Lancôme Vernis in Love: Boudoir Time Nail Art [Step by Step] & LOTD!

Hi hi!

Just sharing a simple nail art design which you can create with a few simple items - I have swatched all the Lancôme Vernis in Love, and thought I would share with you some nail art combinations incoporating the colors, and also some nailart supplies items which you might already have in your stash, or else you can go to somewhere like PNC or Daiso to get some of these items which I am going to use in my simple tutorial.

Nail Art products

Small Pearl Studs (available at nail art supplies store, such as PNC)

It's very easy, as you can see in the steps below.
I wanted to go for a non-uniformed uniformed look - layering and alternating the two shades of blue in the design, and throwing in the tiny pearl studs to make the look a little more interesting. Also the pearl studs look neutral enough to go with any color combination, depending on the look you are going for.

There are some very beautiful purples in the Boudior Time polishes, but I decided to create my nail art with the blues instead.

I picked up the tiny pearl studs with the tip of a wet toothpick - this gives you control over where you want to place the stud.

So happened that I have a somewhat matchy top to go with the nail art design and the overall LOTD.
I would have gone all matchy with a teal/ blue eyelook, but I think I still want to go for a relatively office friendly look, with a warm gold eyelook and pink gloss.

The overall look - you would also notice that I am wearing much more natural lashes, instead of my usual very thick ones.
The Teint Miracle foundation has a very radiant finish, but do also note that it was scorching hot when I took these LOTD pictures, so if I look a little 'too radiant' I blame it on the hot afternoon heat!

Overall, the nailart is something which I feel is work friendly, and also fun enough for when you want to go out after work...

LOTD: Bloodroses & Cabana Boy

Hallo!

Yesterday we brought the Mother out for shabu-shabu dinner just in my area, and I decided to incoporate some of the new goodies which I have featured a few entries earlier - Kevyn Aucoin, Lancome and The Balm blushers.

I think I really like the Lancome x Alber Elbaz Wide Eyes Palette - it is very versatile, and the metallic sheen of each of the shades just instantly makes even a simple smokey eyes look instantly glam. In this LOTD, I have only used a mixture of shades 1 and 2 (indicated in the pic below) on my lids, and I used a matte brown (Naked 2) from my Urban Decay Basics palette to blend in around the crease. Then I quickly lined my upper lids with a black liquid liner, throw on the falsies and I am done. I did not use any browbone highlight as usual.

Kept the rest of the face very clean, I did not use my usual foundation, just BB cream and loose powder. The result is a very natural and dewy effect to my skin.
I knew I wanted to use my new lipstick, Bloodroses, so I applied it straight from the tube, and softly blend out the edges a bit.
I dusted my usual bronzer around my face, and followed with The Balm Cabana Boy on my cheeks. It is a plummy pink that seems to make my face look brighter.

LOTD: Lancôme x Alber Elbaz Wide Eyes Eyeshadow Palette [Step by Step]

Hi hi!

Just a LOTD entry featuring the new Lancôme x Alber Elbaz eyeshadow palette and I will try to talk through what I did to create this look. I took these pictures a week ago... so I hope I can still remember exactly what I did.

I have here the 'Wide Eyes' palette - it consists of five shades, a rather warm taupe themed palette. The shimmers in some of these shades are simply beautiful, and creates a very dramatic smokey eyelook, depending on how you mix and match the colours. I probably got slightly carried away with the application of these eyeshadows, and somehow ended up looking very heavily made up (according to me anyway), but I think I have tried to 'show off' the colors in this palette.

As the following pictures show, here's what I did:

1. Apply lid color to my eyeslids - which I have already primed with NARS eyeshadow primer.

2. Apply the main lid color (No 1) all over the lids.

3. I also used a little of No 3 as a blending shade on the crease.

4. I applied No 2 on the outer V of my eyelids.

5. I used No 4 as a liner, to define the shape of the eyes.

6. I used No 5 as a inner corner highlighter.

7. Slap on the lashs, fill in my brows.

8. I also followed the same steps under my eyes, using mainly No 2 to define the lower eyelids.

The completed look - please pardon my stray brow hairs.

