About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog 5 years ago to share my love for makeup, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly, and about 1.5 million as of Nov 2011.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

LOTD: Neutral Colors Feat. NARS Madly Blush

    Hi hi,

Similar LOTD to yesterday's reverse smokey eyes.  But different cheeks and lips combo.

If you haven't seen the nails in this picture, click HERE to find out more.

    Products used:

Foundation - Sana Pore Putty Base, Maquillage Long Lasting Stick Foundation, MUFE Concealer Palette, MUFE Super Matte Loose Powder

Cheeks - NARS Madly and Nico blushes

I find Madly to be a very natural light tan color, which I can just slap on without worrying about being too crazy colored.  This is very different from the other NARS colors I own.  It is neither pink nor peach/corals.. and gives you a healthy sun-kissed glow (at least I think so.  Haha).

Eyes - NARS eyeshadow primer, MUFE Aqua Cream #14, MAC Love to Love MES (I used the darkest shade all over lids, and lightest on the browbone)

Liner and Lashes - MUFE #19 Aqua Eyes pencil, set with MAC Style Influencer MES (used the darkest blue in that to set), Maybelline Volume Express, Palz False Lashes

Lips - MAC Angel lipstick (frost)

Heading out to IKEA with the sibs for random look-see and dinner soon!

And if you haven't take part in the 600 followers huge giveaway, click the link in the sidebar!  :)

    Thanks for looking!

Hi babe Smiling You take very good-looking pics. They are so clear and the quality is nice. May I know what camera you are using, or have you mentioned it before? I am starting on my blog Onsugar. You are truly an inspiration.

    pretty!!

@Beautyarbox - thanks for pointing out the camera model! Smiling

@Pearlcious - Yup, it is a Canon G-11, it is pretty awesome, but I am only starting to explore its potential! LOL... and I also used a little 'curves' effects in PS to make the picture quality even better...like the 'contrast and brightness' but don't think it's very obvious (which it isn't meant to be noticed!) LOL And try to experiment with different times of the day for lighting and all.. I prefer clear natural daylight to take pics... but that's not always possible, so I depend on the camera settings to achieve similar effect. Do share your blog link with us once it's up and going!

Madly looks great on you! It doesn't show up as much on my skintone, just enough for a light flush but I like how the shimmer isn't scary on the skin. Looking at it in the pan it's like so glittery. haha.

i wish i have your skin tone because you seem to be able to pull off almost any lip and cheek colour. *jealous*

babe, your skin looks good. And Madly looks divine on u. I habe recently gotten Gilda and its really pretty too. Can I ask how u apply the Stick foundation? I bought Shu Uemura Nobura stick foundaion but no idea how to use it. Do u apply with a foundation brush or fingers? Thanks

    7/19/10

@hwimein - I usually glide the stick directly onto my face, like draw big circles on my forehead, cheeks.... and then I use a brush to blend and buff it. I tried with fingers too, but I find that brush distributes the product and blend more smoothly. Fingers are more ok for liquid foundation.
I did an entry on how to apply this stick foundation here:

hope you find it helpful! Smiling

Hi, I simply love your lotds...how you play with the eye colors as well as the nude and bold lip colors!!
I'm inspired now to try out a dark smokey with black. Can you kindly recommend and advise me which black eye shadows to get? I'm looking for dark deep black with good pigmentation and one with a metallic sheen if it ever exist??

    8/04/10

@Lieslee - Thank you for commenting! Smiling

I think that Shu Uemura has a good range of eyeshadows, especially black metallic ones, and i-nuovi as well.
MAC's Carbon is a good deep black, but it is matte.
If you have existing dark eyeshadows, you might want to consider using a black cream base to darken the eyeshadow color and intensity, that might make for a nice smokey eye look too.

    Hope this helps! Smiling
