Lancome Holiday 2012: TresOR Collection & Holiday Sets [Photos & Information]

TresOR Collection will be available at Lancome Beauty Counters from 1st Nov 2012 onwards.

The Lancome Happy Holidays Set and Beauty Coffrets will be available at Lancome Beauty Counters from 1st Nov 2012 onwards.

Fascinated by the magnificence of the city of lights, and by its sumptuous receptions, Ernest Hemingway paid homage to Paris by writing “Paris est une fėte” (The moveable feast) – a sparkling and ultra chic feast in the most majestic locations.

For the end of the year, Lancôme brings you in this open-air ballroom imagined by the writer, where Paris is dressed in gold.

Shiny crystal chandeliers are reflecting on the golden mesh dresses of some elegant women. This gives the tone of this baroque and generous collection.

Discover the new Ombre Hypnôse Mono limited edition collection adorned with golden glitters.

The jewel like case encloses a treasure new formula.

Woven like a mesh fabric, this fine texture offers a very sparkling formula to create the most dynamic and scintillating eye effects.

Pure golden pigments combined with the luxurious texture offer an excellent pick up and color pay-off that lasts for up to 16hours.

This formula can be used dry or wet to increase the color intensity.

Les Paillettes Aux Yeux ($36) contains loose sparkles in a “shaker-jar” for easy application to the eyes.

It is easily blendable thanks to its powdery formula which offers “golden jewel shimmers” for an intense glow.

Used as a top coat over Ombre Hypnôse Mono to dramatize the glitter effect.

Combine the shades with a matching eyeshadow for a festive tone-on-tone makeup result, or over a contrasting shade for a more daring result.

The timeless lip classic in Lancôme is revisited in this collection with 3 new limited edition shades.

Infused with golden reflection, they are the holiday must-haves.

$44 each, 3 shades.

NARS x Andy Warhol Collection for Holiday 2012 [First Look]

This entry contains pictures I took during our preview for the NARS x Andy Warhol Collection for Holiday 2012.  Official photos and information are contained in this entry here (link link link).

I also posted swatches of some of the products in case you are curious.  But for better quality swatches, I highly recommend you do a search at Temptalia and Cafe Makeup

It was a little overwhelming to see everything in person at last.  What you see there, are the NARS items which will be available at our own local NARS counter which will open at TANGS Orchard come 15 Nov.  The store will be closed for media opening, but open to the public from 7pm 3pm.  I strongly suggest you get there early to make sure you get your hands on the limited edition gift sets (prices are really quite reasonable), as the quantity is very limited, and each person is only entitled to ONE set of each.

The pencils are all superbly smooth, and blendable.

My faves are the nail polishes.  Love the names, the shades, and the formula.

They are very creamy, pigmented and applies beautifully.

I definitely want to get a set of the mini nail polishes - Photo Booth Gift set.

and also this Edie gift set!

Thanks for looking!

NARS x Andy Warhol Collection for Holiday 2012 [Q&A WITH FRANCOIS NARS]

What inspired you to collaborate with the Warhol Foundation on the NARS Andy Warhol Holiday Collection?

I’ve been a fan of Andy’s work since...forever, it feels like! His artistic point of view has been so informative in my work as a makeup artist, then a photographer, and as someone who’s built a brand around an art form. His influence is threaded through the DNA of NARS in other ways as well. Fabien Baron, who is the editorial director of Interview magazine which, of course Andy founded designed the NARS logo. I like to think there’s always been a connection between our work.

What’s your favorite work of art by Andy, and how is it reflected in this collection?

His silk screens are of course totally iconic, so their influence is everywhere. We were even able to match several shades to colors from his paintings. But we captured so much more than what he put on a canvas. Andy did so many things in his life film, magazines, TV, painting, performance his spirit is everywhere in this collection.

What are the must-have products for the holiday season?

The Eyeshadow Palettes are amazing, very Warhol-esque. I’ve never seen anything like them before. Andy’s quotes on the mirrors tie in with beauty so perfectly; I couldn’t not include them.

The bold colors Andy used in his work seem to impact not just this, but all your collections. How important is color to you in creating a beauty look?

Color is so important! I like colors that are honest I think that the shade you see in the pan or the tube is how the color should appear on your face, so I’m always pushing our chemists to add more pigment. That’s why I love the saturated colors Andy used in his work - reds, blues, yellows. He was so unafraid to be bold.

Which gift collection would you most like to receive this holiday season?

I think the “Silver Factory” gift collection [available at department and specialty stores] is the perfect present for anyone who’s a fan of beauty, art, or pop culture. The silver cosmetics bag is just so great. All of the packaging is amazing. The film canister for “Edie.”  It’s all so much fun.

What should women try from the collection?

Holiday is the perfect time to experiment with makeup. The colors in the Soft Touch Shadow Pencils are seductive and fun, with shades like vivid purple, silver, and teal. A bright nail and an iridescent eye feels festive and sexy right now.

The colors in this collection are so bright and bold. How can a woman make these shades work for everyday?

