to apply, easy to build, easy to wear. Maestro gives rapid and perfect make-up results every time.

Smart pigment technology with faultproof color result

Just a few shades to fit all skin tones

The Maestro foundation is adapted to all skin tones around the world. The smart pigments are so fine that they fuse with the natural skin color. They are so fine and pure, that the rays of light will not be absorbed on the skin but there is a reflexion of the light, a perfect 360 degrees radiance. It might seem paradoxical that only a few shades are enough to cover the full range of skin tones but it becomes possible with the transparency of Maestro formula.

12 shades are available in USA and 9 in the rest of the world.

A new foundation as light as water, but waterless and perfectly homogeneous for no make-up feel and a moisture sensation.

The Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup will be launched at DFS Galleria in Oct 2012.  Prices are unavailable as of now.

My next entry will be swatches of this beautiful foundation, and sneak peaks of the preview event we attended last week.
