About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

No ads, no paid links etc please.  I am in charge of all content and pictures here.

I am not a makeup artist, nor do I have any professional training in makeup.

New Deborah Lippmann Polishes: Mermaid's Dream, Ray of Light, Lara's Theme [Photos & Swatches]

    Hi!

Last week, I purchased two polishes from Luxola.com, where they re-stocked the new Deborah Lippmann colors.  Since I am only getting a couple of these, it is the fastes and best way to get my hands on them.  The third color is actually a free gift with above $50 purchases, and it is quite a good deal, since you are getting 3 DL polishes for the prices of 2 (but the free nail polish shade is already pre-fixed).

The two colors that I am keen on, are the new summer (or spring) shades - Mermaid's Dream, and Ray of Light.

Mermaid's Dream is a beautiful shimmery, glittery golden teal color.  It contains specks of blue glitter, and finer bits of gold glitter.  It really does look like fish scales, very oceanic, and very unique, IMO.

Ray of Light is a cool toned navy blue (a little sheerish but not streaky) with orange/green/red flakies inside.  It is certainly something interesting...although not entirely unique.  I think you can paint a blue as base, and finish off with a flakie nail polish, and would end up with the same, if not better effect.

Lara's Theme is a nail polish shade inspired/ or perhaps created by Lara Stone (my model girl crush) it is a reddish orange - not orangey red okay!  Heheh.  The formula is great, and creamy, and looks intensely opaque in two coats.

    Photos & swatches:

All swatches in this entry are done with a coat of Butter London Flawless Basecoat, two coats of polish, and finish with Butter London Quick Topcoat.

May 2012 Bellabox - Pamper yourself, Pamper Your Mum! [Photos & Overview]

Nothing like the arrival of a monthly BellaBox to remind you that time is passing by so quickly!!

It is already May, and we are almost halfway through the year.  Scary scary how time flies.  It seems like only last week I was writing Christmas entries, and welcoming the new year.

This month's BellaBox is a Mother's Day Theme box, containing pampering products for you and mommy.  Everything is also bundled in this cute little cloth bag (good for containing travel products).

Over the Mother's Day weekend, I spent an eventful two days, Saturday morning was spent doing express manicure with Kim, Amy & Jerlaine at a childcare centre, painting the fingernails of a group of mothers, with their little tods watching side by side.  Saturday evening, I spent with the family, at a BBQ, and painted the fingers of more mothers and aunties, and even my little niece.  Well, since I have my nail polish kit with me, why not, right?   On Sunday, my mom, sister and I went to JB, where we had our manicures and pedicures done.. quite a nice relaxing & pampering afternoon!

But I digress.  So, what's in this month's Bellabox?

Lancome Rouge in Love 243M Belle Aurore [Photos, Swatches & LOTD]

Hi!  This entry will feature one of the 27 shades of Lancome's Rouge in Love. I picked this shade because it is a 'morning' shade, and being the morning person that I am, it seems quite appropriate.

243M Belle Aurore is a light neutral pink that is very wearable, and one of those shades that will go well with any eyelooks and outfits that you are wearing.  The texture of the lipstick is creamy without being too heavy, and it contains just a tiny bit of shimmer.  I have used it on several ocassions, and each time it lasted a good 3 hours on me.  I don't think it is one of those all day wear long lasting lipstick, and you might need to touch up time to time.  Though, I think it would probably last longer if you use a lip pencil, and apply with a lip brush and all that.  But I am not one to go through with all that, I much prefer to slap on the lip color and go.

The packaging of the lipstick itself is super cute, and sleek. It is compact, and sturdy, seeing as how the packaging is all metal.  No plasticky stuff there at all.  The back of the lipstick tube has a french stocking stitching type of print, and the front bears the words "rouge in love".

    very classy & elegant, yes?

and 2 LOTDs featuring the lipstick

I went with my usual neutral defined eyes to go with the lipstick.

I can't remember what I wore on both days, but in the first pic, I was wearing Dior's Aurora (2012 edition) on my cheeks, and my Suqqu palette on the eyes.  In the second and third pic, I was wearing NARS Isolde duo on my eyes, and Guerlain bronzer & blush on my cheeks.

Hope this sharing is helpful, and thank you for reading!

p/s Lancome Rouge in Love lipstick was given to me for consideration.  I am also aware that I left out the accent 'o' in Lancome - this is because somehow the new blog template doesn't show up the accented 'o' and omitted it instead which is a worse error.  Sorry!