I don’t think women should be afraid of bright colors. This collection is confident, graphic, and I hope women embrace that. That said, making a look work is about finding a balance. Pair a bold lip with a lighter eye, or go the other way around.

NARS x Andy Warhol Collection for Holiday 2012 [Official Information & Photos]

Available at TANGS Orchard 15 Nov from 3pm.

** This entry contains official product information of the NARS x Andy Warhol collection for Holiday 2012 which will be exclusively available at the brand new NARS counter opening at TANGS Orchard 15 Nov 2012 from 3pm **

Pop art pioneer, and publisher, ANDY WARHOL was one of the most important visual artists of the 20th centure.  He joked "art is whatever you can get away with.' A painting, a movie, a TV commericial, an album cover, or an interview with a movie star.  For Andy, art could be anything but whatever he did, he did it as if it were fine art.  He made paintings with a photo booth and 'Screen Tests' - movies that barely moved.  He made an 8-hour movie starring the Empire State Building.  He changed the way we see the world.

Andy Warhol's world has been inspiring FRANÇOIS NARS for years.  Now NARS introduces a limited edition collection in the spirit of Andy Warhol.  From the formulas and shades to the packaging and names, every element of the collection evokes FRANÇOIS NARS' take on the cool, image-rich, character-laden world of Warhol.

Everybody is a Superstar.  At least for 15 minutes.

In a new makeup gifting collection for department and speciality stores, NARS captures the spirit of Warhol's Silver Factory.  The edgy energy of the Screen Tests, the intense color of the silkscreens, and the cool of Warhol's superstars - underground icons and downtown divas who amazed audience just by being themselves.  For Andy the factory characters were like a full spectrum palette - personality as colour.

Photos & Details (Prices will be updated as I get them)

Andy believed in a trademark look.  His silver hair made him look ironically young.  His shades added a mystery look.  He looked like he had a secret, even if he didn't.  He was shy of strangers but he liked being famous.  He said it gave him an aura.

The gift set includes:

BACK ROOM - Black

SOUP CAN - Perfect Red

Chelsea Girls - Innocent, flesh toned beige

Silver Factory - Aluminium

Edie Sedgwick was the sixties It Girl, with the biggest eyes, the shortest skirt and longest legs.  For Edie, life was a non-stop performance.  Edie and Andy were silver haired lookalikes.  Andy said "she has more problems than anybody I ever met," but she was his muse and if Andy were a girl he would have been Edie.

Presented in an authentic 16mm film canister, the gift set includes:

EDIE EYESHADOW - Cream with a little bit of shimmer

DEEP THROAT/ AMOUR BLUSH DUO - Shimmering sheer peach and matte peachy pink

Candy was the ultimate blonde bombshell.  She was Andy's greatest actress, even though she was a man. She said "you must always be yourself no matter what the price.  It is the highest form of morality."  She thought beauty was a duty and worked harder at it than anyone.

Accompanied by a silver deluxe cosmetics bag, the gift set includes:

CANDY DARLING NAIL POLISH (5.5ml size) Electric Pink

FEMME FATALE DUO EYESHADOW  - Sheer white shimmer and fresh mint green

WOMAN IN REVOLT Larger than Life Lip Gloss - Hot Pink

Andy listed his occupation as "Factory Owner".  He called his silver-foiled studio 'The Factory' because for him art was work, and it took a team to make it.  His 'superstars' surrounded him there, but he said he was hanging around them.

Accompanied by a silver deluxe cosmetics bag, the gift set includes:

SHADOWS TRIO EYESHADOW Aluminiun, Bright Deep Purple, and Matte Black

CHELSEA GIRLS PURE MATTE LIPSTICK  Innocent, flesh-toned beige

DESIRE BLUSH Delicate Bright Pink

Brilliant shine, intense colour, NARS Larger than Life Lip Gloss provides lustrous shine that stays in place for hours, while lips feel protected and moisturised.

Penny Arcade - Raspberry

International Velvet - Pink Glace

Viva - Rich Rose

Candy Says - Shimmering Strawberry Pink

Holly Woodlawn - Bright Orange Red

47th Street Larger than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner

Larger than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner takes liner to the next level.  Rich, Creamy color glides on smoothly with a completely budgeproof finish.  Black with silver shimmer.

Satelite of Love Highlighting Blush

Illuminating highlighting powders give skin a light-reflecting luminous glow.  Wear alone or pair with other cheek products to create beautiful dimension on the face.  Sparkling gold sand.

NAIL POLISH [SGD $30 each]

Back Room - Black

New York Dolls - Purple

Superstar - Teal

15 minutes - Lemon Yellow

TV Party - Vivid Orange

A modern, multi-use pencil for shading, lining and highlighting the eyes with a seamless, velvety finish.

Palettes feature variations on Andy Warhol's painting, Self Portrait, 1967.  Chrome Logo on compact and Andy Warhol quotes on mirrors.

Self Portrait 2 - Black, White and Silver

Self Portrait 3 - Dark Brown with shimmer overspray, rose pink and heather blue

And lots more images to get you excited:

LORAC PRO Palette [Photos & Swatches]

I think I have found the queen of all neutral palettes.