Overall, I really enjoy this palette. It offers great eyeshadow formulation, the shimmer colors are gorgeous and complex enough for the neutral shadows in this palette to look dramatic and interesting. The pale irisdescent pink is prone to fall outs which you might have noticed so you might want to use it over a cream base.

The palette retails for S$90 if I remember correctly. It will be available mid-june at Sephora.

Four Gorgeous Lancôme Rouge in Love [Swatches & LOTDs]

Hi hi!

In this entry, I will be sharing with you four brand new shades extension to the existing Lancôme Rouge in Love collection. These are just four out of the six shades which will be launched in June 2013.

The Rouge in Love lipsticks have a very creamy almost balm like formula, plus they deliver a soft touch of colour. I won't say that they are intensely pigmented (note that these have a different formulation from the US Rouge in Love), but they are some of the most hydrating lipstick formula I have tried. These lipsticks last on my lips for about 3 - 4 hours, and they apply very smoothly without looking too patchy.

Look at how shiny and creamy they look in the tubes:

Lip swatches, followed by a LOTD for the overall feel of the lipstick. More details on what I used on the rest of my face will be posted in a subsequent entry. Everything used is Lancôme, and my top is from ASOS.

174B Crazy Tangerine looks bright red in the tube, but it is actually a very wearable warm red shade. It's something I could easily slap on my lips without even looking into the mirror. If you are scared of red lipsticks, but want to venture into wearing them, I recommend this.

232M is a nude shade with silvery shimmer, very fine, they are almost invisible, but the sheen is there.

It is a natural shade that goes well with a dramatic eye look. I like how the sheen gives my lips some 3D dimension.

Next, is 345B, which is a candy pink shade. This is super creamy and very wearable because of the sheerish payoff.

Goes well with a cool toned smokey eyelook.

Lastly, we have 357B a natural pinky shade, after the crazy Tangerine, this is my fave of the new shades. It is my lips but pinker kind of color.

And an overall look. It goes with any makeup look, in my opinion.

Lancôme Mat Miracle 24H Foundation Review & Application

This will be a review of the new Lancôme Mat Miracle Foundation, I have been mostly using it for the past month, and I think I am ready to give it my overview.

Here's a quick rundown of the product details:

Here are swatches on my hand - I am using the shade O-01, which is the lightest shade. It is a good match for my skin, slightly brighter which is my preferred shade.. If I am feeling torn between two matching shades, I usually pick the one which looks brighter on my skin.
As you can see the foundation blends into a smooth and velvety finish on my hand.

Here's a quick rundown of the application - I used sunscreen on my face, followed by the liquid foundation.

I prefer to use a buffing brush to apply and blend the foundation. It is quite creamy, and I usually apply and blend each side of my face as I go along..and finish off with a overall blending to ensure everything is smooth.

I find that the coverage of the foundation is medium buildable to full...though I don't actually suggest that you do so. It is really much better to apply and spread a thin layer of foundation, and only use more product on areas (or a concealer) where you need to.

With this foundation, I find that I can easily create a long lasting flawless finish. The trick really is to use a little at a time, and use less than what you think you need. It blends and spreads out to cover quite a lot, so the first few times I used it, I think I had used too much product, I thought it didn't really sit very well on me.
Later on, I tried using less product, and really work it into my skin, and that's when I realise that the product is able to blend in properly, and give my skin a soft matte finish. It is not entirely matte-matte...it's more of a fresh looking matte (not dry looking) - thanks to the aura technology of the foundation.

I usually set my liquid foundations with a loose powder, so in this case, I used my Lancome Teint Miracle loose powder, but you can use any loose powder that you have at the moment.

The finished blended and set with loose powder look. I think you can see that there is still a subtle glow to my skin, and the coverage of the foundation is pretty decent.

