I placed an order for the Illamasqua Skinbase foundation when they had the free delivery promotion. I also had 10% off because this is my third Illamasqua order. I chose the shade No4 which is a light neutral undertone shade. If you follow me on twitter, you would have read about my raves for this foundation. I have been using it almost everyday for the past week.
My first impressions:
- A little goes a long way, if you need more, it is better to build up layer by layer, or in areas where you need more coverage. Don't make the mistake of using too much on first layer, cos it will look all streaky and patchy.
- I like to use my fingers with this foundation for now. Maybe when I 'know' it better, I will play around with some brushes to buff it into my skin. For now, my fingers work best.
- The coverage is medium to almost full. Even though I just use less than I would normally do for other foundations, it gives the same if not more, coverage.
- Shade 4 is a perfect match for my skintone.
- The texture is very smooth.
- The finish is a satiny almost matte look. It makes the pores on my nose less obvious.
- It is pretty long lasting (a good 10 - 12 hours).
- Oil control is so-so, I probably blot every 4 or 5 hours anyway.
- Slight 'cupcake' scent to it, similar to the matte base.
- I like to use it over my fave BB cream base of the moment (review coming in the next week).
I highly recommend this foundation if you want something that works - in terms of coverage, finish and texture. The only downside is that since we have no illamasqua counter here it can be hard to match your skintone - even though they have an amazing shade range. I am just lucky that I am pretty easy to match in terms of foundation shades.
I know I am always raving about foundations, but I like testing different ones, and finding good combinations. I would use a favourite combo for a couple of weeks, and then move on to something else. Then I would go back to the previous fave or find something else to try out.
In my order, Amy also ordered the Skinbase in Shade 3, which is light with yellow understones to counteract her pink undertones. She gave me a good sample of it, and I have swatched both side by side. I think shade 3 might be too light just by looking, and shall update if it matches me too soon.
I will also be showing some LOTDs soon featuring this foundation.
Lots of pictures and swatches:

Have you tried out Skinbase?
Thanks for looking.