Thanks to my girlfriend's colleague who went to the US recently, we managed to get the Lorac Pro Palette (USD42) from Sephora.  If you haven't heard of this latest famous neutral palette (which I think gives the NAKED palettes a big run for their money), you must hear about it like now now now.

Description from US Sephora:

What it is:
A professional palette featuring 16 ultra-pigmented eye shadows infused with soothing botanicals and a mini Behind The Scenes Eye Primer for stay-true color that lasts.

What it does:
Created by celebrity makeup artist Carol Shaw, this PRO artistry palette is packed with eight shimmer and eight matte eye shadows in all the shades you need to create the hottest looks straight from the red carpet. LORAC’S velvety smooth shadows are infused with soothing botanicals and are ultra-pigmented to perform wet or dry so you can shade, shadow, line, and define your eyes, just like a pro.

This set contains:
- 0.17 oz Mini Behind the Scenes Eye Shadow Primer
- 0.32 oz PRO Eye Shadow Palette (Top row matte colors: White, Cream, Taupe, Light Pink, Mauve, Sable, Espresso, Black; Bottom row: Nude (Shimmer), Champagne (Sparkle), Gold (Shimmer), Lt. Bronze (Shimmer), Pewter (Shimmer), Garnet (Shimmer), Deep Purple (Shimmer), Slate (Shimmer)

Some picures of the packaging:

The palette itself is ultra slim, and it has a magnetic closure.  The only downside to the packaging is the rubberised surface, much like the NARS packaging.  Other than that, it's slim and sleek perfection.

I shan't go into the girly math of how much shadow works out to be, nor compare it to by weight price comparisons with other neutral palettes like the NAKED palettes (hello, we are talking about makeup, not vegetables at the market), because... seriously, there's no way I am running of any of these eyeshadows in the near future to come... and the price for this palette is just super value for money (it works out to under S$55 for this amazing 16 eyeshadows - you can't go wrong with that!!).

Without further ado, here's the beautiful palette of eyeshadows.  A row of matte, and a row of shimmer shades.

I like that the names are very literal, and really just describes the shades in the pan.

and what you see in the pan, and what you get on your skin/ eyes!

Are you ready for the swatches?

The primer is a colorless creamy base.

It really makes the colors super ultra vibrant, as you will see in the pictures below.

But even without primer, the eyeshadows hold their own in terms of intensity and pigment.

I am really seriously impressed, and super excited that I got this palette!

If you have the chance, definitely grab the Lorac Pro Palette!

Halloween 2012: The Zipperface Dukes

The plans for this year, took place very slowly and very spontaneously - we all had our busy schedules, and we didn't have any fixed ideas nor themes til we headed to the costume store just late this week.  There, ideas slowly start to shape and take form, and this year, we decided to get all dressed up as males with gruesome zipper faces.  The best thing of all? Preparation in terms of the makeup to the outfits was a lot more fuss free.  There was no unflattering weird pouffy dresses, no differentiated looks, no fancy hairdos.. just all zipper faces and hair tucked under our gentleman hats.  Since we are all artists in our own ways, we did our own faces.  We did a makeup trial yesterday, and decided to go out for a bit...call it a dress rehearsal as you will.. and these are some pictures we took.

Also got my cousin to document our Halloween parade and follow him @aikbengchia on instagram to see what we are up to!

So...presenting to you, The 5 Zipperface Dukes!

a close up of each of us

A few more shots of me... and thanks to photo filters which made the makeup even more gruesome!

My little accessories and manicure featuring Chanel MALICE from their latest holiday collection

A little step by step:

I also painted my niece and nephew's faces, took me about 15 min later, and 2 very very happy trick and treating kids.

Hope you enjoyed this entry, and thanks for looking!

Shimmer Polish in Caroline [Photos & Swatches]

If you love purple, and if you love glitter, then you need Shimmer Polish in the shade Caroline.

is a very densely packed purple glitter nail polish.  You can get opaque payoff in 3 coats, but here I am showing 2 coats, over a coat of A-English Avalon, which is the perfect matching purple shade for Caroline.  The consistency is a little thick, but easy enough for me to work with.

What makes Caroline a 'powerful' purple glitter is the addition of multi-color glitter bits that come through the predominantly purple bits and base color.  You can see there's pink, blue, silver, and even some green bits.  This gives the shade some extra kick and also dimensional instead of a homogenous purple.

I applied Seche Vite topcoat over the layers of polish, and when everything is dried, and you will be glad to note that Caroline is not a 'topcoat' eater.  Meaning that the surface dries smooth, and not gritty like how some glitter polish can feel.

A blurred shot to show you the amazing colors of Caroline.

Shimmer Polish carries a range of glittery nail polish, and you can check out more shades here at Shoppe Eclecticco. They are a Singapore based nailpolish e-store selling many indie brand nail polishes, and if you are looking into some of these indie brands, it's a great place to check out.  You can also check out Shoppe Eclecticco on FaceBook for updates and stocks arrival.  They ship worldwide.

I hope this feature & review has been helpful, and thanks for reading!

About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.