I have worn this foundation out on many ocassions, and to work and I can say that it didn't oxidise on me throughout the day (and we have been experiencing some of the most horrid humid days lately) - the foundation holds up quite well, and I still look relatively fresh by the end of the day. Obviously I haven't worn the foundation for 24 hours, but I would say it lasted a good 12 hours. I blot twice a day usually, and skip touching up with powder unless I am going out.

Here's another look when I am wearing the foundation - note that I did not use any primer - I found it slightly unnecessary (shock horror!) these days. But the foundation alone is able to provide me enough coverage and longevity without the help of a primer, and this is one impressive feature I noticed.

and of course, Joey and I both tested out the foundation during our Mat Miracle day out (click here for her entry) - you can see how the foundation wear on both of us.

Overall, I would compare this long wearing foundation to the Shiseido Radiant Lifting foundation - in the same price range, same matte radiant finish which is long lasting - though I would say that the Shiseido foundation has slightly more coverage. Urban Decay Naked Foundation has the same finish, but way more lightweight. The Lancôme Mat Miracle is also very similar to Chanel Perfection Lumiere.

All these are just based on my personal experience testing out the various foundations - if you have any specific foundation that you want me to compare this to, please leave your questions in the comments below.

I would recommend this foundation - in recent years, I have come to really enjoy using Lancôme foundations, and I love the Teint Miracle - so if you love the beautiful finish of Teint Miracle but need more coverage, I think you would love the Mat Miracle.

LOTD: Quick & Wearable Reds

Hallo!

Just a quick LOTD with my somewhat matching red nails and lips. This took me about 10 minutes to slap on, and out of the house I went.

I skipped the primer, and focused on having neat brows and a pop of color on the lips. I know there's nothing really 'new' to this LOTD..but I rotate my products all the time, so it's nice to experience different product combinations.

LOTD: NARS Grand Palais & Dressed to Kill

Last of the blog entries for today, I think. Busy week ahead, but glad I managed to find some time to take lots of pictures, still meet up with my friends, watch a movie and enjoy the weekend! Will try to post a random chat entry mid week.

There will also be a blogsale happening on Wednesday around 11am. Everything must be cleared, so the prices are kept really low.

I decided to select of NARS products in this entry, and ended up with a very natural eyelook and a berry red lips look.
Here are the two stars of this LOTD.

I applied the taupe shade all over my lids. And the matte pink brown shade on the crease to blend out the color. I left the brow bone bare, because I didn't feel like any brow bone color these days. I feel that not using a brow bone color makes the eye look more effortless, and youthful.

Here you can see the gold sparkles in Dressed to Kill. It's not very obvious from far though. The color is very long lasting and leaves a nice stain afterwards. This came in their 2013 Spring collection, and might still be available.

lashes - YSL faux cils on lower lashes (thickening AND lengthening), my customised lashes

Met up with my girlfriend who came back from her worktrip, and we went bag browsing at Celine and Chanel. Lots of BOY BOY BOY! Hmmmm....

A Mat Miracle Day out with Lancôme

Hi hi!

A couple of Fridays ago, Joey and I spent a totally relaxing and fun afternoon to night testing out the latest Lancôme Mat Miracle long wearing foundation. We met up in the late afternoon, just in time for a lovely tea at the Rose Veranda at Shangri La Hotel. We picked this awesome place, as it's the just the place to be for a cosy catching up with your girlfriends. The setting and ambient is so beautiful, surrounded by the hotel's lush greenery - and they have an impressive selection of food and sweets, including more than 160 varieties of tea to suit your taste buds.
I had the iced Shangri La tea, while Joey picked the Happy Birthday tea (since it was just 2 days before her actual birthday!)

Do note that all the pics I took were from my iphone, and credit for all the actual camera shots are courtesy of Joey.

Of course, we took lots of pictures to document the afternoon, and so be prepared for lots of selfies!

Here's a selection of the Lancôme makeup items we used on our faces that day - I will give a full breakdown at the end of this entry.

After tea, we took a few pictures, much to the amusement of the staff, who actually kindly offered to take our pics, but we prefer to make goofy facial expressions ourselves.

