About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

June Faves: Not Really, but I Shall Rave Anyway

I realise it is getting increasingly hard to do a monthly fave entry.  For one thing, I have been trying  my best to rotate my stash, so that I can enjoy all the new stuff which I got recently.  I love all my Illamasqua blushes, they last on me the whole day, the colors are lovely, and they blend so well! Super pigmented products which you just need to use a tiny amount for a nice touch color on your cheeks. Secondly, June being a school holiday  month for me, there were days which I went without makeup at all, and even if so, it's just foundation, brows and maybe some concealer.  I also went to HK near the start of the month and got a bunch of new makeup from NARS and when I came back there was another bunch of nail polish, and Illamasqua stuff to play with.  Which I am not complaining.  I enjoy purchasing all my makeup, and using them.

I rambled about several items which I have been liking lately, click HERE if you miss that entry.   Besides that, I must say I am really using most of my NARS stuff this month.  From the blush, to eyeshadows and my cleansing routine.  I like NARS Laguna for natural contouring of my cheeks, any of the blushes which I have, and also the Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.

In the last couple of days, I tried out a new foundation routine using existing products.  I paired my NARS Sheer Glow with MUFE Super Matte Loose Powder. And the loose powder is the perfect finishing touch to the Sheer Glow.  It makes my foundation lasts the WHOLE (humid) day, keeps it fresh and matte (esp after blotting), and just makes me like the Sheer Glow better -- I like it, but felt that it isn't  that spectacular as everyone raved about.  With the MUFE loose powder, it kind of 'transform' Sheer Glow into the product I wanted it to be---- not as heavy as Estee Lauder Double Wear, but still gives great long lasting coverage.

    New Fave Foundation Routine!

And just a random LOTD which I did for the fun of it, featuring most of the products shown in this entry:

On my lips: MUFE 18C pencil, and YSL RV No30 Peach Faubourg, Cheeks NARS Mounia

That's all, hope you enjoyed this mid-week entry.  I am looking forward to some shopping tomorrow (in particular, perfume!!) and who knows what else!  Haha!  Also loooking forward to the OCC lip tar shipment, and a few other stuff!  Woots!

Thanks for looking, and share your faves too!

you got me googling for the MUFE loose powder Sticking out tongue just wondering, the mufe powder works better with nars sheer glow as compared to your la mer loose powder?

Mixing and matching stuff does bring out great combos! Sheer glow makes the skin look so dewy but at the same time I'm reasoning not getting it since right now I don't need another foundation that functions like it. Looking for a longer wearing one.

@ kim -- yea, I somehow think MUFE sets the sheer glow best.... La Mer is better for EL and most other foundations. I kind of compared prices of loose powders across different brands lately, and while some brands have their loose powders in 20g or 22g (Estee Lauder, Fancl), others only 10g (MUFE, Chanel) and the prices are not necessarily proportionate!
