About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

LOTD & Mini Review: RachelK's Mineral Cosmetics

Hi yesterday, I was out most of the day, and decided to test drive the Rachel K Mineral Cosmetics, which you can see more pictures of HERE. I had worn the BB cream and pressed powder earlier that same day (in the morning) and was quite impressed with the flawless finish the products gave me.

I took pictures throughout the day, so you can see how the base lasted (though I have to admit the lighting conditions etc were not always ideal) but I shall try to describe as best as I can.

All products used will be listed at the end of the entry.

    Application:

I had on my skincare and sunscreen prior to application of the Color Control Balm, using my fingers.  I probably squeezed out 1.5cm of the product, and spread it all over my face as I would a face cream.  You might want to apply and blend quickly, as the balm is quickly absorbed into the skin.  I think this is best applied using your fingers, as the warmth will help the product spread and blend into your skin easily.

    Finish and Setting:

The finish is quite smooth and made my skin look much fairer (a little stark even for my relatively fair skintone).  I don't feel like I need a foundation over it, for one thing, I didn't want anything heavy, and I don't think I need any foundation/ more coverage after the CC cream.

It did not cover my spots completely, which makes me think that if you have great even skin already, you don't even need a concealer after.

I used a fluffy brush to dust on the BB pressed powder to set, because I felt like the sponge cannot spread the powder evenly over my face.  I would use the sponge for area touch ups.  The brush distributed the powder thinly and evenly all over my face.  The slightly darker shade of the powder also help took away the starkness of the CC cream.

When this is done, my face is all set.  I am super impressed by the fact that even though I did not use my usual primers, the base is smooth, my pores are 90% covered, meaning if you stand quite near in front of me, you might not notice the pores on my face.  Even I myself am very amazed.  And I think the pictures can show the results of the finish.  Especially the first two pictures.

Oil Control: I have to blot my T-zone after every 3 hours [I have oily T-zone].  Which I don't really mind.  And because I like the powder so much, after I blot, I will just lightly pat my T-zone with the pressed powder to freshen up.

Lasting Power: I think the CC cream lasts decent thoughout the day (6 -8 hours, not hardcore 10-14 hours type), considering the fact that it is not a foundation, and I am used to wearing foundation.  This is something which I definitely will see myself wearing anytime.  This morning, I wore it again, when I had to leave the house quite quickly, because, I didn't have to add extra layers of primer, etc for foundation.

The Mineral Lip Plumpers: The minty sensation is awesome! I feel my lips being super smooth, and it lasts quite a couple of hours. Too bad they aren't for sale.

Overall, I think the Rachel K Mineral Cosmetics is worth checking out, and moreover, if you spend $70 and above, you get the mineral lip plumper, which is beautiful!

    All products used:

Face: Rachel K CC Cream, BB Pressed Powder (medium)

    Cheeks: MAC Happy Together

Eyes: NARS Primer, Bobbi Brown After Hours, NARS Blondie, NARS Abyssinia

Liner and Lashes: Heavy Rotation Liquid, MAC Blackline, Ardel 120, Clinique Lower Lash Mascara

Lips: Rachel K Mineral Lip Plumper in Lolita

That's all, and hope you find this entry helpful!

Rachel K is really a beauty but I wonder why the pics of her that were featured alongside her products in Watsons look so amateurish. What a pity.

Wow.. your skin looks really flawless for this post, i cnt wait to try it. Just wondering, you have relatively FAIR complexion, shoudn't the shade you get for the CC pressed powder be in FAIR shade instead of MEDIUM ?
Or does both shades blend in well for you as well, or it just depends if you want a more natural or fairer look together with the CC creme usage ? Smiling One last question, have you tried just using the CC pressed poweder on it's own ? Hope to hear your great reviews again .... Smiling
