About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Review of new stuff (Part 1)

This entry will be on the Loreal Super Liner Carbon Gloss and the CS 28 neutral colour palette.

I have been using the Loreal eyeliner for about a week now, and it has not given me any smudge issues at all.  I have rather oily lids and most of the time eyeliners tend to smudge no matter how waterproof they are.  But this liquid eyeliner stays put the whole day, and it is amazingly easy to apply.  The felt tip is firm and draws a precise line.  Like using a very fine tip pen on your lids.

As its name Super Liner Carbon Gloss suggests, the colour is ultra black and intense, and it has an almost 'patent' finish even after it dries and sets, and not matte, which is really cool.  I would definitely recommend this to anyone in search of the perfect liquid liner.  The firm and sharp tip also makes doing a winged liner easy too.

I took a picture of myself wearing the eyeliner at the end of the day, so I can show you how lt still looks like when I first put it on in the morning.

*Ok I realise you can't really tell in the picture the eyeliner... but I am pretty happy that my eye makeup still stays intact....

Which brings me to the next item to review.  The CS 28 colour neutral palette.  I have been using this palette for a couple of days.  In terms of colour payoff, I would say the colors which I have used so far all pigmented, and they go on very smoothly after using a base, in this case, I used my new MAC paint in Bare Canvas.

I think that the brown and dark brown colours are much more pigmented than the paler colours which needs more packing on.  But there are only about 5 or 6 pale shades in this whole palette, and you have all the brown, tans, and even more purple tones to play with.  I haven't had the chance to play with all of them yet, but I look forward to showing off more looks using this palette.

I will now show some swatches next to MAC colours, and you can see that the CS colours hold up very well indeed.

(top row L - R MAC colors  tempting, magnetic fields, femme fi, dazzlelights)

(bottom row - the CS palette)

    * How the eyeshadow holds up after a long day -- everything stays put!

That's all!  I hope you find this review helpful.  Look out for Part 2 shortly!

    Santa Nails

I did nail extensions over the weekend.  I sometimes like the look of long sleek nails, but my own nails aren't tough enough when they are grown beyond a certain length.  The last time I had gel/fake nails done was more than a year back.  I probably will keep this set of nails for about 2 months before removing them. The manicurist also drew a Santa face on one of my nail using the acrylic powder, making a very 3D and detailed picture.

I got a french manicure with the white plastic tips.  This way I can still paint regular nail polish over whenever I wish, and remove the nail polish whenever too.

Since we are on Santa.... check this out:
