FAQ & DISCLAIMER

About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

NEW Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF35 PA+++

    Hi hi,

Bobbi Brown releases its own BB Cream with SPF35 for customers who want a product with serious skincare and makeup benefits.   This all in one cream perfects and smoothes skin's appearance instantly and over time.  The BB cream comes in three natural looking skin tone correct shades.  It is lightweight and easily buildable, evens out and gives skin a lit-from-within glow.  Skin is filled with moisture as oil and shine are kept at bay.    It even promises to make fine lines and wrinkles appear less noticeable, visibile redness is reduced and pores appear more refined.

Personally, I have hardly ventured into the realm of BB creams, only hearing about how they work wonders and now that almost every skincare and makeup company has come up with their own BB creams, it seems hard not to try some of them out.  I have used the Legerie (fronted by Kelvin 'lao shi') a long time back, I have the Clinique one which I gave to my mom (who is a HUGE fan of it) and now I shall give this Bobbi Brown one a go.  I am concerned about whether the shade suits me, and also it is able to give me the coverage I need in my base, since I don't think I will be using a foundation on top of the BB cream.

    Here are some swatches:

Mine is in the shade LIGHT which is the middle shade (the others being Extra Light, and Fair)

As you can see, this shade blends perfectly into the back of my hand.  I am thinking the slight yellowish tone also reduces the pink/ red undertones on my hand.

And I wore it this morning, with only suncreen underneath.  This picture was taken after three hours of wear - I ran several errands this morning, sun was blazing, so I needed all the sun protection I could get.

I still had to conceal my spots, but other than that, complexion is even-ed out, and I set the face with a loose setting powder.

Lips and eyes are bare, while I dusted Giorgio Armani blusher on my cheeks.

So far, I quite like how it makes me look fresh, without having to use too many products, great when you need to rush out of the house, or go somewhere nearby.  I am still not quite sure if I should use this only on its own if I were to be out and about the whole day.

What's your stand on BB creams?

Hope this is helpful, and thanks for looking!

I've tried quite a few brands of bb creams n my complexion really exudes a certain kind of glow tt I do not get when I use foundations. The newer range of bb creams fr western brands seem to have better colour selection as compared to the ashy grey cast of bb creams that were introduced earlier.

I love BB cream, I used few brands and only 2 have made the most likings for me since I have acne prone. The Bobbi Brown shade looks better in my opinion. Korean ones tend to looked more light beige to me... and since I have yellow base skin tone it does not match well. Even though they stated it will match for sometime but not exactly unless you have very oily skin that oxidize much. I find them works for me as in less redness, covers pretty well without too much of concealer and they usually are true to their products. My skin seems less breakouts and smooth, that's why I use BB cream as foundation. =)

OoOhhhh...i actually love bb creams. Been trying quite a few but all from the korean brands. My fav is from lioele & toc toc. hehe! However , as we all know they only come in 1 shade & its pretty light for me & sometimes it look kinda ashy. But this bobbi brown bb looks awesome on you man!!! good coverage n u sure glow with it! Yay! and looks like it has yellow undertones to it! Awesome! Will definitely check them out. thanks 4 the review love! =))

ooh that bb cream looks so good on you! so far i've used the maybelline one (love!) and the bioessence (yucks yucks).. i prefer using the bb cream when i don't need so much coverage, but when i've got super bad spots then the foundation comes out!

The coverage of this BB Cream looks promising. Would you rank it at about the same coverage as Teint Miracle or lesser? Because it seems that BB Creams that big cosmetic firms come out with (e.g. Lancome) tend to work out to be a Base more then an actual foundation, though I guess it depends on your needs. Your skin still looks fresh in that photo!

The bbcream look quite moisturizing. And "Light" still look abit that "yellow" on the back of your hand... but it blend/melt into your skintone quite well.

im also new to BB Creams, but Ive been told they are good for a quick everyday quick and very natural fix, I was recommended the Too Faced brand and went I went to Sephore they also showed me the Tare one… now I m not sure… Of the ones that you have tried which is your fav so far ? I would still wear my moisturiser and of course my 50 SPF Sunscreen under it..
