About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

    YSL Rouge Volupte Shine: No 12 Corail Incandescent


    Hi hi!

    This is a quick look featuring one of the new YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in No12 Corail Incandescent.  The new Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks are already available at the YSL counter at Tangs and also at their store in Ion retailing for S$45 each.  These lipsticks have a high glossy finish, and have a semi-sheer consistency.  They are creamy, and goes onto the lips very smoothly.  I find them very moisturising and have a hydrating effect on me.  If you want a more opaque look than the current Rouge Volupte Sheer Candy, then the Shine series would be right up your alley.  

    I was given 5 of these Rouge Volupte Shines..and here we have a bright coral pink - this can even pass off as a wearable red for beginners.  There is some pink, mostly a bright coral shade.  The color payoff on this particular shade is more opaque than the others.  It is very pretty, and great match for a soft neutral smokey eye look. 

    I find that these last about 2 - 3 hours on me, they are not very lasting simply because of the very emolient and moisturising factor, but they are easy to apply, and I don't really have an issue with that.   You wil also find that other shades which I will be featuring in the next couple of days show up more creamy and opaque.

    YSL Rouge Volupte Shine: No 6 Pink in Devotion

    Hi hi! 

    This is a quick look featuring one of the new YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in No6 Pink in Devotion.  The new Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks are already available at the YSL counter at Tangs and also at their store in Ion retailing for S$45 each.  These lipsticks have a high glossy finish, and have a semi-sheer consistency.  They are creamy, and goes onto the lips very smoothly.  I find them very moisturising and have a hydrating effect on me.  If you want a more opaque look than the current Rouge Volupte Sheer Candy, then the Shine series would be right up your alley.  

    I was given 5 of these Rouge Volupte Shines..and here we have a rather deep pink shade - which leans on the warmer side (as opposed to the cooler 19 Fuchsia in Rage which I featured in the previous entry).  I personally prefer wearing a darker warm pink like this - it enhances my neutral understone, and warms up my complexion in general.  Overall, I think that this is a safe shade to get, and I sometimes blot away the shine of the lipstick, and wear it as a matte stain for a healthy rosy lips effect.

    I find that these last about 2 - 3 hours on me, they are not very lasting simply because of the very emolient and moisturising factor, but they are easy to apply, and I don't really have an issue with that.   You wil also find that other shades which I will be featuring in the next couple of days show up more creamy and opaque.

    I find that because these lipsticks are so emoilient, they don't settle into the lips of my lips, and feel really moisturising and creamy on my lips.

    YSL Rouge Volupte Shine: No 19 Fuchsia in Rage

    Hi hi! 

    This is a quick look featuring one of the new YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in No19 Fuchsia in Rage.   The new Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks are already available at the YSL counter at Tangs and also at their store at Ion retailing for S$45 each.  These lipsticks have a high glossy finish, and have a semi-sheer consistency.  They are creamy, and goes onto the lips very smoothly.  I find them very moisturising and have a hydrating effect on me.  If you want a more opaque look than the current Rouge Volupte Sheer Candy, then the Shine series would be right up your alley.  

    I was given 5 of these Rouge Volupte Shines..here we have No 19 Fuchsia in Rage - don't let the scary name put you off. I had applied it straight from the tube in this set of photos, and it is showing up a lot more pink (rather than the purple in the tube).  I like  that it is not too much of a bright typical pink, and gives a pop of color to a neutral eyelook as I often do most of the time.   It is not a color which I am immediately drawn to, but I think if you are more tanned than I am, and looking for a purpley pink lip color, I think you will love this. 

    The texture and consistency is ultra smooth and creamy.  These Rouge Volupte Shines last for 2 - 3 hours on me, fading off nicely due to their semi-sheer finish. 

    Stay tuned to see the next 3 shades I will be showing, very work friendly and classic colors like coral pinks, and a very beautiful everyday red.

    Here you can see the streaks on my upper lip - I should have blended them out, but to be honest, I didn't see the streaks until I went through this set of close up pictures. Opps. 


    And overal look - again, I like to pair neutral looks, clean skin with any lip color.   So you will see me wearing the same base and eye looks for all my YSL lip colors.  (PS, I am using the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette on my brows and eyelids)  - the base is just The Body Shop BB Cream, and set with DiorSnow Fresh Reveal Color Correcting Powder.

    This is a quick look featuring one of the new YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in No3 Violet Incognito.  The new Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks are already available at the YSL counter at Tangs and also at their store in Ion retailing for S$45 each.  These lipsticks have a high glossy finish, and have a semi-sheer consistency.  They are creamy, and goes onto the lips very smoothly.  I find them very moisturising and have a hydrating effect on me.  If you want a more opaque look than the current Rouge Volupte Sheer Candy, then the Shine series would be right up your alley.  

    I was given 5 of these Rouge Volupte Shines..and first up, is the most dramatic shade - in Violet Incognito.  It is a deep blackberry shade, which shows up very wearable on me, I could have gone over a couple more times for a more intense look, but I probably swiped it twice across my lips, I applied it straight from the tube.  It can get a little streaky as with dark lip colors, so I used my finger to dab and even out the color. 

    It is a very wearable and chic was to rock a deep dark berry shade - and definitely one of the standout shades in this collection.  In the tube it looks almost black, and just super sophisticated in my opinion.  I find that these last about 2 - 3 hours on me, they are not very lasting simply because of the very emolient and moisturising factor, but they are easy to apply, and I don't really have an issue with that.   You wil also find that other shades which I will be featuring in the next couple of days show up more creamy and opaque.

    Five Beautiful YSL Rouge Volupte Shine

    The colors are just divine.  They are very creamy, and most are on the sheer side - but not as sheer as the YSL Rouge Volupte Sheer Candy.
