About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Product Rave: La Mer La Poudre

    Hi!

I guess some of you have seen this coming. I will be raving about La Mer La Poudre in this entry.

I think this is something everyone should invest in.  As I mentioned in my haul entry, the cost of this product works out to the same as MUFE loose powder, or MUFE HD powder.  It is just that we can't imagine plonking $100+ on a powder... but I really lurve the effect this product gives... it makes my face really set, and flawless, without feeling heavy or looking like I have a ton of products, even though I used a rather full coverage cream foundation.

I have tried using the product using the silky powder puff that comes with the tub, and also using a Shu Uemura 17 brush.  Both works fine... because I think that the MUFE loose powder works better for me if I use the powder puff instead of a brush... and for the MUFE HD powder, I prefer to use a kabuki brush fo best results.

Even though this powder is translucent, it does help to even out further your skin tone (esp the 02 creme tone I got.  The 01 which is colorless is a little too shimmery) and making your face look really smooth.

I have been taking pictures each time I use the powder.  It may be premature to say this is my HG powder, after all, I have only gotten this less than 1 week.  I know the hefty price tag may be very off putting, but for me, I don't mind splurging on face products (foundations, powder etc) as they are the products that come in direct contact with your face, and you want to use good quality products to prevent side effects.  This may  be controversial, but I think the price tag is usually directly related to the quality - IMO.

Let's get on with the pictures, and I will continue raving along the way.  I have to say that the pictures aren't going to be any much different from my usual LOTDs...but in real life, really can tell the difference.  Trust me on this.  :)

The following is my fave LOTD lately, I sweep MAC Patina e/s all over the lids, and Satin Taupe or Style Snob on the crease.  I also tried using different foundations to go along, and the end results is the same... a very light, smooth, flawless finish.  Me likey.

And if you need to touch up, or have oily skin like me, just blot the T-zone and you are done!  I don't need to touch up further.  Well, normally, I don't anyway.. blotting away the shine is enough, cos patting on more powder can get too cakey.

That's all... and if you have any specific questions, leave them in the comments.

Heading out to watch Avatar again.... hehe.

P/S: Needless to say, nobody, especially not La Mer, paid me to rave about this product.  All opinions expressed here are entirely my own and honest.

    Thanks for reading!!

Wow the pictures do show how flawless and smooth everything looks. Like Chantana said, I can't imagine how it'll look in person if it's already obvious in photos. And the eyeshadow combination in the last photo is pretty!

Sara - the eyeshadow combo is MAC Knight Divine & Carbon, shown from the previous entry.
    Thanks!!

is the la mer loose powder better or the MUFE super mat loose powder better? effects similar?

    3/02/10

I feel that the La Mer powder provides slightly better coverage than MUFE? not sure how to explain it..almost 'thicker' in texture, compared to MUFE super matte...which is very 'light' and matte....I can't say which is better, because it depends on your preferences, both are great in their own ways. hope this helps?
