About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

Nails Story: OPI's Funkey Dunkey, Or Why Can't My Camera See Purple?

Today I tried out OPI's Funkey Dunkey from the OPI Shrek Forever After Collection.  It is a true purple, a little on the warm side, not a cool blue purple.  But no matter how, my camera refuses to capture the warm tones of this lovely creamy purple!  It is turning out like a cool toned blue-ish purple.  The overlay stroke effects I used in the above pictures (ie, the outline color I used for the words) is a much much truer reflection of the actual colour.  I think this also happens when I take pictures of my MUFE 92 eyeshadow.  BAH!!   And Kim also voiced the same frustrations in taking pictures of purple nail polish.

(CLICK HERE to see her swatches of the entire Shrek Collection)

So I went to Scrangie and grabbed her swatch of Funky Dunkey to see if the true color is captured.  Here it is.

I think it is the same, the picture makes the actual color in the bottle look bluer! Which it is not in real life.  Or is there something wrong with my eyes.  :(

Oh well.  This is a beautiful purple!  After taking these pictures, I have a sudden craving to apply China Glaze's Four Leaf Clover instead.  Haha... and my nails are getting a little long, I might chop them off soon later this week.  :p

I know there are a couple of entries (such as the giveaway results etc) to be posted, but I am a little lazy and way too busy with work right now to fiddle with the logistics.  Winners for  both giveaways will only be announced on Wed or later on in the week.

Random Shrek Cup which you can purchase from the popcorn combo at Golden Village theatres.

That's all, and thanks for reading.

I know how frustrating it is! I give up trying to capture purple shades using any camera. Be it my digi cam or my phone. Purple things always turn out looking blue.

yeah i also think that purple is hard to capture on camera. i had trouble with essie's sexy divide too. looked more blue than purple.

Kim - Yea!! I saw your entry too, and it is the same problem... argh!!

omg, i feel you. i did a purple pastel comparision yesterday, wanting to post but oh god, the picture came to be so accurate that i deleted it. Will try again when i return from my trip. Funkey dunkey is a nice color Smiling but i ordered China Glaze's grape pop and it seems similar so i didn't get it.

That's such a pretty color! I'm tempted to get the shades from the Shrek collection but nows not a good time bank-wise. Maybe I'll get them at a later date or something. haha.
But I totally get what you mean about camera not picking up shades, it's the same for certain shades of purples for me too.

Cool nail polish colour and ur nails sparkles! hahax.. Sadded for not being able to capture the true purple though =\
actually the Blue/Purple issues are well known in digital imaging. It was said that most cameras even pro ones cant capture the true purple well and they usually edit it in photoshop. Something to do with the light source, camera profile and white balance. Try taking any purple fabrics, it will also turn to blue..
