About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

LOTD: Chanel Rouge Allure - Rouge Byzantin

When my gf gave me her Chanel Rouge Byzantin, I was super excited to give it a try.  And it is actually a very wearable fuschia red, that contains the finest red micro-shimmer.  Rouge Byzantine was released as part of Chanel Byzance Collection in 2011.  It is very pigmented, and easy to wear.  I swiped it across my lips twice, and it gave the most perfect opaque color.

Here are swatches on my hands and lips

And the whole look.  I kept the rest of the face very simple but defined.  I think it seems to bring out the cooler undertones in my skin, which seems perfect for fall, IF we have a fall season here. Le sigh.

Love love love this latest red lipstick in my stash!

I think I need to wear red more often!

That's all, and thanks for reading. :)

Haul! Chanel Rouge Allure Super & OPI Catch Me in Your Net!

I think the Chanel counters restocked their Summer collection, and now both colors are available (at Vivo and Robinson, that I know for sure).  So since I have Genial, I think I need Super.  Both brights, and both look gorgeous together, don't you think?   And these Rouge Allure lipsticks feel creamy and amazing when applied.  And the clicking action when you whip it out of the casing is just so chic..... LOVES chanel lipsticks!

Chanel Rouge Allure S$44 each. Worth every penny.

All my LOTD pictures today are epic fail (blame it on my big/ small eyes) , so I ended up with only this decent picture which doesn't really look like me, hence I went all out and adjusted the colors beyond recognition.

I am sporting MAC Woodwinked e/s on the lids and MAC Angel blush on my cheeks.  Super on the lips.

And one more item... which I prolly should have ordered from Gwen's spree.. but didn't want to complicate matters by adding last minute changes, but anyway, there is something about getting the item immediately which I like... so I grabbed it at Palz.  This color is called Catch Me In Your Net, which is from theOPI Summer Flutter Collection (think bright flowery and butterfly garden etc).

From all lacquered up, Catch Me In Your Net is "an eye popping sea green foil metallic".    When I saw this color in person, I am SOLD.  Enough said.

These 2 brand new goodies wrap up this little haul entry.  Thanks for reading.  :)

    May 2010 Faves!

Hi hi,  here are the products which I have really enjoyed and used quite often this month.  The month of April, well, is another haul-filled month, MUFE haul, MAC Haul, Nail Polish haul. I also attended a couple of fab events got some great stuff which I look forward to trying out.  I also have a a skincare review which will be posted in another week's time, so stay tuned for that.

You might have already noticed these products being mentioned in recent LOTDs, and may not come as a surprise at all.  Some are old, some are new.

    • Sana Pore Putty Base (not sure, bought this in Japan last yr, but it is readily available at all Watsons or SASA) - I prolly should do a review on this, let me know if you are interested, and I will do one.

    • MUFE Concealer Palette in No1 ($56 I think) - This is like having a bunch of MAC Studio Finish concealers at your disposal. It is thick  but great for my undereyes and redness around the nose.  Doesn't cake either, for me at least.   Notice how I abandon the use of my MAC Studio Sculpt so abruptly.  Hahha.

    • MAC Instant Chic Blush ($27 I think)  Great unique color that you can just slap on without worrying about being too strong or whatever.  It also fits into my own bright coral obsession lately.

    • MAC Blackline ($27 I think) - Love this for smudgy lower eyes, and it sets and doesn't bleed or mess up.

    • Maquillage PK715 Glossy Rouge ($49)  - Perfect lipstick to wear over anything color and make it wearable.  I like to layer this over Sonnet for some shine and creaminess.

    • Bourjois Mineral Brush ($12)  -  I did a giveaway, because I love this brush! So cute, so portable, so soft, and blends EVERYTHING, cream, powder, you name it.

    • Chanel's Mystic Eyes Quad ($84) - Perfect quad.  I would totally  recommend getting at least one of these Chanel quads.  Quality, great colors, and perfect for travel and touch ups too.

    • Blackberry Storm (paid less than $100, depending on promo and usage plans). LOL.  I have this phone for almost one year.  It connects me to twitter, email, FB, keeps me company with songs, web browser, allows me to twipic spam, and just keeps me connected.  I think my fingers are attached to my BB like 80% of the time, it's sick.

Yup, that's about it.  I can't name any fave nail polish, cos I have been such a nail polish sl*t this month,  every color I love, and I can't decide.

If you have any questions or would like to request a review of any items mentioned, leave a comment below!

Haul: Jo Malone Perfume & Chanel Rouge Allure!

