About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. Dior Vernis 307 Nymphea [featuring Dior Gel Coat]

    Hi hi

A couple of weeks back, I purchased the new Dior Nymphea nail polish (which is released as part of the new DiorSnow collection) there are two other polishes in this collection (a shimmery sheer white and a baby pink).  The pale blue green immediately attracted me, and I know I had to have it.

Nymphea has a smooth glossy finish, and I applied 3 thin coats here for maximum opaque - you can see slight bald spots with 2 coats, fyi.

I also applied the new upcoming Dior Gel Coat in this set of swatches - it is very glossy, and gives a glassy (yes, glassy) finish to the nail polish.  The dry time is about 10 minutes before they feel 'dry' to the touch.

Overall, if you like mint/ pale jade color, do check out Nymphea.  I had thought that it will be so similar to other similar shades in my stash, but comparing Nymphea to two other 'famous' blue-green, you can see that they aren't the same at all.

Nymphea might be a softer (less stark) version of Essie Mint Candy Apple (which I also have, but didn't swatch side by side).

    Swatches -

Comparisons - Chanel Nouvelle Vague is darker, and more green.

Dior Saint Tropez is darker, and more blue...

Hope this has been helpful, and thank you for looking!

DIOR Vernis Plaza, Incognito, Riviera & Lucky [Photos & Swatches]

I picked up two more Dior Vernis from their Dior Addict Extreme range - Rivera & Lucky, kind of to complete the collection of the four iconic shades in this range of new lipsticks.  I also picked up the Incognito Addict Extreme lipstick to match the nail polish, and I will show that in a later entry.

The formula of these nail polish are super smooth and creamy, and apply like a dream.

I do have to use 3 coats of Incognito to make it really opaque, but the rest of the colors are fully opaque in two even coats, and are all super super glossy.

For more product information, click on the following

Previous swatch entry on Incognito & Plaza Link!

    Collection Information Link!

All four shades look totally fabulous:

Incognito - a very wearable nearable soft beige shade

    Riveria - electric sunny orange

Lucky - bold bright almost neon pink

Plaza - neutral intense pink (one of my fave flattering pinks)

and some lovely gifts with purchase!

    Dior Addict temporary tattoo set

    super super cute

and some charms - I bought 3 items, so I got 3 charms...

    cute much?

You can hang them on your keychain, but they look equally nice on a bracelet

and speaking of bracelets, I need to devote a full entry on my bracelet collection soon!

DIOR Icy Halos Vernis 021 Icy Dew & 191 Glacier [Photos & Swatches]

I bought both the nail polish released with Dior's Asia exclusive DiorSnow & Icy Halos collection last week.  I has seen pictures and featured this collection in this entry HERE. I didn't have any intention to purchase any of the nail polish, because there are (ahem) a few more which will be released in April which I have my heart absolutely set on getting.  But the BA swatched them on the back of my hand with a piece of tape, and I saw how the icy shades sparkle and glisten in the lights, I was SOLD.  I also bought one other product -- and together with the whole bunch of samples I received, I will be sharing with you my thoughts on almost the whole new DIORSnow range of base products soon (which includes the makeup base, bb cream and concealer).   Anyway, I digress.  Back to the nail polish.

They are both pale icy shades, ICY DEW is a whiteish pink pearlescent shade with fine gold glitter bits.  It takes 3 coats to get full opaqcity, and you can prolly layer this shade over another pale shade.  I don't use it over a darker base thought, because the pearlescent base of this nailpolish is not as sheer.

GLACIER is a icy cool toned baby blue with subtle shimmer.  It is an interesting blue that can appear both warm, and cool toned, almost like a duochrome but within the shades of pale blue.  It is opaque in two coats - a very very light airy pale blue which is quite unique in my collection as most of my blues are very rich creamy ones.

    Photos & swatches:

putting Dior's ICY DEW & Chanel's Pearl Drop side by side

you can see that Pearl Drop is a golden warm shade

while Icy Dew is a pinkier shade

kind of like cheek highlight powders, you have the golden warm tone of highlight, and also the pink pearlescent highlight

my pictures aren't showing up - and I really should have waited for natural morning daylight - but I hope you get the general idea of the nuances of both pale shade

this is the mini DIOR haul which I made, the BA was helpful,

and generous with the samples, she let me try out the Diorsnow skincare products too

I have been liking the DiorSnow base routine lately - lovely finish - and that's no foundation at all - and it lasts the whole day.  Can't wait to get my review entry up.

That's all, and thank you for looking.
