About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Haul! NARS Eyeshadow & Blushes (Madly, Torrid & Taos)

    Hi hi,

Just a quick haul entry, and quick swatch of my latest NARS haulage.  These were ordered during the NARS 18% off at their US website, and Michelle (icefrost) opened a spree for NARS.  So even though I hauled from my recent HK trip, I decided to take advantage of the discount, and lower selling US prices to purchase more stuff, well, actually, just 4 more items.   :)

I got 3 blushes, and I think I subconsciously stayed away from the pinks and reds and stuck to the peachy colors....All three blushes have subtle shimmer which are in the same shade as the color itself, and oh my gosh, soooooooo pretty!!!  NARS blushes always make me very excited!!

It was a little hard to capture the true color of Madly as it was getting real dark when I took these pictures, so I took 2 pictures and the real color is somewhere in between.

And one eyeshadow duo!  I have swatched Cordora before and find it to be too glittery/ shimmery for  my liking, and so I picked Indian Song, which has a beautiful metallic brown shade, and a matte pale yellow shade which is perfect for blending and highlight.

    And all the swatches:

And my current stash of NARS blushes:

Top row L to R (Albatross, Nico, Madly, Penny Lane)

Middle row L to R (Torrid, Gilda, Sin, Orgasm)

Bottom row L to R (Mata Hari, Taos, Mounia)

All the 'medium' NARS items (the blushers and eyeshadow duos) are stored in this neat container -- and yes, I have to flip through everything in order to find the color... but I kind of make mental notes as to at which end I have arranged the items... so I kinda have a rough idea in my mind.

Any more NARS on my wish list??  Maybe a couple of cream duo eyeshadows, and a couple more powder blush.  LOL.

That's all, and thanks for looking!

Im drooling! Do you think the madly blush is a must from nars? (:

    7/13/10

@ michelle --- it is hard to say if it is a must have at this point in time, but I am thinking that if you apply some light bronzer/ contour for your cheeks, and Madly would be the perfect, nice natural glowy cheek color indeed....Must try it out soon!

Torrid and Taos look lovely! (: Madly wouldn't be a colour I consider... Is it more of a highlighter than a blush?

    7/13/10

@ Charlene --- would def use it as a blusher, it is a seashell pink, according to the nars website... I guess for a natural flushed look. nothing too obvious on the cheeks. shall try it out in a LOTD soon Smiling

Wow at all your NARS blushes! I love almost all the blushes that you own!

icefrost: I have Madly and I personally love it. It's quite a neutral shade that some use it for contouring but it does have some red tones on my skin so I use it as a blush and can't imagine using it for contouring. It's quite a subtle color though.

Hi babe, ur blog is da bomb!
By the way, if I were to pick an eyeshadow to create a smokey eye, would you totally recommend China Blue or should I get one of those blacker shadows like Night Breed and all? Thanks ya. I trust your taste Laughing out loud

    7/13/10

@ pearlicious - hi hi! thanks for your lovely comment! Smiling
I totally recommend China Blue, it makes for a sexier and interesting smokey eye rather than a black one. You can even make China Blue almost blue/ very very dark if you use a black base underneath..so I think you have more options there. Smiling

@chantana - oh girl, have you succumb to Nars yet? about time! Sticking out tongue

@raggie92 - hehe.. glad that they are drool-worthy! took me a worth to accumulate these items. Smiling