And then we put on our shades just for the fun of it. Both our shades are Celine (purely coincidental, we didn't plan our wardrobe nor accessories heheh).

There was better lighting outside the ladies, so the picture quality here is way better and clearer. I didn't use any powder to blot my face after tea, though I did blot for a fresher look. As you can see our faces still look fresh and luminous, this is about 2 hours after application.

Then we met up with Sarah for dinner and a little bit of shopping. Here we are at Jo Malone.

and then we popped by the Lancôme counter to have a few pictures taken with the Mat Miracle display (we asked for permission, like tourists heheheh).

And a final shot at the end of the night, at Maison Kayser at Scotts Square. This was after a very spicy and fulfilling dinner!

Overall, it was a great Friday, one of the best ways to end the week, as I often look forward to catching up with my friends after a hectic workweek.

I will have a more detailed review of the Mat Miracle foundation in a follow up entry so you can see how it applies on me. But from my experience of wearing this out recently, it has quite a matte finish, and I didn't have to blot my face much throughout the day. It is certainly long wearing, though I wish it has the radiant finish of the Teint Miracle foundation. Nonetheless, it is a great overall foundation, and something to check out if you are looking for a long wearing, relatively matte foundation. You can also ask for samples at the counters to try it out before making your purchase.

Base: UV Expert SPF 50 PA+++ BB Complete, Mat Miracle Foundation, set with Teint Miracle loose powder.
I also used NARS reflecting pressed powder to finish the whole look before I left the house. I brought along my Teint Miracle pressed powder for touch ups, even though I only use it once much later at night.

Cheeks: Lancôme blush subtil palette 126 Nectar Lace (bronzer, cheek highlight and blush color in one palette) * not availble in SG

Lips: Lancôme gloss No120 (for the peachy shade you see in the pics) and later on there's a reddish one, it's actually NARS Palais Royal worn as stain

Eyes: NARS primer, GA ETK in 28, Heavy Rotation liquid liner, my own customised/layered lashes

NARS Lipsticks: Moscow, Montego Bay & Red Square

Yup, I have a tiny addiction to NARS lippies, in whatever shape, colour or form. (well, actually that might not be true - I don't think I will like their velvet gloss pencils, nor the sheer tinted lip balms or those pot lip colors). But give me any lipstick, stain lip pencil, matte lip pencil... I will be all over them! When Saks had a recent free shipping promotion (sometime back) I quickly took the chance to place an order for some random...and really random lipsticks - I just went for the names, and the shades that I imagine them to be.

So here we have

Moscow - a pure matte lipstick - very wearable soft red, neutal undertone.

Red Square - a velvet matte lip pencil- red orangey warm red, have tried this more than once in store, but somehow never got to buying it.

Montego Bay - a pure matte lipstick - a soft pinky nude

LOTD: Easy Smokey with Burberry Midnight Brown

Hi hi!

This post is dedicated to my love for Burberry Midnight Brown eyeshadow. I have this for quite sometime, and lately I keep reaching for it, and just literally slapping it all over my eyelids for a very quick smokey eyelook on the weekends. It is so easy to blend, and just looks really flattering for me. It is not too metallic, gives a good sheen and just blends itself out so well. I would totally put this in my top 3 must have eyeshadows.

(btw this post is also dedicated to a very kind reader - anonymous - who always leaves me comments about my 'duck lips': because there's going to be so many of my duck lips face pictures in this LOTD entry, isn't it awesome? Yay!)

So anyway, back to this beautiful eyeshadow - It is a rather warm deep brown, and is super soft. I usually just use my MAC217 brush to pick up the product, and apply it all over my lids. When the eyeshadow is blended, it looks like a natural crease colour. Then I would pat on more eyeshadow on the eyelids, to intensify the colour there, and to give more definition to the eyes.

Dior Delice lipstick & matching Delice lipgloss (my fave lately, it's a nice glossy smooth juicy orange!) And the gloss contains the prettiest sparkles which can be seen in certain lighting.
