About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

    I am so sorry to have put this off for sooooooooooo long!

    But I have finally gotten my act together, and picked a winner.  I used random.org to pick the numbers.  Because of the rather large number of entries, I randomly picked the PAGE number first, followed by the comment number.

    1. My Dream Vacation is to go to one of those relaxing beach resorts in Bali where I can just forget about all the stress and worry of everyday life and enjoy having time for myself. Having a massage in open air sounds like a pretty great remedy!

    2. My Dream Makeup Room has to be reeeally organized since I'm a neat freak. I'd imagine that I'd have a compartment for every category of beauty products and the room would have ahmazing lighting and pretty mirrors all around.

    No makeup ban still stands.

    HI!!

    I did buy some makeup, but they are prizes for my on-going contest.  Click here to enter (esp the create your own section, the random draw enter once only)

    I bought 3 items of each, shan't give away too much details. Some are pouches, and some are makeup products.  Since I have yet to decide / pick winners, I also want to add in last minute surprise items, for example, if you stay in the same country, I might throw in shopping vouchers, and if you are international winner, I might throw in some MU stuff which is not available , for eg, Silkygirl/ Majorica/ Canmake etc.... But I don't want to send off anything too precious or costly as I don't want to risk them getting lost in the mail too.  Tough choices!!


    Besides contest goodies, I also got some wacky stuff.  For example, this pair of lashes, for $6.90, at that Far East Plaza shop "paz" yes, that place I got my brushroll and OPI nail polish. 

    Got this pair of OPI nail polish.  MOD ABOUT YOU - milky creamy pastel pink.  And atomic orange.  Creamy orange. But not neon blindlingly bright.



    Then some perfume.  Theirry Mugler ANGEL.. which is rather an obnoxious scent... very very musky and strong.  But I like how the scent changes and the remaining note is something powdery and floral.  This is a tester sample size, 100ml eau de parfum which is my fave, as I think eau de toilette is usually too light for my liking.  You can't find the 100ml in counters and stores.  I got this at Lucky Plaza... cheap perfumes.  Me Likey.
