About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

MUFE Rouge Artist Natural & Intense [Nudes & Reds Swatches, Comparisons & LOTDs]

    Hi!

This entry will feature the second edition of MUFE's rouge artist lipsticks.  Dany Sanz, wanted to showcase the profusion of colors in this collection.  More than ever before, ROUGE ARTIST is a real artist's palette in which makeup expresses itself and turns into an experience.  Beauty becomes one with creation in an array of lipsticks in every tone.

I have one each from each series, the ROUGE ARTIST NATURAL and the ROUGE ARTIST INTENSE to showcase here.  I already own a couple of the Rouge Artist intense lipsticks, and they are really smooth and some of the most pigmented lipsticks in my collection.

What's the difference  between ROUGE ARTIST NATURAL & ROUGE ARTIST INTENSE?

    Rouge Artist Natural

    • Avant-Garde Lipstick, Sheer Transparency
    • It is inspired by a return to naturalness, a key trend for spinrg 2012, focusing on fresh, vibrant tones in wardrobes and vanity cases.
    • The result: an astounding choice of shades that are as striking as ever, in an ideal sheer texture to spark inspiration.
    • Lipstick becomes playful with fashion colours.
    • Dresses lips in crystal clear shine.
    • Naturally enhances the radiance of the lips.

    Rouge Artist Intense

    • Supreme pigmentation, supreme coverage, immediate seduction.
    • Real lipstick, with lasting hold.
    • Object of desire and femininity turns lip makeup into an art form.
    • Melt away texture, and extreme colour result.
    • A formula saturated with pure colour pigments, a creamy formula and dazzling shades in a variety of finishes, matte, satiny or pearly.

    Comes in 100 shades! (WOW)

From the most classic to the most extravagant colours, from the most natural to the most sexy.  A hint of nude or passionate red.

I have two shades here:  some product close ups.

MUFE Rouge Artist Natural No.5 is a NUDE BEIGE. My lips but better shade.  It is nude, but the kind of nude that will suit most skintones, it is not the concealer like kind of dull pale, but a glossy natural looking lipstick shade.

MUFE Rouge Artist Intense in the shade MOULIN ROUGE - and well, it is a sexy seductive red, like what the girls of Moulin Rouge would wear on stage during performances.  It is a true red leaning with cool undertones.  I think it suits me, deeply intense red.  Takes a little bit of guts to pull this off for sure.
I can imagine my sister rocking this lipstick, because she is all about the red lips.

    Comparisons of NUDES & REDS

Some shots I snapped during my meeting with the MUFE PR Manager, Sabrina

    It was just lipsticks GALORE!

That's all, and I hope this has been helpful!

LOTD: Smokey with NARS Lhasa Eyeshadow

    Hi!

I need to put my Lhasa to use, because my girlfriend says she LOVES it, I haven't had much time during the week to do any decent eyelook,  And I also wanted to use my YSL Glossy Stain, but because this eyelook was turning out to be quite dramatic, I decided to use a nude lipstick OVER the YSL stain instead -- which made the whole lip combo LASTED THE WHOLE EVENING AND NIGHT!

    Useful links:

    NARS Lhasa entry here

    YSL Glossy Stain entry here

    CandyDoll nude lipstick entry here

What I did - all products used will be listed below:

I swept Lhasa eyeshadow all over my lids - it is a rather purple-y and yet sort of silvery brown/taupe eyeshadow, and then I decided to take it further by using a darker shade to add more depth to the outer corner of the eyes.  Before I know it, the eyelook was turning out to be quite the full-blown smokey eyes.

I wanted to keep it very clean nonetheless, hence I left the lower eyelids all bare.

Strong brows to pull the whole look together for me.

I slapped on my CandyDoll nude lippy to neutralise the YSL Glossy Stain, and the end results is this bright pop of pink that somehow matches my eyes and my top for the day.

    All products used:

base - Laneige BB cushion, Shu Uemura Smooth Fit foundation, Shiseido white lucent brightening skincare powder (this deserves another entry!)

    cheeks - NARS Torrid blush

lips - YSL Glossy Stain #11, and Candydoll nude lippy in Ramune Pink

eyes - MUFE eyeshadow primer, NARS Lhasa all over the lids, MAC Bloodline pigment for outer corners

    Lashes Shu Uemura Farfarlina

    Printed top from River Island

I styled my damp hair with Bumble & Bumble styling lotion (for some volume and slight hold) and then used my GHF flat iron to straighten and smooth the hair.

That's all, and thanks for looking!

    Haul: MUFE "Happy Birthday FacesBySarah"

Kimberley & Jennifer were still in the store making their purchases! Sorry didn't get to take  group pictures with you girls!

This is a special haul entry, because we got an amazing deal at MUFE today, 30% off everything, because it is Sarah's BIRTHDAY!  Sarah is an amazing makeup artist, and you can see her works and join her FB group HERE!  So just want to say a great THANKS to Sarah for giving us this chance to stock up on our fave MUFE products, and also for many others to try products from this great brand.

Here is what I bought - even though there are many more items I wish I want to get, I told myself, I must not buy anymore point (eyes, cheeks, lips) products, and stick to the base products.   Three modest items in all.  Even though it was a little crowded at the pro store today, we all agreed that the staff there were very helpful, and attentive despite having many groups of people to attend to.

    Prices before 30% discount

    • Super Matte Loose Powder #1    $59
    • Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick #22    $38
    • Lift Concealer #3   $39

The super matte loose powder is a re-purchase.  It is a fantastic setting powder, but I never got to re-purchasing it, because I am rotating too many powders currently (for example, Laura Mercier, La Mer, Chanel, NARS, Dermablend, Everyday Minerals...you name it, I got it! LOL).  But with the discount, well, I just thought might as well.

Seriously, I swear, my previous super matte loose powder is a PINK one...but this is like...a pale beige? Hmmmmmm, and it didn't come with a sponge?  Oh well.  Regardless, it is super finely milled, and by using the press-and-roll method with your powder puff, it gives the most flawless finish to your foundation.

Next, is a Rouge Artist Intense lipstick.  Yes, I don't need another lippy, but Sarah is always raving about this range of lipstick, so I think I got to try it out for myself.  Got a predictable nudey shade.  The texture is creamy, and the color is pigmented.   And now I just realised --- is this going to be the same as the MAC Viva Glam Gaga II which I have recently ordered??  Oh well!  Dang!  :p

I think I have almost every type of concealer from MUFE now (except for the HD concealer)!!!  This is the Lift Concealer, it has a very gel like, light consistency.  But the coverage is pretty industrial.  I think this is great for both under eyes and spots.   I intend to use this on its own, or mix and match with my other concealers.

My tube concealers (not including those in a pen, in a palette, and in pots.  Gosh!!)

Swatches - you can see the difference not just in the shades, but also the formula/ texture.   I like to mix and get the color which I want.

And some more pictures while we were outside the MUFE pro store.

That's all, and thanks for looking!
