About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

LOTD: Recent Fave Skin Combo & NARS goodies

By recently, I mean the past 2 weeks or so, when I am in a little rush in the morning, and I just want to be quick.  And I hate to admit, but I am on a little BB cream kick... testing out the various ones in my stash, and just slapping them on for work.  I realise for them to last, and look flawless enough, I personally prefer to use a powder foundation, instead of a loose powder.  I won't even apply liquid foundation over, because that somehow feels 'thick'.

And I am beginning to like this Freshel Moist Lift W cream, it is so close to my skintone, there is no grey tone, and nothing too warm nor beigy.  It is also the BB cream that looks the most natural, like a foundation on my skin.

By setting it with a powder foundation, my base makeup lasts a good 8 hours everyday.  I need to blot every 4 - 5 hours though.

    [all products used]

    Face:

Freshel Moist Lift W Cream, Lancome Dual Finish Powder

    Cheeks:

Chanel Bronze Rose - as both bronzer and blush

    Eyes:

UDPP, NARS Isolde Duo, NARS Abyssina, Heavy Rotation Liquid Liner

    Lips:

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil Walkrie

And after an evening of dinner & drinks by the beach [all outdoors, no air con] and I didn't have my blotters with me, so you are looking at maybe 6 hours later -- yes, my T-zone is starting to looking shiny, but other than that, I am quite happy with the overall effects of this 'new' base combination.

Yup I know the lighting is funky, apologies!

I am soooo tired this past week.  Everyday is so packed to the brim both at work and everywhere else, I havent started packing at all, though I have been doing 'mental' packing.  And I have been trying to jog 5km at least 4 times a week - which I managed to last week.  I feel super bloated too...might be a monthly thing?  But one thing I know, I am really looking forward to this much needed break/ getaway, and also looking forward to spending time with my girl cronies, do lots of sight-seeing and also check out lots of shopping!

I have a couple of entries I want to put up, have the pictures and all, but just can't get to actually doing the thinking and writing about yet... mainly an overview of BB creams in my stash, how I use bronzer to warm up  my skintone without looking crazy, and maybe a what's in my air-travel makeup/skincare bag type of entry.  And I have not done the 'how much is my face worth' tag entry which I saw on Hazel's blog [thinking of a 'logical' way to do the tag]...

Oh well.  It's late, I should get to zzzzz for 2 more [gruelling] days of work.  I think I miss entries like these, where I am semi-rambling about nothing much in general, you know?  Sometimes it does not always have to be all about oh this product, and that product, blah blah blah.... :)
