About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

Dior 3 Couleurs Glow 651 Nude Glow [Photos, Swatches & LOTD]

    Hi hi,

this entry features the Dior 3 Couleurs Glow 651 Nude Glow, an eyeshadow trio which will be released with Dior's Fall 2012 makeup collection - for information on the collection, please click on this entry here here here

If you aren't aware, the 3 Couleurs were only released a couple of years back, if I am not wrong, and these have a very nifty way of opening up the palette.  You slide open the cover, and a mirror slides up, and you see the three colours - 2 main colors, and a liner shade. This is quite handy, and the picture below shows the size difference between the trio and the quint.

651 Nude Glow is a very pale peachy nude palette, with a matte black liner shade.

Here is the product description and how to apply it -- and I followed the steps in my LOTD:

Within the exclusive 3 couleurs glow sliding case lies the secret to naturally luminous, dramatic and couture eyes.  In 3 easy steps, our 3 new-generation fusion formula enhance your eyes with nude or pastel shades, a highlighter and a liner to define them.

    - a satiny nude or pastel EYESHADOW with an ultra-fine texture melts into the skin.  Apply to eyelid and blend.

    - a HIGHLIGHTER shade with a wet-look finish illuminates the eyes.  Dab on the center of the eyelid and the inner and outer corners of the eye.

    - A powder LINER is applied to the upper lash line to define the eyes and create the ultimate fashion touch.

    swatches without any primer

and I also swatched the liner wet and dry

the liner looks darker then it is applied wet

The lid color is quite soft, and pigment.

The highlighter shade is a very fine and shimmery shade, that sparkles without having much of a base colour.

This is be used as a layering shade to add some texture/ sparkle as I have done in my LOTD.

close up of the liner shade

I swatched using the pointed sponged tip applicator that comes in the palette

and my LOTD using mainly Dior products

    all will be listed below...

base - DIORSNOW UV Shield BB Cream, DIORSNOW Instant Spot Concealer (which I used under my eyes to highlight the area) I didn't have to do much spot concealing -- YAY!   then I set with Lancome dual finish powder compact

cheeks - DIORSKIN Nude Tan 001 Aurora, DIOR Rosy Glow 001 Petal

brows - Shu Uemura pencil, Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper

lips - DIOR Addict Extreme 326 Incognito

eyes - NARS primer, DIOR 3 Couleurs Glow 651 Nude Glow

lashes - Clinique lower lash mascara, TW All Belle Falsies

    nails - DIOR 605 Amazonia

eyelook close up - the lid shade is very natural, and just added a little color to my lids without being too loud, or like I am wearing eyeshadow...like the name states, it's a NUDE GLOW..

it was very hot, and I was erm...sweating..so I prolly look a little /glowier than usual...but quite nice IMO..nonetheless.

Fall collections are all streaming in, and I can't wait to see what's coming our way in the coming months ahead!

what are you going to pick up from this collection?

    Thank you for reading!

    Chains, Studs & Spikes

    Hi hi!

This is a little collective haul of some very very affordable accessories I had purchased from Forever 21, and a hairband that I bought from TW.   I like to browse Forever 21 accessories, and I tend to only go for their bangles.. and lately they have lots of neon, studs and spikes stuff which I like - and best of all, they are really cheap.. and I can just grab and wear without any guilt...and besides if you pick the right pieces, they hold up very well together with my other armcandy too.

This set is the latest couple of bangles I bought at F21, over the weekend, they had 20% off all bangles... so yup, I think one is $11 and the other is $19.  Super spikey and sharp!  And the other one is just a really nice combo of bling, gold and giant studs.

And then we have this trio of oxidised silver round bangles - which are a bit big for my wrist and so they make a lot of clinking and clanking when I move my hands.   But I like the mini studs..and they make for good layering too.

This is actually a necklace... that I saw on a mannequin, and I hunted it down in the store..and I think it would make a good layered bracelet by itself, if I wear it two times around the wrist.  This is $13 if I remember correctly.  I like the combination of silver, black and hot pink.  And the chain doesn't scratch my skin, and it's actually quite comfy to wear, albeit a bit heavy.

And lastly, this is a hairband I bought in TW, and I think it costs me about $10-12.  Now I wish I have gotten a couple more in other colours.  It has little studs, and together with the black slim band, looks so sleek, and if I pouff up my hair a bit, and put on this hairband... hmmm.  Feminine yet quite a statement - I think so anyway.

Here's how it roughly looks like on my hair... just colored it recently, so it's super glossy jet blue black.  There is a lamp in the corner of the pic, where it shines on my head, and makes my hair look 'greenish'...ah well.

Of course, I won't wear ALL of these together... the trick is to keep a fancy variety of styles, and not to overdo EVERY part of your accessories.  If I am wearing an armful of wristcandy, I would totally skip the hairband, or wear a simpler outfit, carry a monotone bag...you get the drift.  :)

That's all, and hope you enjoyed this entry.  Thanks for looking!

July 2012 Bellabox - Around the World!

    Hi!

It's time for Bellabox again, and July's box is a selection of beauty products from across the globe.  There is also a little bit of neon, and a little gift (which you can see, that lipstick which is actually a pen).  3 lucky subscribers will actually stand to receive a T&Co. gift inside their box.  I was so impressed with June's box, so I am very curious to see what this month's box brings.

There is a slight change in BB's delivery system - they have switched from Singpost to a courier service - my box came on a Sunday, and I must have been napping at home (and I was definitely at home), for I wasn't aware that the delivery had arrived, and I only found the delivery slip at my door on Monday morning.  I quickly called for a re-delivery, and my box came on Monday evening.  So that was all quite efficient, in my experience at least.

Let's take a look at what's inside the box:

(I think some subcribers should be receiving the L'egere Healthy Facial Treatment Skin Conditioner, and the Platinum Hologram Illuminating Hydro Cream Base - but I got this pair of Organix shampoo & conditioner)

Organix Brazilian Keratin Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner

    LONDON - Jimmy Choo Fragrance

A floral fruity combination of green top notes with tea rose, exotic Tiger Orchid, and Cedarwood.  The EDP is more sensual adding sweet Italian Orange and Indonesian Patchouli to this elixir.

    CALIFORNIA - Twistbands

I like the Twistbands - picked a couple up myself in the BB afterwork gathering - I do find them to be gentle on my hair, and yet it doesn't look too shabby.  A set of 3 goes for $6.50.

    JAPAN - SK-II

For more than 30 years, SK-II has brought many women new, breakthrough technology and product innovation that have been widely acclaimed in Asia and around the world. This is a sampler set consisting of:

    Facial treatment gentle cleanser

    Cellumination Mask-in Lotion

    Facial Treatment Essence

    Cellumination Deep Surge

KOREA - Skinmiso Pore Beauty Nose Pack

This mask will help you get rid of black and whiteheads in the comfort of your own home.  With a simple 3 step process you can reveal perfect skin and help ensure it stays that way.

    BONUS - Bellabox Lipstick Pen

    I love this!!

And the vouchers and information sheets:

July's box offers everything a little bit of everything in terms of skincare, it is not of the same bumper quality, but I think the T&Co. surprise got everyone quite excited, and looking forward to this month's delivery.  Among this set of products, I am most curious to try out the shampoo and conditioner...cos there's so much rave online about the whole Keratin/ Brazilian blowout treatment... hoping the hairproducts would keep my locks sleek and healthy too.

The Bellabox team also enclosed this picture of us goofing about at the afterwork event a couple of weeks ago - which is really thoughtful:
