About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Look of the day: Natural & MUFE HD foundation

Bare face, well, I did put on moisturiser and concealer.

With the HD foundation and powder.  Well, I think so, I can't remember which stage of my make up this is, I took these batch of pics over the weekend.  Honestly, I think the liquid foundation is a tad too dark for my skin tone.  I would have prefer it lighter.  It isn't very obvious here, but I will update in another post.

I am also all about the cheeks now.  I realise you can also apply cheek colours like eye shadow, you need the 'crease'/shadow/contour, the 'lid' colour which you put on the apple of your cheeks, and also the highlighting colour.  And I can do all these with  my fave 168 brush.

On my eyes, I used Stila's Kitten on the browbone, and Tempting + Ricepaper on the lids.  Engraved eyeliner, and some cheap lashes from a China brand, well the quality of these lashes arent that good, look at how wonky and crooked it is, and there's a slight gap in the middle.

Somehow I did not take a whole face picture.  Sorry!

    Another post coming up!

I agree about the foundation - it does look just slightly darker than usual. Also maybe more yellow? It's almost like you've been tanning. I like the eyeshadows a lot - Tempting + Ricepaper is a fabulous combination! That one lash does look pretty funky - it's like it's making that Klingon sign Sticking out tongue But the other side looks perfectly nice.

ok i have been staring and staring at your face for the last 5 minutes trying to figure out what it is about the foundation. I think it doesnt complement your undertones. I see a pinkish undertone but i dont kno if thats the foundation causing it or if its your natural undertone coming through.

The lash does't last me more than 3 times of usage (my usual natural one lasts at least a week! Definitely not going back to it. But they come in a set of 10 pairs, so I still have 9 left to use. Bleah.

About the foundation, I am still deciding what to do - I could either go back to the MUFE store, and get them to suggest some stuff, or I can fall back on the concealer mixing idea. Sticking out tongue
