About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Collective Haul! (Givenchy, Paul & Joe, Le Sportsac mook)

This will be a little entry on some stuff which I got yesterday.   Yes, we have been busy hauling too!  All pictures in this entry were taken at Macdonalds.  Good lighting and clean background, no?  :)

First off, Kas & I went to the Givenchy etc etc etc sale thing at the warehouse, in the middle of a melting hot afternoon, and I got 2 items.  I think it was the last day, and there were a few powders which I thought I wanted to get but they were OOS by then.  No biggie, seeing as I didn't know what to expect when I was at the sale event.  So I picked up this face prism powder, which reminded me of my MAC msf with shimmer section from the Sonic Chic collection a couple of years back.  This retails for about S$81 at Sephora, and was going for $35 yesterday.

The matte cubes can be used for touch ups, and the shimmery ones may even be used as eyeshadow highlights.  Me likely!

And the next item is from Paul & Joe, and it is a cute eyehadow duo. The brown swatched really pretty, and the black is like Kas said, very inky and matte, smooth and blendable.  Did I mention also how cute the packaging is??  Bought this at S$11.

I didn't get any of the fragrances.. which I now think I should have, they would make good room sprays at my workplace (in the classrooms) but oh well, not going to lug around bottles of perfume the whole day, so I didn't bother.

Also checked out the Jappy mags at Kino, and I bought this Le Sportsac wallet purse thing (with a detachable strap), which would come in very useful for my HK trip in June.   I love this purse!!  :)

I also bought a cute Bourjois mini Kabuki brush, but totally forgot to take pictues in the excitement of all these cute stuff.  I will show them in a later LOTD entry soon.  :)

What is everyone up this weekend?  I have a ton of marking to do (try close to 300 scripts), and in the midst, I will get some entries up, the individual lashes, Mystic Eyes LOTDs  and so on.  Woot!

    Thanks for reading!

Feature report: The inuovi MSP (Part 2) & LOTD!

    Hi!

I went to do my 2nd store visit for the Mystery Shopper Program on Saturday (I got an extended deadline as I received my package late) and this time, I went to Vivocity.  Again, I knew what I wanted, and I was just deciding between the colors to get.  I am a sucker for all of inuovi's Metallogy Eyeshadows all the colors are super pretty, and the color payoff is really impressive.

I got Rose Gold which is a reddish coppery color, I had wanted to get one of the brown/ gold shades, but then I have a million of those colors, and I thought Rose Gold would be something unique in my stash.

And this is a very badly taken close up picture of my eye.  I used the Rose Gold very close to my lashline, and Platinum as a highlight color.  I think I also used MAC All That Glitters e/s on the crease area.  I used Stila Smudge Pot in Gold Noir (yes, that's the actual product name, I previously called it 24kt or something).  And did you notice something???  I used MASCARA!!

I have not used mascara on my own bare lashes in ages.  I didn't curl my lashes here.  I was having some kick with my Givenchy Mascara this morning, and I just coated my very tiny lashes with copious amounts of the mascara, and for good measure I finished off with YSL Faux Cils Mascara.  This is the end (clumpy) result.

On the cheeks, I used a blusher (no name) from one of my Shu Uemura's palette, and Rimmel Airy Fairy lipstick.

Here is a pic of me in my mom's bathroom.

    Printed blouse from fcuk.

I will do in depth reviews/ LOTDS featuring these eyeshadows in due course.  I am really liking them.  And I also want to review the Stila Black Noir Smudge Pot, because that is also another fave item of mine the last few days.

That's all, and thanks for reading!

Benefit @ Sephora ION... and My Crazy One Item Haul

My colleague asked me to come along to the 'opening' of Benefit cosmetics at Sephora ION this afternoon... and so we decked out in our pink t-shirts and checked it out  (it was a pink themed 'party' I think).

We registered, and got ourselves a little goody bag and a box of Kleenex tissues with Aloe & E.  Fancy tissues, girls ~  There wasn't much people at the event, and mainly people just wanted to register and get the little goody bag.  There was a brow wax demo, which I could barely see, because the girl doing the demo was standing BEHIND the counter, and her voice is muffled by the portable mike thingy.  Then there was a makeup demo.  Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with both demos.  My colleague and I wandered off, and she bought a bunch of Benefit products (eye liner, face primer, lip gloss, etc), MAC lip pencil, and Sephora brow pencil and sharpener.  We had fun at the Benefit counter though, cos the MA serving us was very warm and friendly.

And since the Benefit demo event isn't super exciting, I got distracted by the following:

The new Dolce & Gabanna perfumes!!!! I am so lemming No3.  It is a super 'in your face' obnoxious fruit scent.  And No 10 is quite nice too.  Then I also saw OPI nail polishes, but at SGD$23.50 a pop, who wants to buy them off the shelves here??  If they have the OPI for Sephora (hello, Metro Chic? Dark Room?) then I might go crazy hauling.

So, what's in the Benefit goody bag, and what did I buy?

3 Benefit samples: 2.5ml Benetint, "Do it Daily spf10 moisturing lotion", "firmology" toning and soothing serum for face and neck.

I am actually very curious to try out the Benetint.  I think it costs $60++ for the full sized bottle--- very "ouch" on the wallet for a lip stain.

And I FINALLY caved in and bought myself the Givenchy Phenomen' Eyes mascara.  I have been dragging this decision for MONTHS.  Almost a year.  Why?  Because I am not even a mascara user.  I wear falsies if I want lashes. But when I apply this mascara to my false lashes, the results are amazing and I get complimented by random strangers. More importantly, I kind of like the ball-shaped applicator.  And it grabs my lower lashes and lengthens and thickens them like nothing else.  So.... I had to get it...maybe a crazy moment to cheer myself up or something.  It retails for $46.   Those using this mascara, what are your thoughts?

And one more matter before I end this long entry.... BROWS Gel Set products. Yay or Nay?

I have tried MAC brow set, Benefit, and also Sephora brand.  By 'tried' I mean I tried them on at the counters only.  I like how I can brush my hairs upwards, like those runaway models with the bushy 'upward' brow hairs.  And now that my brows are quite hairy (overdue for a trim),  I think the 'upward' brows is kind of nice, and besides I normally use the lightest shade for my brows.  But the MAC and Sephora ones seem really shimmery --- weird.  And the Benefit one is nice, it isn't shimmery but at $40....I don't think I will splurge on that.  Any recommendations?

Here is a silly picture of me with the brushed up brow hairs (I had on a mixture of the Benefit and Sephora brow gel).  I know my own hair is ultra black and they don't match my brows.. but I like my brows very light, defined but 'hairy'.  Yes, I am confused like that, but me likey.

I just realised I have so much time on my hands now, you know what I mean?  I haven't jogged in weeks because I spent all my time at home with my little darling.  So it's about time I start getting back to my old regular routine, and writing here is also a form of relief for me.

Thanks for reading and all your well wishes!
