About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. Updated Skincare Routine: Clarins White Plus HP Series

    Hi hi,

Just would like to share with you my updated skincare routine, which consists mainly of 3 new products, in additional to current products which I am already using.

I am starting on this "new" routine which would be a non-stop dual whitening process, for a luminous rosy skin.  Who wouldn't want that, right?  I have mentioned the 3 new products recently launched by Clarins from their White Plus HP range, and you can click THIS ENTRY for detailed information.

I hope to share with you my experience as a Clarins user for almost a year -- I was re-introduced to the brand last year (used their older whitening range 5 or 6 years back), and since then I have been re-purchasing items which I believe in, and personally enjoy using. I have tried out all 3 products during my Skintime last week, and if you would like to feel, and try out all these items on your own skin, book here for your own Skintime.  It is free!

My Day/ Morning routine would consist of the following items:

    1. Gentle Renewing Brightening Peel *new
    2. Shaping Facial Lift serum *starting on my 3rd bottle soon
    3. Pore Minimising Serum *my 2nd bottle
    4. Whitening Moisture Day Emulsion SPF20 Sea Lily Enriched *I purchased this last year.

My Night routine would consist of the following items:

    1. Gentle Renewing Brightening Peel *new
    2. Shaping Facial Lift serum *starting on my 3rd bottle soon
    3. Pore Minimising Serum *my 2nd bottle
    4. Whitening Repairing Night Cream *new

The night cream has a very rich creamy texture, but it blends into your skin very easily.  Not OVERLY thick.

Do you know pigmentation does not stop at night?

Even while you sleep, your skin can produce significant quantities of melanin, due to various daytime stress factors and UV rays.  The night cream contains extracts of white flowers, and provides the double anti-dark spots protection for brighter skin in the morning.  The Daisy extract has repairing and soothing benefits, and helps skin to recover better during the night, thus slowing down hyperpigmentation linked to stress factors.  The night cream also contains sea lily extract, with powerful brightening properties.  Together with biotin (Vitamin B8) and vitamin C derivative, brighter skin is ensured every morning, along with the translucent rosy glow of youthful skin.

And once or twice a week, I would be using this, also the latest from their whitening range:

    Gentle Brightening Exfoliator *new

I really like the scent, and you can see the reddish beads in this exfoliator.

There are two types of microbeads, one exfoliating and the other refining, to remove excess dead skin cells, tighten pores and refine skin texture.  The combination of raspberry, strawberry and grapefruit minimizes dark spots on the skin surface.  Complexion appears fresher-looking and more luminous.

And after cleansing my face daily -- a close up of the Gentle Renewing Brightening Peel:

It is gentle, and as refreshing as water.  This is a exfoliating lotion that instantly smoothes skin texture, evens and illuminates your complexion.  The ideal beauty step for bright, luminous skin.

It contains tamarind extracts which eliminates dead cells and impurities and helps skin to naturally exfoliate in the following days.   Pores will also be tightened and skin appears smooth and clear.  This is due to the white nettle extract with astringent and soothing properties.

I will be doing a review entry on the whitening products after a few weeks, so do stay tuned.

I also received my Clarins Club Beaute flyer yesterday, the new WP range is now exclusively released at TANGS from 21 Jan to 27 Jan.  During this time, club members enjoy exclusive privileges and also attractive GWP promotions.  Simply purchase any Clarins product from TANGS and start enjoying these rewards.

Some current items I lemming/ will be getting from Clarins:

    1. Defining Eye LIft (serum before using eye cream)
    2. WP Pearl to Cream Brightening Cleanser
    3. WP HP All Spots Corrector

That's all, and hope you find this helpful.

ps Clarins WP products featured here are given to me for consideration.  I also purchased most of the other products mentioned with my own money.  All opinions are my own honest ones.
