About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

No ads, no paid links etc please.  I am in charge of all content and pictures here.

I am not a makeup artist, nor do I have any professional training in makeup.

NARS Purple Rain Nail Polish [Swatches & Comparisons]

I purchased NARS Purple Rain in TW, and it is a gorgeous metallic rich purple, that leans slightly warmer, but yet not a plum shade.  You will see that, in the comparison pictures, I can't seem to get enough of this type of color.

The consistency on this polish is awesome, it is almost a one-coater (like most of my NARS polishes, actually) and it is super smooth.  The multi-color shimmer is quite visible, even in the shade.  This color is very flattering on my skintone, and I love this both on my fingers and toes.

I seem to be posting nothing but nail polish entries lately....and I have plenty of makeup stuff to showcase, but at the moment, I am in the mood to play around with my new colors.  I haven't been wearing makeup very often lately, and so photo opportunities are harder to come by.  But we will get them up soon!

Here you can see the shimmers bits...it's gorgeous.

    comparisons

it is very very close to Illamasqua Baptiste (which is just a tiny bit cooler in toned) I would say they are 95% match!

That's all, and hope this is useful!

    Thank you for reading!

Dior Fall 2012 Vernis 615 Bengale & 605 Amazonia [Comparisons]

    Hi hi,

I have decided to compare both the Dior polishes which I showcased in this entry, to the Chanel Les Khaki collection from 2010.  They aren't by any means dupes, but if you want some see some shade differences within the same color family, or if you own the Chanel collection, this might be helpful in helping you with your future purchase.

I also compared the duo to a couple of other nail polishes.

Dior Bengale VS Chanel Khaki Rose & Khaki Brun

Bengale is the deepest true brown, it doesn't have that milky hue that is seen in Khaki Rose and Mink Muffs.

    another shot, in the shade

    Amazonia vs other 'jungle' green

put these shades together, and you have army uniform.  hehe.

I hope these swatches have been helpful, and thanks for reading!

Introducing Godfrey Gao as the Face for SK-II MEN

Sharing with you pictures which were taken during the regional press launch we attended on Friday.  All photo credits in this entry belongs to my brother whom I brought along to the event.  He will help me to review and share his thoughts on the whole line!

As many of you would know by now, Godfrey Gao, the model/ TV has been unveiled as the face for SK-II MEN range, which consists of 3 items, including the brand's iconic facial treatment essence.  But I shall share information on the products in a later entry.  Here, I just want to share the pictures which were taken during the event (read: lots of eye candy pictures..hur hur).

My only regret is that we didn't get to take a picture with him.  He was whisked off very quickly after appearing for barely 20 minutes at Avalon, where the event was held.  Other than that, it was an enjoyable evening out with several of us who attended, catching up with one another over dinner.

    Hope you enjoy these pictures!

    we got there around 7pm

the arrival of GG, swoon time!

GG sharing with the audience his SK-II experience

He speaks impeccable English.  Pardon me, because prior to this event, I had no idea who he is.

at 195cm tall, he really has this commanding presence on stage.

his dimples, and that beard shadow don't hurt either.

    le sigh.

SK-II Men consists of 3 products at the moment,

a very fuss free routine for the men

    Edited (update)

    Information on the man himself:

Underscoring this new philosophy that skin is the new measure of a man is Asia’s first male supermodel, Godfrey Gao, whose skin and life transformation personifies the very core of SK-II MEN.

A household name in Taiwan, Godfrey is known for his stellar performances in popular Taiwanese dramas such as Volleyball Lover (2010) and Momo Love (2009) and rose to international stardom after being selected to front Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2011 Ready-to-Wear campaign, joining an elite group of Asian models who are making waves on the global fashion scene.  Today, he has added one more accolade to his portfolio with his newest role as the SK-II MEN ambassador, empowering both men and women around the world with his unique relationship with SK-II.

Godfrey made a grand entrance at the SK-II MEN launch to much anticipation and applause, unveiling the iconic Facial Treatment Essence – the secret to his vibrant clear skin.

“Before SK-II MEN, good grooming was always part of my career because I knew the difference it made to my line of work.  But after my experience with SK-II MEN, I found that my skin achieved a level of vibrancy and clarity that I had never seen before. SK-II MEN has not only transformed my skin, it has also given me a new confidence at work and in my social and personal life,” related Godfrey when interviewed on his experience with SK-II MEN.

    Hope you enjoyed the pics!

I shall follow up with a more erm... informative entry later this week!

    Thanks for reading!  :)
