About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

Twitter (link button above!)  Email (stated above!)  Instagram (makeup_blogette)

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Final Disclaimer

I bought/ paid for all of the products mentioned in this blog. I am not affliated to any company. If certain products are sent to me for review purposes, I will say so and express my honest opinions about them. In any case, I will only review and showcase the products which I have personally tried and tested, and enjoy using. I do not get paid to review anything.

Haul: MAC Give Me Liberty of London!

What I bought, and I won't go into the details of how the colors are like, since you can always check out Temptalia for all the collection information, reviews and swatches.  I didn't take close up pictures etc, somehow this morning my hands arent very cooperative and everything was shaking and blurring all over the place.

From the spree that Michelle organised, I got a modest 2 items, since I wanted to check out the rest in person.

    1. Shell Pearl Beauty Powder  (This product is the best and most practical to collect, if you are into it)

    2. English Accents Lipglass

And since the collection also launched on the same day (so much for all the April dates we have been hearing about...)  I got a few more items.

    1. Blooming Lovely lipstick
    2. Give Me Liberty of London eyeshadow
    3. Indian Ink nail lacquer (since vpost don't ship nail lacquers)

I also checked out the bags, and while they were all pretty and stuff, they are kind of pricey at $40+ and $50+, and the quality isn't all that fantastic.. so it was easy to give them a pass.

Yup.... I think I have been a bad girl.  ANOTHER lipstick???

The peachy lipsticks in this collection is also appealing to me, but well, I think Peachstock swatched rather dry on my hands, so again, they were easy to pass on.

That's about all I got from this collection.

P/S what a coincidence that Dirty Plum is released in both Riveting and GMLOL collections... I checked it out, and both are satiny in finish, which is so strange cos the Dirty Plum I got at the Pro store is a matte texture---which is actually nicer.

    Thanks for reading!

Also met Chantana & Kas at the meet up to get our stuff, and thanks to Diana for twittering about it, and Sarah for texting and BB me about it, and then when I got to Tangs, I took a covert picture of the collection and tagged Sara in that picture in my FB, and also BB the picture over to Sarah.  LOL.  That whole chain of communication and passing the message was so funny, and got me into a little frenzy.  :p

How does the Blooming Lovely lipstick look like when worn? (:

the nail lacquer is lovely, i have it on now (will updated with LOTD and nails entry)

I havent tried the lip products
but i swatch Blooming Lovely at the counter, and it is the same color along the lines of Fashion Mews (from HK), and Lavender Whip (creamsheen)

I was swatching the e/s at the counter "Give Me Liberty of London" didn't come out nicely on me. It was very pale.. but it does make a good highlight shade (Hmm... now when I think about it.. should I go back for it? Hai~)

And Dirty Plum was OMY intense!

Lol, our little information spreading was fun. After Sarah twitpic-ed the photo you sent her, I replied her on twitter etc etc. haha

Love your haul! I'm thinking if I should pick up the beauty powders just because of the packaging though the color is pretty it's like a couple zillion other things I have? I don't know I'll decide when I swatch it in person. Ooh the nail lacquer too, can't wait to see your post on it! I'm eyeing that one too.

how does shell pearl looks on you? I like how the bp comes with a mirror now! but i already have summer rose which i loved. am thinking abt shell pearl but it looks really light.

I know I'm not Sophia, but ummm I guess here's what I think about Shell Pearl. It doesn't show up on my skin tone at all (NC30), in terms of color that is. It does have a gorgeous sheen so if you're looking for a highlighter or something to layer over blush it'll be good.

hey sara! thanks for the info! Hmm, i guess i will skip then, cos i wld much prefer more color.

    3/29/10

Joyce - like wat Sara said.. i prolly won't use this alone for a blush, unless I just want a light sheen/ glow of something on my cheeks.. or just dust this all over my face. Oh come on, who am I kidding, I am also super drawn to the cute compact. But seriously, I have been using it since I got it, with a kabuki brush, and swirl it over my cheeks area. Subtle glow. I like.
