About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

September 2010 Faves & Quick NARS Tzarine LOTD!

    Hi,

it has been easy this month to pick my faves, cos I keep reaching for the same things quite often!

You might have seen or heard me using some of these products quite a lot this month, some I have reviewed and featured, so let's jump right into it!

Make up items:  ** click the links within to check out the respective haul/ rave entry **

    1. Lancome Teint Miracle (click here for my review and half-face experiment)  can truly say it is one of my fave foundations!
    2. NARS Blushes in Madly & Luster - both are very easy to wear, natural colors that gives you a nice pop of color on your cheeks, healthy flush! Luster has a gold sheen, compared to Madly which more shimmery. Both colors have been featured in almost all of my recent LOTDs... so check those out too.
    3. Chanel Extrait De Gloss in Genie - love everything about this gloss, non stickey, smells great, pretty color, cool name, and did I mention, it's Chanel? Worth every cent of the $44 price tag!
    4. Chanel Khaki Vert
    5. K-palette long lasting eyebrow marker 01 - I didn't think a marker pen would be able to define my brows, but this amazes me, each time I used it, it can define my cavewoman brows giving them a very natural and groomed look.  And it is very lasting  throughout the day without any fading.  The only downside, the tip of the marker can be a little clumped by foundation residue when you use it after some time... and so the tip can sometimes feel a little 'dry' and no ink comes out, you know, that kind of feeling?
    6. MAC Superslick liner in Signature Blue
    7. Clarins Instant Light Brush on Perfector 00 - perfect for brightening under my eyes, and to cover light spots

A closer look at some of the products mentioned above:

And for non-makeup items, we have the following:

    1. NIVEA Men's whitening facial foam -- confession:  I 'stunt-ed' this from the brother when I ran out of my cleanser and hasn't felt the need to purchase my own cleanser yet. It lathers well, smells clean and fresh, and it promises to lighten and even out your skin tone! Wow!  I need to look into men's skin care.... maybe it would be a lot less complicated, and more no-nonsense, straight to the point effective?
    2. Clarins Hydra Quench Cooling Cream-Gel -- I received this a while back during a Clarins event, and only used it recently when I needed an additional face cream, and I am really impressed by its texture.  Light but creamy, not oily, smells awesome.  Doesn't make my face oily at all when I wake up the next morning.  I use my Clarins face lifting serum, followed by this cream.
    3. Kiehl's Formula 133 - Read all about my rave here.
    4. Body Shop Olive Body shampoo - bought a load of these at the TBS sale, plus the matching shampoo. My fave scent and formulaton!

    And products mentioned up close:

I am running out of some stuff, and also need to replenish a couple of base items in my routine:

    1. a loose setting powder: right now, my MUFE super matte loose powder is almost all gone, and I still my huge tub of La Mer but I want choices!  So I am expecting a Laura Mercier one coming soon, I hope that would live up to its hype and work out for me.  Otherwise, it's back to the MUFE super matte.
    2. a foundation primer: I still have my chifure, I bought a bunch of rmk ones from some sale earlier this year? not sure if they are expired, but either way, i haven't checked, and I am itching to try out something new.....any recommendations?  Or else, I can always go back to my Sana pore putty, or the very first RMK creamy base.  Is there anything from Dior, or Shiseido/ Maquillage, or Shu Uemura that works wonders? Hmmm.....

Here is the LOTD with Tzarine eyeshadow duo, and Douceur blush, and on my lips, I am wearing TOPSHOP Pinch cream blush.

    * pardon the terribly messed tangled hair mess in this pic! *

That's all, and what are some products you are loving this month?  If you have any questions about the products mentioned here, do leave in the comments below!

    Thanks for looking!

Just curious, would you pefer La mer powder or MUFE? (: Which is better?

    9/26/10

@ michelle - hard to choose, I subconsciously use either one depending on which foundie I am using... but the la mer powder puff is super super pouffy and nice to pat on my face! Haha! I like both equally actually. My mufe is the light pink shade.. keeps my face very clean and fresh, while the la mer has this extra smoothing touch after i use it to set my foundation...i will def go back and get another shade even though they don't give any obvious color...

Im tinking of getting the mufe powder but the idea of carrying loose powder ard for touch up puts me off a teeny bit... But i am on the hunt for a really gd setting powder... And im ecxited to get my luster blush from michelle.. Was contemplating between luster n madly...

I've been using my Signature Blue too ever since I got it! Smiling Such a unique colour. Btw, I noticed you used the word 'stunned'. Your usage is right but actually the word is to be spelled 'stunt' because from what I remember when I was in contact with some young minahs/mats some time back, they use this word when they pull a stunt like 'steal' or something. hehe small matter, but I thought you might wanna know Eye-wink

    9/26/10

@ pearlicious -- yes, you are right, must be 'stunt' indeed, haha! shall edit now Smiling

@ amyrleex - so agree on the fuss free factor! Smiling

I have not used Madly for a while. Time to take it out & use. Smiling Love Tzarine & Douceur(I am tanned but it shows up on me like it does on you, think I am heavy handed) on you.

Soph: LOL @ the Nivea for men! I was also tempted to try out a men's facial wash sometime back but I was worried it would smell like cologne or something! I really like the clarins creme tho - I like how the skin feels after I apply Laughing out loud

    9/27/10

@ kas - it kinda smells like a cologne but not too strong -- wears off after the shower Smiling

My brother uses that cleanser too and I use it between periods where I run out of my cleanser or just randomly want to switch it up. Men skincare is not too bad really, heard their moisturizers are quite decent too. haha!
