About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

No ads, no paid links etc please.  I am in charge of all content and pictures here.

I am not a makeup artist, nor do I have any professional training in makeup.

Current Fave Scent: DIOR ADDICT Eau Delice

    DIOR ADDICT EAU DELICE

Making women more beautiful and happier was an on-going quest for Christian Dior.
Every fragrance and every dress, every colour and every flower were chosen by the couturier- perfumer to enhance and charm.
Bursting with this energy, the Dior Addict woman is a beauty with a feline gait, a defiant glint in her eye and a sulky pout. In her wake, all is carefree and laughing seduction.

For her, a new fragrance has been created, with the seductive name of "Eau Délice."

Eau Délice is a voluptuous and fresh fragrance.
It springs forth, bursting with sassy youth.
    A cocktail of
    joie-de-vivre under the Saint-Tropez sun.

    Saint-Tropez & “ la plage des délices”

Red chairs on the terrace of the Sénéquier, the La Madrague beach, and the narrow streets of sunny charm... Saint-Tropez is the eternal port of casual elegance.

With her tousled blonde hair, the Dior Addict heroine seems to spring forth from the unforgettable images of “And God Created Woman.”

She too sets the screen on fire, shaking off convention and constraint, playing as she lives, and living true to herself.

She charms you then forgets you, leads you on without a care.

With her, Dior Addict continues the Tropezien myth that is cool and rebellious, light-hearted and carefree.

Dior Addict Eau Délice, easy living, easy loving.

With Eau Délice, François Demachy, the Dior Perfume Creator, has created a perfume with "instant charm" that embodies the youthful elegance of a confident young girl.
Its scent is instantly easy to live with and easy to love.

Behind this refreshing spontaneity, Eau Délice's composition is finely facetted. This addictive fragrance calls for a generous gesture, and boundless love:

"The name Eau Délice conjures up a precise image of the fragrance. It is a 'delicious' perfume that is appreciated once you have 'tasted' it."

    Dior Addict Eau Délice, mouth-watering

A luminous chapter in the light-hearted saga of Dior Addict, Eau Délice is a striking scent composition.

A mouth-watering fruity and floral composition. A magic formula for a cool beauty.

A manifesto for joie de vivre.

Voluptuous Eau Délice emphasizes the sweet and sour notes of the Cranberry. This entrance is both sharp and delicate, opening onto a fresh floral heart note. It is here that Indian and Egyptian Jasmine Grandiflorum, and the rare and exceptional Mahoran Ylang Ylang bloom.

In the background, white musks add density, distinction and a cottony softness.
    For light and soothing sensuality.

    Dior Addict, a scent wardrobe

DIOR ADDICT is a scent universe as rich as a colour palette.
These winning fragrances invite change, prompting you to have fun with each moment of the day, varying your style and enjoyment.

    Dior Addict Eau Delice
A new luminous, voluptuous and fresh scent.
She is as vivacious as a seductive Coral Red.
Her flower is the fruity accord of the sweet and sour Cranberry. She wears a sexy, fiery red dress.

    Dior Addict Eau Fraîche

A bright, fresh and yet woody composition.
She is as radiant as a bright sparkling pink.
Her flower is the Freesia and she wears a diaphanous, swirling silk chiffon dress.

    Dior Addict Eau Sensuelle

A Floral and sensual, harmonious and luminous scent.
She is as charming as a tender mauve.
Her flower is the Rose and she wears a silky, lilac-coloured dress.

    Dior Addict Eau de Parfum

An oriental and modern, smooth and vibrant creation.
She is as deep as Midnight Blue.
Her flower is the opulent Queen of the Night, and she wears an intense blue, figure-hugging dress.

    Why I love it?

It has a very unique fruity scent which still has that musky undertones. Even though it is an EDT, it lasts on me pretty well for a good 6-8 hours.  I love how the scent changes on me throughout the day, slightly sweet and very warm (but not overpowering at all).   It's been a long time since I enjoyed a scent like this (last one being YSL Parisienne) and I highly recommend it!

    Price Information

Dior Addict Eau Delice EDT Spray 20ml $78

Dior Summer 2013 Bird of Paradise Collection 374 Blue Lagoon

    Hi hi!

This just arrived, and I am posting the swatches at this point.  Might follow up with an LOTD, depending on my schedule... but this is part of the Dior Summer 2013 collection - in 374 Blue Lagoon.  There's another quint released with this collection, and you can click on my previous entry for more pictures and information.

The palette is beautiful, and if you have a weakness for the shades of blue and teal in this quint, you kind of need to get this soon.  I am not much of a blue/teal fan as far as makeup colours go, but I do see myself enjoying the two darkest metallic shades in this quint.

Here are some close up of the quint:

    Swatches:

The top right shade (shown here in the middle among the five shades) is quite pale and sheer, but the rest of the colors have pretty good payoff.

The quint retails for $90 each, and is currently available at all Dior counters.

Hope these swatches have been helpful, and thanks for reading!

Dior Summer 2013 Bird of Paradise Collection 001 PINK GLOW [Photos & Comparisons]

Dior Summer 2013 Bird of Paradise Collection features a must get Bronzer & Blush duo... it is the perfect pairing of a blush and a bronzer, and this pair of shades will soon become my everyday face accompliment.

