About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

One Item Haul (MAC Graphic Garden Collection)

Hi hi!!  This is the 4th post today.  So after my quick look of the day, I headed out to Vivocity with my sister, and we had lunch there, and I just went to check out MAC, and I saw in a tiny corner the Garden Graphic collection which is the Nordstroms Anniversary Collection, but I am surprised to see that it is even launched in Singapore before the US release dates.  This retails for S$65 but considering that you get 6 pretty eyeshadow colours and the beautiful packaging, it is pretty good value. If you know about the MAC holiday palettes, this is the exact same size. I got the Fresh Cut Palette which consists of pretty neutrals, corals and pinks.

According to the collection information at Temptalia,

    Eye Shadow 6 Palette

A black metal compact with a black and white plaque featuring the repeat signature MAC logo that morphs (holographic) into a black and white floral pattern when viewed from different angles.

    Fresh Cut Palette

    • Floral Inc. (Frost)
    • Sun-Shy (Lustre)
    • Fresh Cut (Veluxe Pearl)
    • Poppy Noir (Velvet)
    • Bloomcycle (Veluxe Pearl)
    • Part Peony (Lustre)
    • 213SE Brush

In other shopping related news:  Since there was a sale going on, I bought a little MANGO cardigan for $29 (I am not a big fan of MANGO honestly, because the clothes are a little too 'typical' for my taste), and a pair of Charles and Keith black & white pumps for $30.  Woot to sales.

oh the palette looks great! do you know if the look books in this collection was for sale at mac in s'pore too? i was thinking about getting those.

    6/23/09

I didn't see the lookbooks on sale, the only items on display were the 2 palettes, 2 lip bundles+pouches, 3 brush pouches.

Whoa the holographic effect is kind of awesome. I didn't know it was holographic as I haven't looked at this collection much. I'm eyeing their brush sets but at the same time I want to save for Color Craft. haha.

    6/23/09

the brush sets are the regular sets in terms of the combination... and they are black handled, so unless you really like the pouch, they aren't spectacular or 'new'.

I saw the Color Craft stuff featured in Style mag (Jul issue) and I am really liking Daft Pink & one of the mineralised eyeshadows! Smiling

Ooh, this is really cute! I'm not a super-fan of the bubble-gum hot pink shadow, mainly because I'd never wear it, but the colors actually seem to go really well together. And the holographic stuff just brings out my inner eight-year-old! Sticking out tongue
