About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Four Dior Nude Nail Polishes: Charnelle, Grege, Trench & Dune

    Hi hi!

Dior recently released a collection of four nude polishes, designed to suit every skintone and to appeal to your nude polish preferences.

The lightest shade, Charnelle, is a sheer pinky beige, and if you apply it carefully, you get a even finish in two coats.  It is meant to be rather sheer and miky.

My favourite two among these would be Grege and Trench - the medium nude which looks browner than Charnelle.  Grege is an almost close to my skintone color, and something I would wear anytime, anywhere.  It really reminds me of Essie Brooch the Subject, and Deborah Lippmann Fashion.

And Trench, I have previously featured here - is a dupe for Chanel Particuliere - I can do a follow up comparison entry if anyone is keen.  It is slightly taupey, but no hint of purple.. it is just a milky light nude-y brown shade.  Both Grege and Trench applies true to color in 2 coats.

Finally the darkest shade, Dune, is a deep brown shade, that kind of reminds me of Dior Bengale.... again, I would do a comparison entry if anyone is keen.

Overall, I am a fan of nude creams, and I always get suckered into a nude collection. I am very happy to add these shades to my collection.

Meanwhile, enjoy the swatches and photos!

Jope this entry has been helpful, and thank you for reading!

Dior Vernis 223 Trench [Photos & Swatches]

This entry features Dior Vernis in 223 Trench which will be released with the new DiorNude Skin range of foundations, lipsticks and brushes later in September - click here for collection information.

Trench (love the name!) is a medium brown nude shade, it falls into the same category of other shades like Chanel Particuliere (which I have, but not comparing til later on), Essie Mink Muffs (darker), OPI You Don't Know Jacques (browner, darker too?), Dior Incognito is more nude and pinkier. It is extremely smooth and creamy, and is almost a one coater.  I applied 2 thin coats in this entry, to show you the color.

Dior polishes typically lasts 5 - 6 days on me without any tipwear although these days I hardly wear any one shade more than 2 days.

    This will retail for S$37.

It is a timeless classic shade that will suit all seasons, and most skintones.

There are three other shades of nude which I will most likely be picking up when the whole collection launches.

I have several more Dior Nude products to feature, slowly, but surely.  Can't wait to share!

Hope this entry has been helpful, and thank you for looking!

Burberry Sheer Eyeshadows: Trench, Rose Wood & Midnight Brown [Photos, Swatches & Comparisons]

I purchased 3 Burberry eyeshadows from the recent Tangs 12% rebate sale.  I have heard much about these eyeshadows, which are often described as soft, pigmented and very fine quality.

I am very happy to have these (and if only they come in simpler packaging, I won't think of depotting them) - as I was swatching them, the powder feels so velvety, so smooth and so soft.  The color range of the Burberry eyeshadows are rather muted, very in line with their clothing line - neutrals, earthy tones with a few bright pastels.  The texture of these eyeshadows are really divine, and I am very impressed.  Can't wait to actually use them.

The packaging of these eyeshadows come in a heavy metal magnetic casing - enclosed in a black velvet pouch that has the trademark checkered embossed all over. The applicator is just a waste of time... I won't be using them anyway.  I like that each single eyeshadow comes with its own little mirror.  If they can be depotted into some bigger Burberry eyeshadow palette, won't that be awesome?

The three colors I picked are a pale brow bone shade, a soft pinky brown, and a darker brown to create smokey looks.  Or I can use all of them in the same look, since they will complement one another very well.

I also got a makeup pouch (with nothing inside...chey) with my purchase, but I gave it to my mom.  I also wanted Pale Barley -- but that was out of stock at the time the purchase was made.

    Close up and swatches:

    02 Trench

    03 Rosewood

    21 Midnight Brown

    swatches

the word 'sheer' is really deceiving, there is nothing sheer about these shadows

but perhaps sheer in terms of the soft and silky texture?

and some comparisons with mainly NARS and a few MAC eyeshadows

The 3 un-named eyeshadows are from my MAC neutral palette, but I forgot their names...

I will try to post a Burberry-ad inspired kind of nude natural makeup featuring these eyeshadows soon enough.

    Thank you for reading.