This summer, Dior introduces a multi-faceted product that provides all the tools for achieving fresh-faced beauty. A unique hybrid of bronzing powder and high-pigment blush, Dior’s signature cannage patterned compact holds a quartet of bronzy shades and bright tones ideal for illuminating the complexion and sculpting cheekbones. The iridescent harmonies blend seamlessly to create a multi-dimensional effect, while complementary light and dark shades provide subtle highlighting and define the natural contours of the face.

I love all my Dior summer bronzers from previous years, and this no exception.  This retails for $90 (9.5g) as compared to last year's bronzer (10g, $70+, go figure).  But if you buy this at airport DFS it's $76 each.
The bronzer/ blusher duo comes with a velvet pocket pouch and its own kabuki brush - which is very good quality by the way.  They are great to include in your makeup bag should you need to touch up during the day.

Here's a closer look:   The embossing is just exquisite.

and a swatch of both shades side by side.
I think I will try to get my hands on Coral Glow if I have the chance..

As you can see my Dior Bronzers from last summer are very very very well loved.
They are that kind of bronzers which is perfect for my light skintone.  The powder is so fine, and very soft.  I would compare these to my Guerlain bronzers and blushes.

A comparison of Dior bronzers from the past 3 seasons.  They are all very similar no doubt.  I like they are are not shimmery and yet not entirely matte.  They give my skin the most natural warmth, and I just LOVE LOVE LOVE them.

Hope this entry is helpful, and thank you for reading!

LOTD: Easy Smokey with Burberry Midnight Brown

    Hi hi!

This post is dedicated to my love for Burberry Midnight Brown eyeshadow.  I have this for quite sometime, and lately I keep reaching for it, and just literally slapping it all over my eyelids for a very quick smokey eyelook on the weekends.  It is so easy to blend, and just looks really flattering for me.  It is not too metallic, gives a good sheen and just blends itself out so well.  I would totally put this in my top 3 must have eyeshadows.

(btw this post is also dedicated to a very kind reader - anonymous - who always leaves me comments about my 'duck lips': because there's going to be so many of my duck lips face pictures in this LOTD entry, isn't it awesome? Yay!)

So anyway, back to this beautiful eyeshadow - It is a rather warm deep brown, and is super soft.  I usually just use my MAC217 brush to pick up the product, and apply it all over my lids.  When the eyeshadow is blended, it looks like a natural crease colour.  Then I would pat on more eyeshadow on the eyelids, to intensify the colour there, and to give more definition to the eyes.

    Close up and swatches below:

and the eyeshadow in action on my eyelids:

See how softly it blends upwards?

and a close up of my lipstick combo:

Dior Delice lipstick & matching Delice lipgloss (my fave lately, it's a nice glossy smooth juicy orange!)  And the gloss contains the prettiest sparkles which can be seen in certain lighting.

And lots of selfies duck face lips

    All products used:

Face - MAQUiLLAGE Perfect BB Base, Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion foundation, Chanel Natural Finish Loose Powder

Concealers - YSL Touche Eclat under the eyes, set with Benefit Powderflage, Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage

Cheeks - Dior Skin Nude 003 Zenith bronzer, Dior Rosy Glow, Dior Skin Shimmer 001 to highlight

Brows - UD Naked Basics, Shu Uemura Brow Manicure Ash Brown

Lips - Dior Addict Extreme 433 Delice, Dior Addict Extreme Gloss Delice

Eyes - NARS Primer, Burberry Midnight Brown eyeshadow, and I used a little Pale Barley on the crease just for the heck of it.  But you really just need Midnight brown.  Lined my eyes with THREE pencils in 04 on upper lids, 07 on the lower lids. I also used Heavy Rotation liquid liner closer to my lashline.  Lashes are my own customised pair.  Brighten up the inner corner of my eyes with MUFE aqua pencil in 32E.

    Lenses - Blincon Choco Brown

Clothes - white tee HM, tweedy cardi HM, rings HM  (ahaha purely coincidental!)

    Nails - Chanel Malice

Found this behind the scenes in my camera roll... haha the things we do...

That's all, and thanks for looking!

    Happy Weekend!

    Dior Shimmer Powder Amber Diamond

    Hi hi!

I had to get my hands on Dior Amber Diamond - and I am glad to get it before the thing gets discontinued!  It is so highly talked about, much raved as an amazing face highlighter and even though I already have lots and lots of the other 'famous' highlighters, I still wanted this.  And it's also many of my friends' fave highlighters...well, all that just sold me!  (and also Mabel's recent review totally pushed me over!)

I think it retails for S$71...and I got it at Tangs Orchard.

The package is very classic Dior, in their dark blue sleek packaging.    The powder doesn't come with a brush.

Here's a pic of the powder.... Gorgeous!

A close up.  It contains 5 shades of a golden tan.... from the palest off white to a healthy radiant tan shade.  When swirled together, they give the cheeks a warm glow.

Here are the 5 shades swatched - the darker stripes has a peachy sheen to it... while the paler shades remind me of NARS Albatross.

The texture is very fine, and the sheen is very subtle... it is not an in your face kind of shine, but the effect is there.

I then used my finger and swirled all the swatches together... and this is what I got.  which is a closer match to what it would look like when applied.

I can see myself using this quite often.  Because it actually has some color, I can also use it to blend blushes...and also use on the eyes for some all over the eyelids action.

Just one more look - I am so glad I managed to get this!

That's all, and thanks for looking!
