NEW Dior Addict EXTREME Lipstick in 486 Cruise [Swatches & LOTD]

This entry features the new Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick, I will be showing you the shade 486 Cruise.  I have previously shared the whole collection information about this range of lipsticks, in this entry (link here).

Here are some pictures of the packaging:

Just a comparison of the new Addict Extreme Lipstick vs the current Dior Addict Lipstick (which was released last Feb).

Love the sleek luxe black casing, very solid and sturdy.

486 Cruise is a pretty creamy pink shade.

This is very very smooth, creamy and glossy. The color payoff is decent, and true to what you see in the tube.

This is how it looks like on my lips.

And a quick LOTD with this lipstick.

This particular color is not very unique, but I am itching to purchase a couple more when the whole collection launches in April.

I am very very keen to get Incognito - which is a nude shade.

I love to wear these creamy lipsticks that deliver some color (think Revlon Lip Butters, Clinique Almost Lipsticks, Chanel Rouge Coco Shine, etc).

All products used in the LOTD:

base: Shu Uemura instant glow radiance skin perfecting cream * first time using it, OMG.  LOVES - just use a TINY bit! , Shu Uemura Smooth Fit Fluid Foundation, Shiseido White Lucent Skincare Powder, Shu Uemura pro gel cealer to conceal spots

cheeks: Diorskin nude glow healthy glow summer powder 001 Aurora all over the face, Dior Rosy Glow 001 Petal for blush

eyes: MUFE eyeshadow primer, suquu blend color eyeshadow 01 Kakitsubata, Laura Mercier caviar stick eye color Sapphire as liner

lips: Dior addict extreme lipstick 486 Cruise

lashes: my own customised pairs of falsies

Thanks for looking, and happy weekend!

Nails Story: A-England Bridal Veil [Photos & Swatches]

A-England's latest collection, The Legend, see a line-up of 7 shades, all very shimmery metallic (slightly holographic, though I won't say they are straight out holographic).  It is hard to put the A-England finish into any category.  Under daylight, they shimmery, and glimmer so brilliantly, and really eye-catching.  I have one other A-England nail polish - Tristan - and it was one of the more popular shades among most people during my little express manicure stint at Scape a few months back.

So, anyway, yes, back to Bridal Veil - it is a black nail polish - with that same interesting mix of metallic and holographic shimmer.  I will show it with a comparison, you can see it is neither holographic, nor gummetal.  And the shimmer is so densely packed, but yet it doesn't take away the blackness of Bridal Veil.

Very chic.    And especially so, on my short nails.

You can buy A-England nail polish at

mei mei's signatures here and also check out their Facebook page

a-england website (free intl shipping!)

Photos & swatches

I am comparing it with Color Club's Revvvvolution - a black holographic - I used to have OPI My Private Jet - which I actually USED UP - but I have given my second bottle to my sister since then.   They look quite similar in the bottle, but entirely different once applied.  Revvvolution is more grey-silver in its base color, while Bridal Veil still shows up solid black.

Hope this has been helpful.

Currently contemplating a proper order for some a-england polishes.

Eugenia from ommorphia has some very mouth-watering swatches of these nails polishes on her site,  her description is priceless too!

That's all and thanks for looking!

LOTD: Smokey with NARS Lhasa Eyeshadow

I need to put my Lhasa to use, because my girlfriend says she LOVES it, I haven't had much time during the week to do any decent eyelook,  And I also wanted to use my YSL Glossy Stain, but because this eyelook was turning out to be quite dramatic, I decided to use a nude lipstick OVER the YSL stain instead -- which made the whole lip combo LASTED THE WHOLE EVENING AND NIGHT!

Useful links:

NARS Lhasa entry here

YSL Glossy Stain entry here

CandyDoll nude lipstick entry here

What I did - all products used will be listed below:

I swept Lhasa eyeshadow all over my lids - it is a rather purple-y and yet sort of silvery brown/taupe eyeshadow, and then I decided to take it further by using a darker shade to add more depth to the outer corner of the eyes.  Before I know it, the eyelook was turning out to be quite the full-blown smokey eyes.

I wanted to keep it very clean nonetheless, hence I left the lower eyelids all bare.

Strong brows to pull the whole look together for me.

I slapped on my CandyDoll nude lippy to neutralise the YSL Glossy Stain, and the end results is this bright pop of pink that somehow matches my eyes and my top for the day.

All products used:

base - Laneige BB cushion, Shu Uemura Smooth Fit foundation, Shiseido white lucent brightening skincare powder (this deserves another entry!)

cheeks - NARS Torrid blush

lips - YSL Glossy Stain #11, and Candydoll nude lippy in Ramune Pink

eyes - MUFE eyeshadow primer, NARS Lhasa all over the lids, MAC Bloodline pigment for outer corners

Lashes Shu Uemura Farfarlina

Printed top from River Island

I styled my damp hair with Bumble & Bumble styling lotion (for some volume and slight hold) and then used my GHF flat iron to straighten and smooth the hair.

as seen on instagram

That's all, and thanks for looking!

LOTD: Day Look with Laneige Love in Bloom Makeup Collection

Decided to try out the Laneige Love in Bloom makeup collection (link for the full product and swatches entry here!) and I went for my fave shade in that palette, which looks like a pinky orangey golden shade, but well, it actually turned out a lot pinker than I had hoped for...and I think I decided to go in line with the pinky soft theme of the look. I also have on my fave among the five lipgloss pots in 03 Raspberry Pink.

On the cheeks, I lightly contoured and highlighted with the blush, but I used my own blusher for the blush part.

All products used will be listed at the end of this entry.

I found  the eyeshadows really easy to work with, the colors are quite pigmented, they are a little powdery, but just use an eyeshadow primer and work a little slowly, you shouldn't get too much fall out.  I also used the darkest blue black to line my eyes, and pulling it farther out than my own eyeshape, so there's a little shadow of a winged liner there.   A a bonus, the tiny brushes that came in the eyeshadow palette --- the fluffy brush -- is amazing, it is very good as a blending brush, and for something tiny, it is quite practical and useful!  The sponge-tip applicators come with a liner precise end which I used to pick up the liner shade and draw a precise eyeliner, and also smudge it out for a softer yet defined look.

I used my fingers to apply the lipgloss, it is so smooth and creamy.  Really can't recommend this enough.

The cheek palette, was a tad too powdery for my liking though.  I really like the bronzer/ contour shade, it is actually quite cool toned, and suitable as a contour shade -- I used it at the sides of my nose too.  The highlight shade didn't really show up on my face, and I didn't quite feel like piling it on.

All products used:

base - Laneige BB Cushion, Giorgio Armani Lasting UV Silk foundation, Shu Uemura pro gel cealer

eyes - MUFE eyeshadow primer (LOVES), Laneige love in bloom palette, Shu Uemuera smokey layers false lashes (I cut and it look kind of wonky today. ARGH)

lips - Laneige love in bloom lipgloss 03 Raspberry

cheeks - Laneige love in bloom Sculpting Blusher, Illamasqua Panic powder blush

Hope this is helpful, and thanks for looking!

About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.
