About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Haul! Les Khakis De Chanel (Khaki Vert & Khaki Rose)

A short while back, I dedicated an entry to this collection, made a wishlist including this collection,  and I am very glad that I finally got them!  :)  I got 2 out of the 3 colors in this collection, because I thought that Khaki Brun would just be another 'interesting' shade of brown in my stash.. though it would be nice to get the whole set... why I got 2 of each color  is because the other set is a gift for my gf.  :)

The Khakis De Chanel collection is exclusively available to the opening of the (HUGE) Chanel store in Marina Bay Sands. It will not be launched at the regular counters --- or so that's what we were told.

Here are some pictures of the nail polish in various lighting and 'white balance' conditions... I find it a little hard to capture the exact shade of the colors, they are creamier and more muted IRL than the pictures show.

EDIT:  I re-took the swatch pictures!!  here they are:

I lurve Khaki Vert!  A creamy army green color, and I don't have any dupes, nor anything like it in my stash yet.  I have ordered Essie's Sew Psyched, and when it's here, I might show comparison swatches.

I find Khaki Rose rather similar to Particuliere except that the former is a tinge lighter and with pinkier tones.  Not dupes IMO but very similar.  I am also not sure why it is called Rose.. because I don't see any reddy or pinky shades in this mostly brown color.

and speaking of Particuliere, let's look at them side by side:

And this is my current little stash of Chanel Le Vernis.  I find that those that I have all have very good texture and color payoff, and not all Chanel polishes have the same formulation.   It is best to try them out at the counters, and also check out reviews before making a decision.  The formulation is creamy, but not too thick, and most of the time, 2 even coats give you true color payoff.

I think my next Chanel acquistions might very well be Dragon, Vandetta and/or Rouge Noir.  There is no point in justifying the prices of these nail polishes, so I shan't even bother. I tend to lean towards the LE shades, seeing as they are harder to get, and also being featured at the runway color adds a tad more glam factor to these overpriced goodies somewhat, IMO.

That's all, and thanks for looking!
