About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

Haul: Skincare Goodies [Clarins & Vichy]

I recently purchased some skincare products,  and shall share them here, to give my first impressions and so on.

This week, Clarins at Robinsons had a 20% off [with additional for cardmembers or watever, can't remember]  but really great deal, they have this 20% off pretty regularly, so it's always time for me to stock up on my staples and also try out new products.

Have heard pretty good stuff about the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm and my fave YT guru, Lisa Eldridge says it's her fave primer, and she also demonstrated how to use it in THIS VIDEO.

I have only used it once, so I can't tell for sure how amazing it really is.

    Retail price: SD$70

The next one is a eye-cream for night use.  I am using the EA prevage eyes which contains SPF, so I am not using that for night.  It is a rich creamy texture, and a little goes a long way.

Can't remember the retail price, could be about S$80 or $90.

Next, are a couple of Vichy products which I am currently loving.   I purchased these at Unity pharmacy because they had a 20% off promotion going on too.  I had a hard time resisting getting the entire range of the NormaDerm range [my skin has been cranking up lately]  in the end I settled for the

Total Pore Resurfacing Essence [UP  S$49.90]

Anti-Imperfection Deep Cleansing Cream [UP S$19.90 or $15.90]

I am loving both products, because the cleanser really foams up well, and cleanses perfectly my face, making it very smooth.  It also contains Salicylic acid which is good for bumps and zits.

The total pore resurfacing essence is light, and has a double effect: pore micro-peel and pore refining.

Here is how the pore resurfacing essence looks like:

I feel like it does refine my pores,  because this week, I haven't bothered with wearing a primer under my foundation, but my pores aren't that visible.  And I am not using any other pore-refining serum because I am using this daily -- so it must be due to this product.

    Thanks for looking!

The Beauty Flash Balm is the next primer I would like to try.
Can't wait for your thoughts =)

@ Joey - I used it twice since, the first time not much WOW factor, but today I used it again, much better. I think because I used less, and let it 'dry' longer before I continue with my makeup. So I noticed a tightening/ firming of the skin, very smoothing effect.

I am very attracted to the phrase "firmer looking features".

The pore-resurfacer bears some resemblance to the ProMat, but we definitely don't have the cream cleanser over here! I'm a little jealous. Glad they're working out for you, too, because I'm loving them!