I have been watching a new person on YT lately, and if you have been reading my blog long ago, you know how often I am suckered into buying something just because I have seen it featured in a YT video.  If you read lollipop26, she recently 'recommended' some YT people she likes to watch, and one day I found myself browsing and watching this new girl's videos.  She is none other than Dara (YT username BelleDuJourNYC) and her blog is equally nice to read.  She is so pretty, and she hauls fabulous stuff, and she lives in NYC, works as a fashion buyer.  I am sold!  Haha.  I am always suckered into buying stuff if I think that a particular person I am watching/ reading as good taste, and Dara is very urban modern chic and cool.  I likey.

And that explains why I bought the following two items.  *shamefaced*

Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey Cologne  (S$190 for 100ml, S$95 for 30ml)   I am not going to mess up the description of this scent, so after a check at the website, this is the "definition" of the fragrance.

'a delicious and fruit fragrance that tells a story of an early morning visit to London's Covent Garden Flower Market, a sweetly scent oasis in the heart of the city. This youthful fragrance wraps the notes of enticing fruits and the delicate spring flowers in the warmth of acacia honey'

There is a Jo Malone store in Singapore, at Ngee Ann City (two levels above Zara).  The packaging is to die for, so luxe, so chic, I feel like I am buying a present for myself!  Love love the bag, the box, the ribbon, for that price... well, maybe it is expected after all.  I am so not complaining!  :)  I am also tempted to get the body lotion... but it is OOS.... hmmm..... I have been wanting to get a perfume lately, most likely Chanel's ALLURE, which is in the same price range if not slightly more.  However, I think I am very very contented with this for now. It smells divine, seriously.  I actually tried on this perfume the previous day, and by the end of the day, the residual scent was still fresh and peachy, which means my body acids is reacting well to this fragrance.  It is so meant to be!

This will replace my lemming for Chanel's ALLURE which I have been thinking of re-purchasing, but well, I am very contented for now!  :)  Can't wait to spray this all over!

And the next purchase is a Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in 187 Genial.  This is from the Summer 2010 collection, which is selling out fast, if not already OOS at the counters.  This costs $44, which is cheaper than the Rouge Allure Lacquer (S$49).  The packaing is super sleek, it is the 'clicking' one, which I thought is so chic! Makes you want to whip out the lipstick and touch up all the time.

The colors of the pictures don't do this color justice.  It looks different in all the various lighting conditions, ranging from a true bright coral, to fuschia and also almost neon.  I like how it brightens up my face without making me look like a clown.

That's all, I think I better stop hauling til my Hong Kong trip!

    Thanks for reading.

LOTD: Neutral Eyes and Bright Coral Pink Lips (Chanel's Genial & MAC's Instant Chic)

    Hi!

I bought a new Chanel lipstick, from the new summer collection, it is a Rouge Allure.. I swear  I am turning into a chanel lipstick addict.  The packaging, the colors, the texture, omg.  Anyway, this is a almost neon bright coral pink.  I will explain the whole deal about this product in a haul entry later tonight.

    Face: Foundation routine

    Cheeks: MAC Instant Chic (LE)

Lips: Chanel Rouge Allure Genial (LE)

Eyes: Chanel Mystic Eyes Quad and a little of Shu Uemura White Rainbow pat into the inner corner of the eyes

Liners and Lashes: Loreal Superliner, and Palz lashes

I am into trying out these bright lips lately, they are so in for the season, and every brand is releasing all these yummy colors.... Love them.  Life is too short not to try out new lip colors, and that also explains why I am going to be using ALL my lipsticks instead of keeping them in storage.  At least if I don't get to finish them in their lifetime, they got some exposure, and make me happy!  Cheers to that!!

If it's good enough for Cameron, it's good enough for me

Haha! What a funny mouthful of a title there.

I was looking at temptalia's Golden Globe coverage, and this lovely picture of Cameron Diaz caught my eye, because in the MU description, it says she is wearing Chanel's Rouge Allure Lacque in Dragon.

Picture and text taken from Temptalia, and click here for the full coverage.

And for Cameron's breakdown, click here.

    Beauty Breakdown:

“I used the gold shadow from the CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow in Mystic Eyes in the outer corner of Cameron’s lids and crease, and then I used the darker peach and gold mixed together from CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow Quad in Demure on her lids. I lined her eye with CHANEL Precision Eye Definer in Khaki Dore, and finished with CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir. On her lips she wore CHANEL Rouge Allure Laque in Dragon.”  — Robin Fredriksz, Makeup Artist

I think I shall try to make Dragon my weekend lipcolor.  It deserves more usage!

    Thanks for reading!

    Off for a jog now~
